Well, except for the tunnel...which has helped the Russians immensely...they are probably using a lot of the same manuever warfare tactics in terms of where to go, what to block, and what ground to hold.
Yes, but from the Russian point of view the same could be said about Kosovo. The whole world recognized it was part of Serbia, until suddenly Madeline Albright and CNN became obsessed with the fate of the Moslem majority there. Then, suddenly, for humanitarian reasons it had to be seperated.
The Russians are simply running the Albright / Clinton playbook back at us. Of course being Russians it is somewhat clumsy immitation without the niceities of UN resoltions or whatever smoke and mirrors Clinton and Albright used to give legitimacy to the dismanteling of a soverign state.
Next one might expet to see Georgian political leaders put on trial, ala Milosovich. I am sure plenty of proof of "war crimes" and "ethnic cleansing" can be found in South Ossessia. The unprovoked rocket attacks of 8/7 by the Georgians on the provincial capitol alone will provide all the fodder needed.
When all this happens CNN will no duobt have Holbrooke and Albright and Sandy Burger and maybe even the 'toon himself on to deplore what the Russians are doing.
Putin is certainly enjoying every minute of this! And making sure we know it.
Georgia’s Interior Ministry captured

Russian forces have taken the Georgian Interior Ministry in the western city of Zugdidi amid an escalating conflict in the Caucasus region.
“The Russians have crossed the border and are now in control of Zugdidi,” a reporter for Norwegian TV2 news channel said on Monday.
The arrival of the Russian troops came just after UN observers left the town, AFP quoted the reporter as saying.
“We saw Russian military trucks passing by. We saw hundreds of soldiers. There was a mix of soldiers from the regular army and soldiers that are supposed to be peacekeepers,” he said.
This comes while Georgian authorities said Russian forces occupied the city of Gori, 76 kilometers west of Georgia’s capital, Tbilisi.

That's where the Kosovo precedent would come in. NATO forces would come in to protect the oppressed Atzlaners. The UN would lay down sanctions and resolutions to condemn any attempt in Washington to help the racist white Texans harassing the embattled ethnic majority. Most of the pols in DC would already support the enlightened UN position and the rest would be too weak kneed to seriously oppose it.
They owuld be the first to put down such attempts...assisted by their Norte Americano brothers and sisters in the rest of Texas.
I am relatviely confidant that there will be no county by county break away in Texas in the forseeable future. In the case of Medellin, Texas pretty much showed what it thought of International, World Court, UN law with Mexico influencing. I cannot speak for New Mexico.
And this would be where NATO/UN/DC finds out how ugly a war can get amongst a very heavily armed (by the rest of the world's standards) population.
Turkey’s main wall to becoming a part of the EU is the heavy Muslim influence in my opinion. There is still a distrust to the old bloods in Europe.
The Turks are watching this situation..as is the rest of the world, and especially the free countries form the old soviet block. We need to act. We need to call on friends and point out the disadvantages of this action being allowed. Turkey is VERY concerned about its borders with Iraq and the population there. There are more advantages to the Turks than just controlling the Kurds in the east IMO.
None of that pertains here. Using that logic any invasion could be justified. The Russians are clearly wrong here and setting a precedent. Kosovo was different in many ways.
Is there any truth to reports that the S. Ossetians had military bases entrenched in their own residential areas from where they were launching attacks on Georgians?
An invading Army in Texas would very quickly learn why logistics are hell in a hostile populace, if said Army ever got a foothold in the 1st place.

As if Russia´s membership meant anything. It has always been a joke. Western politicians like the idea of pretending that Russia is a civilized counrty. This war clearly shows it isn´t.
The war in Iraq was justified, Ron Paul lost the GOP race fair and square, and Bob Barr stands no chance. You BDSers are no different than the far-left.
There is big difference between hating America and wanting to see it destroyed, or subsumed into the North American Union or the UN (the position of the left) and wanting to preserve the USA and see her become stronger and return to her roots. (the Ron Paul position as he articulates it). I think there are reasonable arguments to be made that the net results of Bush's foreign policy, including the Iraq War, are negative for the USA. For us to do better in the future we need, as American loving conservatives, to have free and open discussions on this rather than asserting that everything Bush did was spot on and that people opposing those policies are mentally ill. (BDS).
I would say that people who say Bush brought down the towers, invaded Iraq to make Haliburton richer, is a sock puppet controlled by the Carlyle Group, etc. are really deranged.
The initial comment that Bush has put more money into defending Iraqi borders than the US ones remains un-commented upon.
When we look back from America circa 2040 what do you think will be viewed as the bigger force changing America: the defeat of the potential threat that Saddam represented or the sweeping demographic and cultural changed engendered by the Bush policy of allowing 20 to 30 million Mexicans to move here at will.
I suspect the latter will be a much bigger problem, and in fact has sown the seeds for terrible things, the likes of which we haven't seen since 1865. If in fact that comes to pass Bush may indeed be considered a very poor President for allowing things to take the turn they have.

The saddest part of all this is that Christians can’t seem to stop fighting themselves when we face an even greater threat.
The first key to seeing that anything is happening is a mobilization order of some kind.. ships being sent or something.
That should of been done first thing.. even if was to the gates of the Black Sea.. at least Russia would know we weren’t watching from a big distance.
We could of punished them for not stopping by just sinking some of their fleet.
I believe the answer to all of the above is "No".
Demographics is destiny. It's a simple fact that many parts of the USA will no longer be culturally part of the USA in as little as 20 years. It won't be long after that the political seperation begins. Slowly at first, always by voting, but inexerable and moving only in one direction.
Eventually we will be facing bad choices, just like the Georgians were. Hopefully we make smarter choices when that day arrives. But it's not looking too good. After all we've made a series of horrible chioces so far, that has allowed things to get to the point we're even thinking about this.
I believe Travis's books, particularly the second one, are prophetic.
