Swift blasts Obama over 'pig' comment
Boston Globe ^

Posted on 09/09/2008 4:18:03 PM PDT by Chet 99

Jane Swift went quickly to work this evening as a leader of a brand new "truth squad" defending GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, excoriating Barack Obama for a comment he made while campaigning in Virginia today.

Obama told voters that they shouldn't believe McCain and Palin's talk about reforming Washington. "You can put lipstick on a pig," Obama said. "It's still a pig."

Republicans took offense, saying that was a personal attack on Palin, who during the GOP convention speech last week, asked delegates if they knew the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull. Pointing to her mouth, she exclaimed, "Lipstick."

Swift told reporters on a conference call that Obama's comment was "disgraceful" and that "he owes Governor Palin an apology."

Challenged about how she could be sure that Obama was referring to Palin, Swift replied, "She's the only one of the four presidential or vice presidential candidates who wears lipstick."

Betcha we get an apology from Obama before the night is over.

I hope he stews over it for a couple of days while it simmers and gets reported. If he apologizes too soon, the media won't even run it as a story. The best we can do is hope for the media reports this in prime time before he apologizes.

Bob Beckel and Julien Epstein, Clinton POS lawyer. Beckel said “ pig in lipstick”. Now Obama says basically the same thing?
This is a coordinated "attack”, absolutely no doubt about it.

I disagree that the left is landing any serious blows on Governor Palin. They are trying - flailing, really - but the fast-moving responses from McCain’s team, plus the outrage expressed on websites like this one, have blunted the attacks.

We need to keep up the fight!

Well, I guess Jane Swift might know something about pigs herself.

Never wrestle in the mud with an obama, you’ll both get dirty and the obama will like it.

All they are doing by attacking her qualifications and background is lowering expectations, the same thing that happened before her convention speech.

They are preparing America to see Cletusette, the slack-jawed yokeless, in the debate with Biden. I can't wait.

The audience reaction proves that they knew he was referring to Palin. This screenshot, is just after he said "...its still a pig". Everyone is clapping and laughing maliciously. Without Palin, the comment would be just more blather that wouldn't get much reaction.

If he denies he intended this as a jibe, he is just being too cute, like Huckabee denying there was a cross.

This pic, showing the moment that Obama drew inspiration for his comment, shows the bored audience sitting on their hands, awaiting his witticism.

Let’s get something straight here. Obama technically was talking about dressing up old and bad policies. That is the angle he will hide behind in the coming days. However, his use of the metaphor was pre-meditated. The link is lipstick. He knew it was successful because of the cat calls and hoots from the audience after the first half of the line. If he were a gentleman and didn’t want the punch to land where it did, he would have stopped when the hooting and cat calls started and said, “wait, I am not talking about Governor Palin’s speech. I want to be sure I am talking about the old metaphor for repackaging old ideas.”

He did not do that because he knew he could come out and land a cheap and low shot and then hide behind a dubious meaning. This my friends, is the tactic of a weasel.

Yes I do. I went for a colon inspection, as I drifted in and out of a drug induced coma I saw a lot of Jane Swifts removed, it was refreshing.

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called 'change,'" Obama continued, "it's still gonna stink after eight years.

Misogynistic comment? Decide for yourselves.

I remember watching that thinking there’s no way someone would do something like that on purpose. Not only did he do it, but the audience got it and laughed.,

I’m willing to believe that The One was simply using a well known expression with no thought of Palin or her hockey mom line. Still, this is indicative of the way things have started to go for him. It’s one more day of him joined at the hip to the bottom of the Republican ticket. One more day for him to shrink a little bit more as his supposed Midas touch wears off. Just another thing in the back of his mind to make him even more stilted and defensive on the stump. Precious.
