Young Obama with the old smiling McCain.

To this senior citizen, Obama looks practically like a college kid. McCain looks like an elder statesman.

"I don't think we need any big media-run production, no process question from reporters, no spin rooms," McCain said

No doubt he knows darn well, if he goes up one on one with Bama in a face to face debate, Bama will appear as a refined professional speaker in compared to McCain. Appearance are critical for television. Remember Nixon vs Kennedy.

Too bad the GOP hand picked a non-conservative, that has difficulty delivering a speech, and will likely appear inept compared to this guy.

Interesting idea - Obama's platitudes wouldn't stand up so well in a format requiring substance

The McCain List.

God, I could only listen to about 45 seconds of McCain talking. He's going to get crushed in the debates.

Why?

Because Obama looks better reading off of a Tele-Prompter? So does the most dim-witted Hollywood actor.

Obama crashes and burns when he is not reading the words that other people have written for him.

McCain, on the other hand, is in his element in unscripted townhall meetings.

Sounds like a good idea to me. McCain excels in town hall situations, Obama needs a teleprompter to sound coherent.

I don't like his idea, my husband does. I, myself, think this townhall stuff together is a little silly, since they will be together with debates featuring questions from fellow Americas. We'll see. Good day, Mr. Bates.

McCain`s speech last night sucked. He simply cannot give a good, inspiring speech. And he looked awful. It looked like his makeup was slapped on about 2 seconds before he gave the speech, and he sweated a lot. We all know how much appearance matters. (Kennedy/Nixon debate) Obama would clean McCain`s clock in a standard debate.

As for a townhall type thing, I see no reason for Obama to avoid one. Without the teleprompter, he may hem and haw and stumble, but all he (or an audience member) would have to do is goad McCain into losing his temper. McCain does that and he`s toast.

McCain goes for the throat...not bad, but the setup questions Democrats will send to these things will be hard to prevent.

Obama's campaign is greenlighting some form of debates:

As Barack Obama has said before, the idea of joint town halls is appealing and one that would allow a great conversation to take place about the need to change the direction of this country. We would recommend a format that is less structured and lengthier than the McCain campaign suggests, one that more closely resembles the historic debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. But, having just secured our party’s nomination, this is one of the many items we will be addressing in the coming days and look forward to discussing it with the McCain campaign.

Having been the parent of kids who were on their debate teams in high school, I would love to see Lincoln/Douglas style debates. It would be so much better than the crap we've had with the "moderators" (who were basically asking questions that fit into 30 second soundbites and had no real relevance for most Americans).

If I recall correctly, one person speaks for an hour or so, then the other speaks for a bit longer, and then the first speaker gets 15 or 20 minutes to respond.

Hopefully McCain will agree to these, but it doesn't suit his style.

" McCain would get clobbered."

LOL, it is very, very apparent you have never witnessed Hussein speaking without a teleprompter.

For what purpose? To show the voters how much they have in common?

Exactly, the only purpose for that show would be about who's the better liberal.

In Chicago, there is only 1 political party. And in the whole country you would think there was only 1 political party by the way the media covers the news. Even Fox News, it’s all democrats, democrats all the time. I am so sick of Barak Obama. The news is just super-saturated with this empty shirt Obama. I hope he loses the election just so I don’t have to hear his name anymore.

Goldwater thought it a shame that Kennedy didn't live to put their agreement into place, he believed our campaigns would have been more about substance if it had worked. I actually agree, so this might be a good opportunity, but I don't think Obama will do it.

McCain is a little more shrewd than I thought, he keeps doing stuff to get under Obama’s skin. First there was the Iraq offer, then there was his speech last night (you could actually hear bitterness in Obama’s voice when he noted that McCain doesn't give him credit for his accomplishments, whatever he thinks those would be. Finding the Senate men's room without assistance?), now he's offering this shinny red apple with the razor planted inside. OK Mr. articulate, Mr. change, Mr. substance, lets have it out! The expectations couldn't be lower for McCain or higher for Obama in that format and both of them know it.

The media could swoon all they want, but the people watching at home would make up their own minds. Lets remember that superman didn't exactly finish strongly in the primaries and Hillary beat his butt in their last debate, after which Obama retreated from further debates like a vampire alluding the morning sun. Yet another way that McCain can get under Obama’s skin and possibly trap him into a key mistake.

If only McCain were a Democrat (yeah, I know, save the wise remarks) and Obama were a Republican the media would be at this very moment beating the drum for the town hall meetings to begin next week!

Perhaps there's a way we could bring pressure on them to do just that, anyway. God knows they love being hypocrites but hate to be called the same.

Did you listen to the same speech I did????

Oh, my, gawd..... he has a nasally, whine and weird delivery when he talks... and then he did the lizard tongue lick to ward off the slobber..... jeez....

. Heck, I like the conservative B.S. that McCain is shoveling, even though all of us know he doesn't believe a word of it........

it's just his delivery is going to get him crushed in the debates.

Obama is a raving liberal traitor and would put us in a gulag if he's elected.

McCain is just terrible when he speaks.

Earth to Dick Vomer. Earth to Dick Vomer. That was NOT a townhall meeting format.

THIS is a townhall meeting format.

McCain NH Town Hall on Life

McCain does not put on a good show, like Obama does, when he reads off of a Tele-Prompter. In townhall meetings, he is pretty good.

Oh, my, gawd..... he has a nasally, whine and weird delivery when he talks... and then he did the lizard tongue lick to ward off the slobber..... jeez.... Dick Vomer

"Lincoln's voice was, when he first began speaking, shrill, squeaking, piping, unpleasant; his general look, his form, his pose, the color of his flesh, wrinkled and dry, his sensitiveness, and his momentary diffidence, everything seemed to be against him" -- William Henry Herndon, law partner and biographer of Abraham Lincoln

And your point is?

