Summary of Obama's debate performance tonight: "I've got a bracelet, too."
PBS ^ | 9/26/2008 | PBS

Barack was the very junior senator on the defensive the entire evening.

After John McCain eloquently (and without notes) discussed the bracelet he wears given to him by the mom of a dead Iraq war vet.

Trying to prove his own support for the troops, Obama chimed in with a pathetic "I've got a bracelet, too," as he looked down at his notes to read the name of the soldier.

FNC just had Joe Biden on, but not Sarah Palin. What the Hell is up with that?

What debate were you watching. McCain showed his bracelet. It was the black colored one on his right arm as he lifted it up to show it. Obviously you are blind.

"Obama on defense the whole time."

Eh, eh. The Osama spinners, after the campaign speaches, said, "McCain was on the defense all night. He had to keep defending his record."

The messiah did quite well...???? I’m truly stunned.

And one of the so called independent sheeple on Fox said bambi didn’t stutter too!

And SHE was sober! (I guess. I mean at least HER speech wasn’t slurred or SHE didn’t stutter...but I can’t account for some underlying psychological disorder)

I seriously wonder if there’s an altenative universe!

OMG....BIDEN WAS IN TBLISI WHEN THE TANKS ROLLED IN he just told chris Wallace!!!!!!

And NOW he’s throwing our troops under the bus and saying THEIR surge didn’t work but it’s because of BIDEN and BAMBI saying the Iraqis are finally working together, this from the loon that wanted Iraq partitioned!

I think I need to start drinking again!

You are right...we are not going to reach these people. Waste of time. We have to keep the eye on the ball now. There has never been a more important time. We have to mobilize our own...make sure we know what to do and when. In Texas, we know when to clear the dead wood and strike when the iron’s hot. (I think I forgot a thing or two in that...oops!)

I imagine Uhbamuh is off somewhere trying to explain his performance to his puppet masters.

"I said what you told me to say and pronounced things like you asked. I even got the uh, uh, uh, mannerisms, is that how I say that, right." So that means I won, right?

The bracelet move was perhaps the tackiest move in debate history. Talk about dancing on a kid’s grave.

Pray for W, McCuda and Our Troops

The very interesting thing about that “I’ve got a bracelet too” line is that Obama implies that McCain’s bracelet is as cheesy and as much of a prepared political rejoinder as his in fact is..... he cheapens the whole idea of the bracelet, the war, and the sacrifice of soldiers....in one swift moment he reveals himself to be the empty-suit-wearing-a-bracelet that he is.

His hair looked about the same to me. But someone needed to tell Michelle that the dress with red flowers on a white background were never meant for that broad beam! An attractive dark color might mask a bit.

My take....

Style wise.....

Obama came off as very defensive and quiet frankly rude. He was always holding up a finger, and trying to get Jim to let him interrupt McCain. I thought as the debate went on, McCain had he kind of rocked back on his heels. Obama stammered a lot when he wasn’t parroting the same talking points over and over again. He can talk longer than anyone I have seen in a while, and not say anything of substance.

McCain came off as confident, poised, and articulate. Toward the end, he came off as so hearfelt when talking about the war, and the veterans.

Substance.....

McCain did pretty well in the first part of the debate on the economy. I would call it a draw. McCain did OK, but missed a chance to knock it out of the park. I think McCain was being careful on the current financial crisis because they still don’t have a bipartisan resolution yet. Once they get whatever bill passed, McCain is going to rip into the Dems and Obama on what they did to get us in this mess.

McCain got stronger as the debate went on and turned to foreign policy. Obama had his talking points and stayed with them. McCain actually knew what he was talking about here, because he has been there, and experienced it first hand. Obama showed he knew how to memorize stuff and repeat it back pretty effectively.

McCain hit it out of the park at the end. His comments about his actual experience, and that Obama is just not experienced to lead this country. The on the job training might be McCain’s soundbite takeaway.

As Fox said, there were 8 questions. McCain won 5 of those IMO. And 2-3 were probably ties.

Overall, McCain did well.

Sad because McCain did quite well maybe you were too nervous to hear or maybe Obama’s interruptions and his frequent “that’s not true” distracted you.
