Israel breaks ranks on Kosovo

Israel will not be recognising Kosovo’s independence in the next few weeks, out of concern for the implications that recognition might have both on negotiations with the Palestinians and relations with Russia.

Israel’s main Western allies — the United States, Britain, France and Germany — all rushed to accept Kosovo’s independence following the announcement by the Kosovar government on Sunday. But Israel is being reticent, despite Foreign Ministry officials and politicians privately voicing a general sympathy towards the Kosovar cause.

One of the main reasons is that Israel is anxious not to encourage a precedent whereby the populations of disputed regions act unilaterally in such a fashion.

On Wednesday, Yasser Abed Rabbo, senior adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told Reuters that if the current negotiations “wouldn’t proceed towards ending settlement-building and a serious and continuing negotiation, we will have to take the step and declare independence unilaterally”. ... An additional concern is the welfare of the Russian community. Despite still high levels of antisemitism, Israeli diplomats and local leaders have praised Mr Putin for fighting antisemitism.

Dmitry Medvedev, Mr Putin’s handpicked successor expected to win elections next month, is also thought to be close to the community, and visited the headquarters of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Moscow three days before announcing his candidacy.

Some of nationalist parties are claiming that Mr Medvedev is Jewish and disloyal to the Russian people. “This is the worst possible time to draw attention with a new dispute,” said a senior figure in the community in Moscow, “both for Israel and for Russian Jews.”

"If US can ally itself with Islamic bastards over oil, than why Serbia nad Israel cant do the same with Russia in order to save their countries?"

Absolutely correct. The US has abandoned allies, encouraged uprisings such as the Shiites in the South of Iraq against Saddam and then let them be slaughtered, sent money and arms to the Palestinians - some of which are then used against the Israelis; and then we wonder why natural allies turn against us.

Understandable and logical on the part of Israel.

America has a strange foreign policy. Instead of rewarding its allies & punishing its enemies, it does the reverse.

The terrorist Albanians/KLA (the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army) living in Kosovo/Serbia have ethnically cleansed 90% of this Serbian province. For the first time in centuries, Kosovo is Jew-free. The last Jew was expelled in 2001. Israel will eventually follow suit and recognize this “state,” thus bringing to an end its relationship with Serbia — Israel’s staunchest ally in the region. Sad.

A Serb friend of mine came here as a refugee from communist Yugoslavia. During the period of the 1967 6 Day War, he was working in a factory that manufactured weapons, mostly light artillery, much of it for export to Arab countries.

The Tito regime and the communist plant managers practically went into mourning as the disaster in the Sinai unfolded and became undeniable even for communist media. Propaganda had to shift from predicting the imminent demise of Israel to decrying the “dreadful massacre of our heroic Egyptian allies.”

The workers had to go along but, as my friend says, “We were laughing our arses off behind their backs.”

Canada's Scott Taylor of Esprit de Corps has traveled extensively over there and covered the Balkans for the past 15 years. Not only is the unemployment rampant (in addition to corruption and crime), he says voluntary payment for services (utilities and such) is non-existant, as is garbage collection.

Canada has not (yet?) recognized this stillborn "state" created on Serbia's sovereign territory, and 90% of newspaper op-eds are vehemently opposed to the Islamofascist-run "independent state" of Kosovo.

I’m ambivalent about Golda Mier and her prowess which always gets such a nod.

She was caught off guard at the start of Yom Kippur when she shouldn’t have been.

She gets a cult following for looking like grandma.

Not that she wasn’t important.....maybe just overrated.

I have Israeli friends who fought in Yom Kippur who first told me this back in 1980 or so.

Will take your word for it because I didnt pay that much attention to it years ago. But even if she was just a figurehead, she probably would be a better leader than the weak and gutless Olmert. They need a coup.

Even though the intervention was designed to get the Juanita Broderick story out of the news cycle, the policy of U.S. interference in the former Yugoslavia had been set as far back as Bush I. The Clinton Crime Family could keep Kosovo as a "hole card" to bring out whenever there was a serious "bimbo eruption" or revelation of some other scrape of their corruption. Good liberals always have one crisis or another they can pull out of the hat, since they feed on manufactured crises.