That, for somebody like you, a charismatic voice matters more than what the voice is saying?

Well, here is a charismatic man with a charismatic voice for you.

First of all, I doubt that 150-200 years from now anybody will be quoting from a speech that McCain makes.

Secondly, I know that he wasn't speaking at a town hall meeting. He was just speaking like most of the current politicians, from the text that somebody else wrote. Even some of the "ad libs" are pre-made. But his delivery will not let his "message" get across to the idiots on the democrat side that want a reason not to vote for Obamalamadingdong. THAT is my point.

Thirdly, the crack about "a charismatic voice matters more than what the voice is saying?" Not really. Winston Churchill had a slobbery voice that sometimes bordered on mumbling, but I thought his words and message was inspiring. McCain..... not so much.... Obamalamadingdong.... bubble gum for the ears.

If there are any Obama supporters, can you explain what he means by "Hard diplomacy".... as opposed to what we're doing now?

Finally, I think that McCain will probably win but only because the other choice is liberal democrat as opposed to our guy who is a moderate democrat.

Either way, we're screwed.

Maybe not, but they may be talking about how America surrendered the Persian Gulf region with 70% of the World's known oil reserves to the Iranian Islamist Mullahs that were actively seeking nuclear weapons and delivery systems because Copperheads like you hated McCain more than they cared about the future safety of America.

The Surge strategy that McCain championed back in 2006 when even Rumsfeld and Bush opposed it is now winning the war.

Barack has promised to lose the war.

And what is Dick Vomer doing now that the primaries are over?

Helping Barack Obama become the next Commander-in-Chief.

I'm a "copperhead".....Well gee whiz..... first of all I'm from Texas.... and second of all I for lining up every muzzie jihadist, muzzie jihadist enabler, muzzie jihadist financier and muzzie jihadist film/audio/television propagandist up against a wall and putting a bullet in their heads. So I'm kind of a "copperhead"..... but not really.

As far as talking about America surrendering (whatever you made up)% of the worlds known reserve...puhleeze. They might be talking about how we had so called leaders believe in a mythologic human contribution to warming in the face of temperature declines and failed to drill where the last bastion of a representative democracy had millions of barrels of oil. Thereby allowing itself to be bankrupted by bureaucrats, socialists, communists and a boredom of a civilized society.

They might talk about how republics allowed their borders to be settled and taken over by an alien culture that had no loyalty to the culture and civilization of the home country.... just like the visigoths....just like the latin americans....

They might talk about how a former leader of the country allowed the Chinese to obtain then disseminate the technology that led to its downfall.

Finally about the "surge" winning the "war". You don't get the big picture or maybe it's just a matter of semantics. The "war" is global in nature and involves a worldwide anti-American, anti-Capitalistic, guerilla war that will have to be fought for the next several generations.

We are killing the jihadist in the mountains of Afghanistan, jungles of Philippines, Iraq, Africa, and by the end of the next administration, in South America and the United States. The surge is helping to pacify Iraq. Until they have a representative form of government with property rights and rule of law they will remain a thugocracy...... the new boss will be the same as the old boss.

I'm not going to need to help obamalamadingdong become CIC. McCain is probably going to limp in and be the Republican Jimmy Carter.....

Higher taxes, getting along with democrats, amnesty for illegals, further erosion of the private health care system, further global warming bullsh#t. etc, etc, etc.

Like I said... one sucks and the other one sucks worse... who gives a rip?

Knock yourself out, call me names, question my patriotism.... free country.

Since you've obviously got the moans for McCain... just have him kiss us after he gives it to us in the rear. OK?

Earth to Dick Vomer. It is no longer 1861 or 1862 or 1863 or 1864 or 1865. It is now 2008, the War of the Late Unpleasantness is over and Texas is once again part of the Union.

It matters not if you are from Texas or even if your great-great-grandfather fought in Hood's Brigade. If you are now working politically to help America lose a war, you qualify for the label of a Copperhead.

It matters not if your grandfather during World War II was in favor of shooting Axis Sally and Tokyo Rose but was still working to get a candidate elected that wanted to bug out of the war and leave the battlefield to the enemy because he hated FDR more than he hated that America would lose the war. If he was working politically to help America lose a war, he qualified for the label of a Copperhead.

As far as talking about America surrendering (whatever you made up)% of the worlds known reserve...puhleeze. They might be talking about how we had so called leaders believe in a mythologic human contribution yadda, yadda, yadda

**********

Obama 17 months ago:

Published Jan. 30, 2007 ...... Obama wants troops home by spring ’08 ……. Illinois senator, presidential candidate introduces bill to force redeployment

**********

No matter how much you tap-dance to justify how you are now helping get Barack Hussein Obama elected in November, abandoning the battlefield, bugging out and leaving the radiacal Islamist mullahs of Iran in military control of the region will be SURRENDER.

And, along with the battlefield, what will we be surrendering to the military control of fanatical Iranian mullahs seeking nuclear weapons and delivery systems?

The Brookings Institution ... Although the Middle East produces a quarter of world oil supplies, it holds between two-thirds and three-quarters of all known oil reserves. For that reason the United States and the West have continued to define the region as being vitally important.

And how do you deal with such realities of the World, Dick Vomer?

By cramming your head firmly up your rectum and saying " As far as talking about America surrendering (whatever you made up)% of the worlds known reserve...puhleeze.

If you are too young or were too stoned in 1973 to remember how the loss of access of the Persian Gulf oil reserves affects America, ask somebody who was alive, sober and paying attention back in those days.
