Aren’t the Uyghur folk Muzzies? This should be epic. I doubt they’ll go as peacefully as the Buddhists of Tibet. I’m not sure who to root for, though.

I forget if they were Muslim when the Mongols rode over them. They may have been,in toto or, in part. The Keraits, who Chinnghis, then Temujin, also conquered at about the same time, were Nestorian Christians.Whatever they were, the Mongols would have let them worship in their own way.
The tibetans have been autonomous more frequently in the past that the Uyghurs have. And the Uyghurs have been treated worse for longer. So apparently the drive to be free is stronger in the buddists than the muslims.
