Fred Barnes: Obama Falsely Claims Banking Committee Membership
News Busters ^ | July 25, 2008 | Brad Wilmouth

Posted on 07/25/2008 4:22:57 PM PDT by Turret Gunner A20

It seems Barack Obama had a "senior moment" on Wednesday during his trip to Israel regarding which Senate committees he is a member of. On the same day's Special Report with Brit Hume, during the "Fox All Stars" segment, the Weekly Standard's Fred Barnes called out Obama for his claim, which the Illinois Senator made while trying to impress Israeli reporters, that he is a member of the Senate Banking Committee, and he took credit for the passage of legislation regarding Iran. Barnes: "[Obama] was trying to brag about how tough he was on the Iranians, and he said his committee, the Senate Banking Committee, had passed a resolution ... that would have caused American firms to divest of Iranian interests. And the trouble is, he's not on that committee. ... And he didn't vote for it. That would be a senior moment if McCain did it.

Indeed, the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs membership roster does not list Obama's name. But during a news conference, which aired live Wednesday morning during CNN Newsroom, Obama seemed to embellish his resume: "Now, in terms of knowing my commitments, you don't have to just look at my words, you can look at my deeds. Just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran, as a way of ratcheting up the pressure to ensure that they don't obtain a nuclear weapon.

I think we should all give the guy a break, back off and STFU!

Just think about this a minute. Use some common sense.

He only had 143 days in the Senate to learn all the rules, which committees he was to serve on, where the bathrooms are, the best place to do blow without being seen..., etc.

That’s a lot of stuff to absorb in such a short time.

Senate Banking Committee? With his friends such as Rezko, it might better be named as the Senate Laundering Committee.

Drudge would have that bold face lie in headlines if McCain or Hillary had done that. Odd, how he simply ignore the non stop gaffes and lies spouted by his messiah.

Give the guy a break. He’s only been in the Senate for a couple of years and has spent all that time running for President. How is he expected to remember which committees he is on when he is never there?

ROFLMAO. Does anyone know how many days BHMO has worked in his life? How many days has he actually been present in the Senate?

Obama hasn’t really spent much time in the Senate and he probably doesn’t know much about the place, let alone which committees he’s on. None of that matters. The election is all about “change” and “hope” and “hope for change”, etc., etc.

They used to tell me I was building a dream, and so I followed the mob,
When there was earth to plow, or guns to bear, I was always there right on the job.
They used to tell me I was building a dream, with peace and glory ahead,
Why should I be standing in line, just waiting for bread?

Once I built a railroad, I made it run, made it race against time.
Once I built a railroad; now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?
Once I built a tower, up to the sun, brick, and rivet, and lime;
Once I built a tower, now it's done. Brother, can you spare a dime?

Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!

Say, don't you remember, they called me Al; it was Al all the time.
Why don't you remember, I'm your pal? Buddy, can you spare a dime?

Once in khaki suits, gee we looked swell,
Full of that Yankee Doodly Dum,
Half a million boots went slogging through Hell,
And I was the kid with the drum!

Obama thought that he could impress the Joos in Israel by saying that he had some connection to banking?

Yes, and; I received this award and that one and those, too. I imagined those in my dreams. I’d be a total BS artist, and; I’d also in deep sh-t if I stated a total lie like-I have a DSC.

At least the Stolen Valor Act works. Why should we hold our nation’s vets and active duty military to higher standards then our elected officials?

Men have been thrown out of the military for wearing a ribbon representing an award they never were awarded or even an OLC to another award of the same medal never awarded.

What is the Diff? Why should we condone less honorable conduct of our Congress then of our military?

Why do we allow any elected official feeding at the public trough to fabricate?

Well, he can be forgiven to forget which committee that he never held a meeting for.

Everyone needs to be reminded that he indeed has taken public funds to run for President. He has taken a salary—and not done the job the people pay him to do. He doesn’t even KNOW what his job description is!

Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

I am stunned by this. Also stunned that FOX seems enamored of him as well. There are no stories on McCain, just McCain’s reactions to Obama.

We need Heather Wilson for Vice President!

Maybe because honor is expected in miitary folks. Not so with politicians.

No sense in fighting an impossible war.

OK. Why don’t you tell us how you would go about winning a war to make politicians honest. For Thousands of years mankind has been fighting that war — and faiing miserably.

I did -- "Maybe because honor is expected in miitary folks. Not so with politicians. No sense in fighting an impossible war."

You replied: Impossible war? My A.

I then asked you: "OK. Why don’t you tell us how you would go about winning a war to make politicians honest. For Thousands of years mankind has been fighting that war — and faiing miserably.

Any further questions? If so, please don't give me any more of that My A kind of crap.
