BREAKING: Sarah Palin "Winged" Her Speech Because of "Broken" Teleprompter
Red State ^ | September 4, 2008 | Erick Erickson

Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

Contrast this to Barack Obama who, when last his teleprompter malfunctioned, was left stuttering before a crowd unable to advance his speech until the problem was resolved.

Sarah Palin. Winner.

This makes Governor Palin and even more remarkable lady since she continued her speech flawlessly.

Now I'm even more impressed - with both speeches.

Rudy was good, Sarah was awesome.

Thank God they both were excellent speakers. If it happens to Obama, he might go uh... err... uh...

Anyway, is it that difficult to have a good telepromter machine that actually can be set manually to follow the pace of the speech?

If she’s that good WITHOUT a teleprompter...that’s what the media should be talking about today.

Obama would have stuttered and drooled and made an even bigger fool out of himself than he already is.

Palin was the right choice at the right time, and she proved that in spades last night.

Let's see Obama do that! There would be a lot of uhs and ohs if the teleprompter ever malfunctioned during one of his speeches.

One more thing Sarah Palin can do effortlessly that Zerobama would struggle with.

Governor Palin doesn't need a teleprompter. She is a remarkable speaker.

I had the impression that she had paper in front of her as back up. At certain points in the speech, the camera clearly showed a teleprompter -- but at other points, I thought I saw her glancing down at a written speech from time to time.

She was smart enough to bring backup just in case of a technical problem. I bet Obama doesn't do that.

Cool story if true, and needs more details about the degree of disruption.

I forwarded the “breaking” story to Drudge.

If Obama was giving a speech, and the teleprompter broke down right before the closing line, which was “Thank you, and I ask for your vote in November,” and if that was the closing line of all his speeches, he’d still start stammering, “duh, uh, uh, uh, uh....”
