Let Lauren Live!

LAUREN RICHARDSON - YOU CAN HELP!
By Judie Brown

It has been a source of ongoing sadness to read of the difficulties Lauren Richardson’s father has had over the course of the past several months. For those of you who are not familiar with her case, Lauren overdosed on heroin on August 28, 2006. She suffered oxygen deprivation and, as a result of the overdose, is now in a coma and unable to speak out for herself. At the time of the overdose, Lauren was expecting a baby. Her parents honored what they knew would have been her wish and did all they could to keep her healthy and comfortable until the child was born. Today, though Lauren may not be aware of it, she is the mother of Ember Grace, who was born in February 2007.

Since the birth of her daughter, Lauren remains unable to speak of her concerns, but she has a loving father who is doing all he can to protect her from suffering the same fate as Terri Schiavo. However, Lauren’s mother, who has been named her legal guardian, is sadly not of the same opinion and is working with attorneys to pressure the courts to permit Lauren’s starvation.

Lauren’s father has kept hope alive, even at times when there appeared to be no hope in human terms. Lauren’s father is a man of hope in Christ and is dedicated to spending every breath he has on defending Lauren, regardless of what it might cost him in physical exhaustion and worldly goods. The most recent update for those concerned about Lauren tells us the following:

We struggle at times as we seek to share with the public the details of what is happening with Lauren because of the disagreement we have with Lauren’s mother. We cannot understand her reasoning in refusing a path of hope, healing and restoration for Lauren and insisting on causing her death by withholding food and water from her. The issue in Lauren’s case is the eternal truth that all people, no matter what their medical condition, bear the image of God and deserve basic care and an opportunity to be restored to health.

Bobby Schindler, Terri Schiavo’s brother, has written about Lauren in an editorial earlier this year, "False Compassion," and is working closely with Lauren’s father in order to provide expertise that he is uniquely qualified to share during a trying time like this.

There are many links on the Life for Lauren web site that will assist you in tracking this case and learning who is supporting Lauren’s ongoing care and who is opposing it. More importantly, there is something you can do to express your concerns.

ACTION NEEDED NOW

The governor of Delaware, Ruth Ann Minner, is being asked by pro-life Americans across this nation to intervene in this case in order to save Lauren from what many fear is an imminent court order dictating that Lauren be starved and dehydrated to death. I am asking you to be one of those who communicates your passionate belief that Lauren’s life is sacred and deserves to be protected from those who would order her death. The governor’s e-mail address is governor.minner@state.de.us.

Further, it would mean a great deal to Lauren’s father, Randy, if you sent him a copy of your e-mail to Governor Ruth Ann Minner. Randy’s e-mail address is Lifeforlauren@aol.com

During a recent visit to Anchorage, Alaska where Bobby Schindler was invited to speak, he told a reporter from The Catholic Anchor, "Once we accept that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering, we lose any type of parameters. Euthanasia is a form of abandonment. It is not compassion."

Truer words were never spoken. As I frequently tell people who argue that we pro-lifers are being heartless and cruel for fighting to defend the rights of a "hopeless case," "God is the author of every human being’s life, and He has never given permission to a single one of us to arbitrarily rob another human being of life for any reason including disability or illness."

As Flannery O’Connor once wrote on the subject of false compassion, "In the absence of faith, we govern by tenderness. And tenderness leads to the gas chamber."

Lauren Richardson is not terminal – she is severely disabled. Lauren Richardson should not be murdered.

Judie Brown is president of American Life League and a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.

September 16, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Last week the L.A. Times ran a story: "Canadian doctor warns Sarah Palin's decision to have Down baby could reduce abortions." The story, based upon a Globe and Mail report, explained that Dr. Andre Lalonde, the executive vice-president of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, is worried that Sarah Palin's decision to give birth to her Down syndrome son, Trig, could lead fewer women to choose abortion for their Down babies.

However, the L.A. Times now says that its story was all wrong and it has apologized for "mischaracterizing" Lalonde's remarks. The Times says that it should not have said that Dr. Lalonde was worried that Palin's example could reduce the Down abortion rate. Instead, it should have emphasized that Lalonde was worried that her example might "pressure" some women who "lack the resources" not to abort their Down children - even though the paper clearly explained this in the original story.........

I guess if you can support the idea that a living, breathing healthy baby would be better off dead, then there really isn’t any evil deed you wouldn’t support.

