Obama says Clarence Thomas wasn't experienced enough, tough decisions above his "pay grade"
August 17, 2008 | rightcoast

In the two stories below on Rick Warren's Saddleback Church forum, Sen. Barack Obama made two striking comments.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/16/warren.forum/index.html

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-saddleback17-2008aug17,0,2051277.story

When asked which Supreme Court justice he would not have nominated, Obama's answer was: Clarence Thomas. Says Obama, "I don't think he was a strong enough jurist or a legal thinker at that time for that. I profoundly disagree with his interpretation [of the Constitution]."

This is another way of saying that, in Obama's view, Thomas wasn't up to the job, and didn't have the experience or qualifications necessary for that high position. So, now... experience does matter?

When asked to define when a baby gets human rights, Obama said that the question is "above my pay grade".

So, either Obama is saying experience matters, but that he doesn't want to make the tough calls, or (and this might be frighteningly accurate) he would prefer to abdicate his responsibility on the really big moral issues to the Supreme Court, where experience really does matter.

Thomas “didn’t have the experience or qualifications necessary”. ??? What does that say about the Community Organizer?

If a man knows not and knows not that he knows not, shun him, for he is a fool.

Hey now, be fair. Don’t forget State Senator, and he’s now past the half-way mark in his first term in the U.S. Senate!

Striking to compare both of these remarks.

Obama doesn’t have the right to kiss Mr. Thomas’ shoes, let alone make a judgment regarding Justice Thomas’ judicial qualifications.

What’s wrong, BHO, Justice Thomas didn’t stay on the plantation long enough?

He said America is SELFISH??? How DARE HE...HOW DARE HE????? I’m so freaked out about that...apparently, he has never been in a real church..a Church that does missionary work in the poorest areas of the US and abroad. Apparently he has never read the figures about how much charity Americans give, both financially and of their time. SELFISH? This guy is evil...plain and sure.

Obama's qualifications entitle him to position of head towel boy in a muslim brothel.

I have a brother in California who is a retired teacher and died in the wool Dem. I talked to him on the phone the other day and asked him at least five times to name one significant achievement of Obama. He either changed the subject or avoided answering me on every occassion. The best he could do, was say Obama wants to “change” things in Washington. I told him that “change” was to bring Chicago style politics to the nations capital. I might as well have been talking to a brick though. No amount of facts and logic is going to change these peoples minds.

Seriously now, who would think "plantation politics" continues to have a place in American life. Like, uh, Thomas has self-described himself as an A-B-C or "America's Blackest Child". Obama has a white mother.

Naw, I'd never suspect the fortunate, pampered Big House mulatato of continuing to bear ill-will toward his field-hand brother.(/sarc)

Right, I really don't suspect that, but then again it leaves me wondering what it was Obama was saying about Judge Thomas.

Purely a thought...but if I take both the Republican and Democratic nominees over the past 100 years...Obama is likely to be in position one or two of that list of 100-odd candidates. Someone might want to write down all the Democratic candidates since 1900...and give their responsible jobs and experience level, compared to this guy.

The REAL dangerous element of this comment by Obama is the part about “interpretation” of the Constitution. Thomas rightly believes that the Constitution means EXACTLY what it says...nothing more, nothing less.

Liberals like Obama want to “interpret” the Constitution to their purposes...just like Obama does with the Bible.

BO really stepped into it. Judging Clarence Thomas was above Obama's pay grade, but BO does it anyway. The decision to leave babies in a dirty utility room is above his pay grade, but BO wants them to die anyway.

The only way to justify his decision is to conclude that only women should be president because it's above a man's pay grade to find fault with HOMOCIDAL neglect of infants! ONLY A WOMAN CAN SAY WHAT IS OR IS NOT HOMOCIDAL NEGLECT OF INFANTS! THAT MIGHT MAKE SENSE TO A FEW LIBERALS, BUT NOT TO ME!

[calming down] Yes. What else can the man be saying? It's above a man's pay grade to decide if a woman wants her baby dumped off into a utility room to die from neglect. Thus, only a woman can appoint justices, and only a woman should be a senator. Then he makes sense.
