First of all, I am impressed at how this family has dealt with such a difficult issue. They are certainly walking the walk. That being said, I think everyone should be careful about what they say now and what has been said in the past. The following links are FR threads about Jamie Lynn Spears’ teenage pregnancy. You want a “clean” candidate with no children, so to avoid any image issues.
That is silly.
Kids are messy, they do dumb things and don’t always make their parents look the best.
Do you have kids yourself? And if you do, would they have always presented “perfect” images if you were under the scrutiny of a VP candidate?

I seriously doubt that Reagan would have chosen a running mate, who he knew had a pregnant daughter sitting at home. That is just handing the political opposition ammunition they can fire at will. Get real!

Maureen Reagan died, childless, in 2001.

Patti Davis was born in 1952 and has had a barren womb since circa 1997.

Doria Palmieri is "seven years older" than Ron Reagan, so was probably born circa 1951, and has had a barren womb since circa 1996.

So unless Ron Reagan divorces Doria Palmieri and marries a younger woman, or has a child out of wedlock, WITHIN OUR LIFETIMES, RONALD WILSON REAGAN'S BLOODLINE WILL DISAPPEAR FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

PS: Chelsea Clinton is already 28 years old, with no marriage in sight, and has maybe 15 good years of fertility left in her, so the clock is ticking on that Clinton bloodline, as well.

Also, Obama not wanting to straddle his daughters with a mistake of pregnancy.

Regarding Pissant and his aliases. He had me fooled too. I realize now he’s one of a few left on this forum who spends 95% of his time trying to crash our party. He’s probably a Barr supporter, and maybe even looks like the guy.

Just about all of us were against McCain at first. But he’s won my vote. In debate, he’s actually pretty good. He can speak from a position of experience on just about every issue.

Teen pregancy. Yes, let’s have a debate on that. Let’s make it the first question to Obama and McCain and of Biden and Palin.

This is a family’s issue. As the son of an evangelical pastor, I have seen a few of my father’s congregation and surrounding church’s congregation screw up.

We are all human. We mess up. It’s what we do when we mess up that separates us from the heathens.

Sounds to me like the family is doing the right thing. The daughter is going to marry her child’s father. The family is going to support them. Sounds good to me.

If any evangelical or other “morally focused” individual decides not to vote for McCain/Palin based on THIS issue, then you are guilty of being hypocritical. In the words of Jesus Christ, “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”

That being said, McCain/Palin ‘08. Palin/? 2012!!!

Way back in 1884 Grover Cleveland was running for president, and was forced to admit he had fathered an illegitimate child and had been paying child support to the mother. His opponents thought it would destroy him, creating the chant "Ma, Ma, Where's my Pa? He's in the White House, ha ha ha!"

Instead, Cleveland's acknowledgement of his mistake, and his willingness to take financial responsibility for it, enabled him to weather the storm.

Today, we're dealing not with a candidate, but the daughter of a candidate. Did she do something stupid? You betcha! But at the same time the Palins handled this matter by welcoming the unborn child. They didn't sneak the daughter off for a clandestine abortion to protect their careers. They didn't sacrifice a child's viability for their political viability.

One can never fully know how something like this will play out, but I respect the Palins for handling a crisis this way. And I rarely praise McCain, but if he chose Palin knowing this, rather than throwing her overboard, it speaks damn well of him.

Obama’s wife and kids have been kept out of it by the press, at his request, except for when his wife opens her loud mouth and the press can’t ignore it. I don’t even know anything about Biden’s family, except that he tells the story (which he has embellished) about his first wife and kids being killed in a traffic accident.

I think it’s reasonable to expect Palin’s family to have the same privacy. The kids seem fine, the family is dealing with it the right way, and it’s a private matter.