Justice Scalia...

Thread by wagglebee.

.................................

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Justice Antonin Scalia is one of the most outspoken jurists on the Supreme Court when it comes to talking about abortion. Scalia repeated the mantra on Monday that he's presented to college students and community forums about how the high court doesn't have the power to declare a right to abortion.

During a speech at Utah State University's Taggart Student Center, where 1,700 people came to hear the respected judge tell it like it is, Scalia criticized those jurists who engage in what he called "abstract moralizing."......

Oh Canada! The government up north sometime bothers me, not because they have a different share of death loving yo yo's than we have. It is that certain liberal concepts are actualized in their system, one being that a perp is really a victim we should pity and offer rehab. This bastrich is a flipping murderer serving a life sentence as the libs collectively wring their hands fretting over how to make his life more cozy. I bet they would even balk at his receiving a stern letter of reprimand for his murder.

This story comes from the blog of Alex Shadenberg with thanks to Leslie for the tip.

It appears that Robert Latimer may be transfering from Ottawa to Victoria BC to fulfill the requirements of his parole.

An article in the Globe and Mail indicates that Latimer was granted a request to change the location where he serves his parole.

The article also indicates that Latimer wants to continue training as an electrician. Latimer received training as an electrician while in jail.

Robert Latimer was convicted of second-degree murder for killing his 12 year old daughter Tracy who had cerebral palsy.

'Round here, we know the Terri Legacy will be tied inevitably to the election and especially Sarah Palin as it is the albatross around the collective neck of the liberals and democratics. But it may backfire just a little. Case in point:

.............................................

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP — I am responding to Froma Harrop's column Sept. 7, "The Palin pick." Ms. Harrop describes Gov. Palin as parading around a dysfunctional family. She also says Gov. Palin's family is out of control. How outrageous!

Since when does a 17-year-old becoming pregnant label a family dysfunctional or out of control? Where did Ms. Harrop grow up? Perfectville?

She says Gov. Palin has no foreign-policy experience. Excuse me, but Mr. Obama doesn't have any, either, and he is the one running for president of the United States. She goes on to call Gov. Palin's daughter's fiance a "stud." What kind of language is that?

Then she goes on to talk about the Terri Schiavo incident. How insensitive is that to the parents and siblings of Terri? What does that have to do with this election?

This column clearly shows that Ms. Harrop is an angry woman. She vented her rage about so many things that my head was spinning. This wasn't journalism; it was trash and very hateful. I am really disappointed that the Citizen Patriot would print such garbage.

A person doesn't have to be labeled a "conservative Christian" to have a heart, but I certainly am questioning if Ms. Harrop has one!

Column about Palin was vindictive, spiteful

Getting it wrong consistently...

Not to pull sympathy away from this poor anorexia victim, but we notice the libs just have to bring in Terri. In this case they ressurect the disproven mantra that Terri was an anorexic, and perhaps, just like this poor lady.

Grrrr... Terri did not die from an eating disorder! She was killed! The bulemia story was but a feeble disproved excuse.

This poor lady died a horrible and misunderstood death, but why bring Terri into it? The libs can't help it.

.................................

Heather died the night of March 9, 2003. The direct cause was cardiac arrhythmia, a result of lethally low electrolyte levels. A similar case was that of Terry Schiavo, whose husband contended she battled with bulimia and suffered brain damage due to dangerously low potassium levels.......

Eating disorders kill. Just ask Featherweight Inc.’s Debbie Begeny.

I will be kind and just call Justin Webb dopy, wonder if he is an echo of another namesake. Here he charms the brits with his brilliant castigation of Sarah Palin and ends with the obituary of us pro-lifers in America. But, it gets a reaction...

Americans are generally too kindly to take to all this Old Testament stuff in really large numbers and the creationist museum in Kentucky is - literally and metaphorically - isolated. The social conservaties perished (well, all right, lost this battle) with Terri Schiavo.

That judge had life and death powers, which is why I want somebody who is not an elitest as President, who will appoint judges that if they err... err on the side of the poor creature whose voice is not the loudest.

Just say no to the Puffington Host. Sometimes I imagine the worshippers of the left as green with envy over the pick of Sarah Palin, and that goes for the usual Gang Green as well.

Fascinatingly, though they once again link Sarah to Terri.

..........................................

