BATON ROUGE, La. John McCain is challenging Barack Obama to join him in 10 town hall meetings with voters between now and the Democratic National Convention in August.
McCain, the Republican nominee-in-waiting, sent his Democratic rival a letter Wednesday outlining the offer. He suggested the first town hall be held June 12 in New York.
He said President Kennedy had made such an agreement with former Senator Barry Goldwater for the 1964 election before Kennedy's assassination.
"I don't think we need any big media-run production, no process question from reporters, no spin rooms," McCain said. "Just two Americans running for office in the greatest nation on earth, responding to the questions of the people whose trust we must earn."
Always a risk with the TV looks mentality today, but if people actually pay attention to what is said, I agree, it would be good for McCain.
For what purpose? To show the voters how much they have in common?
We are going to have a one party rule whether we want it or not!
Obama won’t agree to this, he can’t string a coherent sentence together without a teleprompter.
“Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly”...
Thats a massacre waiting to happen.
Young Obama with the old smiling McCain. McCain would get clobbered.
The media would give Obama all the praise and attention.
A socialist will truly be the next POTUS, and he will truly help in turning the entire U.S. into a third world country for the long-term! What a “mess” that’s truly coming everybody’s way very soon throughout the entire U.S.!
Barry is easily flustered and probably the McCain people have ideas on how to take advantage of that.
THE AUDACITY OF TRUTH ABOUT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
Those wild eyed people represent the millions of Americans raised in the government day-care and indoctrination centers we call public schools who did not have, or would not listen to, parents and others who tried to counterweight the garbage they heard at school...who have been raised on 60 second sound bite time spans and know no better.
You have other tens of millions on the dole who will vote for him regardless of position because he promises to keep pilfering the public largess for them.
Still othes of millions will vote for him simply because he is black.
Other millions will vote for him because they know exactly who he is and what he represents and agree with his anti-American positions.
The first three are all what is termed, useful idiots, a term coined by Lenin for the dupes he got to support him.
Against this it is left to us to educate, arouse, and amass the tens of millions of Americans who understand and hold fast to the foundational principles our constitutional republic rests upon...many of them the bitter, rural Americans clinging to their guns and religion that Obama so arrogantly spoke of.
I quote a comment from the Politico thread on this:
“#3. Ordinary people ask the dumbest questions. Imagine if a hard core partisan got to ask a question? You think it’ll be about policy? Not likely. It’ll be.. why’d you sit in that church for 20 years? Or If you were willing to cheat on and leave your handicapped wife for a multi-millionaire girl 20 years younger than you, why should the American people trust you to lead the country? It would be worst than the ABC debate.”
You do know that this is harming Obama? It’s another great idea of McCain, just like the proposal to visit Iraq. He is exposing Obama as naught.
I think McCain’s best bet is to distance himself from Obama as much as he can. He looks bad enough by himself without someone to compare him to.
Right, when put on the spot he stutters and looks like an amateur, perfect setting for him—way to go McCain, keep pressing this idea, if he refuses allowing the “people” to ask the questions it will show how unready he really is. He is only effective when HE controls everything through a one sided speech. He can’t take the heat of being questioned by real people who wants answers.
Juan, standing next to Barry before he has to at some debate would only elevate Barry to MeCain’s level regardless of their experience level and regardless of what is said by each.
I totally disagree, he can fool the young, wet behind the ears college kids he has in a trance, but not the hard working middle class voters who are already suspicious of him. HE would be the one to get clobbered because he doesn’t have the answers, only empty promised he makes in a controlled speech. McCain may not be the greatest speaker but when it comes to substance he definiteky has that going for him, Obama does not.
Considering how often the taller man is elected president, I’m not sure we want Juan standing next to Barry any more than necessary.
Agreed. Obama is terrible without a rehearsed script. He’d never agree to this.
That's what BHS supporters should focus on. You can't use hat word anywhere near the sickly looking messiah wannabe.
