State science standards in election spotlight (ID/Creation Kansans need to vote!)
The Wichita Eagle ^ | August 1, 2008 | LORI YOUNT

With five seats on the State Board of Education up for grabs this year, education advocates say how children learn about evolution hangs in the balance -- and who voters choose could affect Kansas' national reputation.

A frequent flip-flop between moderate and conservative majorities on the 10-member board has resulted in the state changing its science standards four times in the past eight years.

Conservatives have pushed for standards casting doubt on evolution, and moderates have said intelligent design does not belong in the science classroom.

In 2007, a new 6-4 moderate majority removed standards that called evolution into question.

This year, none of the three moderates whose seats are up for election are running again. Only one of the two conservative incumbents is running for re-election...

You don’t seem to realize -

if we allow the Christian worldview to creep into public policy and education,

we’ll end up like Afghanistan under the Taliban!

Let’s face it, the godless way leads to a misunderstanding of everything, from top to bottom. This misunderstanding includes godless notions about the existence (and eventual fate) of one’s soul.

In man’s wisdom over God’s.

This does no good for those that don’t recognize the authority of the Bible, but it should give Christians pause when they put the faulty reasoning of man over God’s truth:

Proverbs 3:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.

“Christian worldview” makes fundamentalist dogma sound so much more palatable.

...science and how it is taught in THIS country...as influenced by CHRISTIANS.

Religion doesn't influence science, except perhaps as an irritant. Biology is the same in Russia and China and Pakistan and India and Africa. Same for physics, geology, chemistry and so forth. There is no religious science.

I will not argue that there are no bad or evil scientists, or that scientists as human beings all embody some perfect ideal of science, but over time, rubbish that isn't supported by evidence gets weeded out.

Yeah, our society is such a much better place since Christian worldview has been forcefully shoved out of education and the public square.

Leading societal indicators will tell you how much “better” our society has been since 1963.

Hey, but at least you won’t be subjected to “judgementalism” for your hedonism! Great!

You’re implicitly telling me that Catholics don’t have a Christian worldview. I’m telling you I think that’s a load of crap. You want to take it over to the Religion forum and discuss it there?

PS Epigenetics is telling us something the Bible has been telling us all along. Just about everything you become via life choices gets epigenetically passed down to your children. Even attitudes cause heritable epigenetic changes. Thus, parents can be a blessing or a curse to their children in more ways than one. Very eye-opening stuff.

hmmm... leap of logic... sounds like I hit a nerve without knowing it.

I suppose it's where you look for your authority, for your source of truth - whether it's in the declarations of "The Church" or in the Word of God. I guess that might be where I struct the nerve...

bingo...making the argument for me!

So if science can withstand religion even in a place like Pakistan, why is it you’re detemined to hijack the legal system to prevent free flow of ideas again???

Where I look for "authority" is not your concern, unless you're claiming authority over my religious beliefs.

Just for the record, I'm not Catholic but if you're going to start making declarations about who is and isn't a Christian, and by extension who is and isn't qualified to be a teacher or do scientific research then let's have a look at who is and isn't going to pass muster.

I know...one man made a point to display such godless liberal lunacy...

seems a school got together and before the football game, the citizens wished to pray before the game so over the intercom, the man said since HE was “not allowed” to lead the people in prayer he would not, so as I’m saying this prayer just keep in mind I’m not “leading” anyone and went on with the prayer...

This is the very mindlessness I’m referring to!

So once again...because it IS doesn’t mean it’s right, so try again....free exercise thereof...

we’re talking about founding fathers, not the ACLU godless agenda misunderstanding and abusing their ideas...

(and I’ll even let you off the hook with the PROFOUND hypocrisy you’re ignoring and won’t even take you to task on the sick militant homosexual agenda normalizing their filth over children, sancitioned by the godless liberal gov. authority!)

if you're going to start making declarations about who is and isn't a Christian,

interesting... I believe I posted something about what Christians should think about in this issue, but not about whether they were Christians for believing it... Of course, there is the liberal "emergent church" that's going around saying that Christ's divinity is of no consequence - now THAT I'll question.

by extension who is and isn't qualified to be a teacher or do scientific research

Now isn't this EXACTLY what this is about? Christian worldview cannot be taught, by law? And on the other thread, any science curriculum from a Christian worldview disqualifies a student from entering college?

And you're accusing the Creationists of WHAT?
Of "determining who should teach and do science research"?
Hey, nice beam.

I didn’t mean to imply that science prospers in theocracies. Islamic countries contribute almost no original science.

Islamic countries contribute almost no original science.

Careful, you're inadvertantly swerving into the fact that the Christian worldview is the basis of modern scientific thinking.

Amazingly all industrial research into Biology by privately funded corporations also fall well within the paradigm established by the theory of evolution through natural selection and for one reason, it produces results that are marketable.

Oil companies seem to not hire Young Earth Creationist Geologists when they are looking for Oil. And for the same reason.

The Discovery Institute has millions of dollars, yet they prefer to use it to hire lawyers than to hire researchers. And I know why.

Are we talking about "Christian worldview" or "fundamentalist dogma", or are you submitting that they are the same thing?

If you're going to submit they're both the same, then by your account Catholics, and probably the majority of those who consider themselves Christians do not have a "Christian worldview" by your account.

What exactly is this "Christian worldview" you throw around so easily, and who exactly does and doesn't have it?

hijack the legal system

Just curious: when it bringing a lawsuit not "hijacking the legal system"? Only when your side wins?