Can a patient say NO? Can a patient say NO to care, even if that care that might save his or her life? Why would someone choose death? Some providers conclude that such a person is depressed or crazy. If the former, give Zoloft. If the latter, then the person is incompetent and decision-making authority can be taken away. A Dartmouth Center Study reports that many elderly patients may not want "everything possible" done for/to them. When they try to place limits on their care, they meet great resistance from the medical providers.

Terri Schiavo or Nataline Sarkisyan both made national headlines while in vegetative states. They were unable to say NO to a feeding tube or a liver transplant respectively. Their families spoke for them and emphatically said yes! Suppose the girls had left living wills stating that they did not want to be sustained on life support. There are numerous cases showing where the State sided with families against the expressed wishes of the patient.

There are medical circumstances where the patient cannot "just say NO."...........

"Just say NO"...but can you?

Actually, it was unfair of me to accuse the Puffington Host of linking Sarah to Terri, as it was separated in the above article. They don't see it that way, do they? Nawww. It was a natural mistake for me since the article was surrounded by pans of Sarah.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A writer for a libertarian group has written perhaps the most scathing attack on pro-life vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin since the Alaska governor was announced weeks ago as John McCain's running mate. Nicholas Provenzo condemns Palin for the birth of her baby Trig, who has Down syndrome.

Provenzo, who writes for the Center for the Advancement of Capitalism, not only bashes her for allowing Trig to be born, but says she should have made the so-called morally justifiable decision to kill him in an abortion.

The Center for the Advancement of Capitalism bills itself as a group "dedicated to advancing individual rights and economic freedom through Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism."

"Like many, I am troubled by the implications of Alaska governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's decision to knowingly give birth to a child disabled with Down syndrome," Provenzo writes.

"Given that Palin's decision is being celebrated in some quarters, it is crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome (or by extension, any unborn fetus)—a freedom that anti-abortion advocates seek to deny," he adds.

Provenzo advocates not only a discriminatory, but apparently a pro-eugenics view of the disabled that rivals that of Nazi Germany............ .......................

Catholic, huh! I can call myself a North Korean, but that does not make me so. Nobody would mistake me for kin of Kim or Kmeic even.

Jill Stanek would remind us of the true horror of background in that situation and in the interviews Obama attempted to block in Chicago, the horrors would be portrayed along with the singular stand in support of the killings by Broke Obuma.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Catholic attorney Douglas Kmiec, who claims to be pro-life, is continuing his defense of presidential candidate Barack Obama's pro-abortion position. In a new piece, Kmiec says he would have voted for a bill to protect newborns who survive botched abortions, but he can understand why Obama didn't.

The debate comes on the heels of a new television ad running in battleground states that features a woman who survived a late-term abortion criticizing Obama for opposing the bill for medical care for infants who survive like her.

In the article, Kmiec says he would have voted for the Illinois bill to protect born-alive infants had he been in the legislature, but he does not fault Obama for voting against it...

Karen Weber, R.I.P.

Karen Weber died of natural causes.

....................................

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- A woman on a feeding tube at the center of a legal dispute similar to the fight over Terri Schiavo has died.

Her family's case is now moot.

Fifty-seven year old Karen Weber had been hospitalized in Okeechobee since having a stroke in December. She was on a feeding tube and suffered from meningitis.

An attorney for Weber's mother says Weber died Wednesday night.

Weber's husband sought earlier this year to have the feeding tube removed. He said she would not want to live this way. But Weber's mother was fighting to keep her alive.

The arguments in Weber's case were similar to those made over Schiavo, whose husband wanted her feeding tube removed against the wishes of her parents.

He eventually prevailed and Schiavo died in 2005.

Karen’s case IS NOT “moot.”

Karen was allowed to LIVE her life to the end as God, not the culture of death, intended.

Great minds and all that... But you beat me to the draw. I was just starting a key in on that topic! Several news reports repeated that "moot" thingy as if it ended as a draw, but it didn't! Karen and the good guys won! Death dealers lost. She went under God's terms, not at the hands of the drooling executioners. Liberals may not comprehend this, but it is all we seek!

I’m so sorry to read this. Karen was very fortunate to have
such a tiger for a Mom and articulate sister fighting for
her every step of the way!!

Others in similar situations can learn much from the
tenacity and grace this family showed, when face to face
with the forces of death, so prevalent in America.

My our Lord hold them close as they mourn Karen’s passing!!
