As reports pile up of voter registration fraud connected to ACORN -- the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, a group that advocates for low-income voters – the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., has sought to downplay his past ties with the group.
But in their efforts to do, Obama campaign officials found themselves forced last week to correct an erroneous assertion made on the campaign’s “Fight the Smears” webpage that “Barack was never an ACORN trainer and never worked for ACORN in any other capacity.”
That wasn’t true.
In fact, ACORN spokesman Lewis Goldberg told the New York Times that Obama conducted two unpaid leadership training sessions for ACORN’s Chicago affiliate in the late 1990s.
The “Fight the Smears” website now asserts, "Fact: ACORN never hired Obama as a trainer, organizer, or any type of employee.”
Key word: hired.
Goldberg told the Times that Obama’s work for ACORN was unpaid.

Moreover, Obama also represented ACORN and other groups in the mid 1990s as an attorney suing the state of Illinois to uphold the federal Motor Voter law. The governor and other officials of the State of Illinois were refusing to comply with the law on the ground that it was unconstitutional.

Further confusing the length and depth of the Obama-ACORN relationship was the discovery by conservative bloggers of an error-riddled story in the journal Social Policy featuring not only a 2004 photograph of Obama and ACORN members but an essay called “Case Study: Chicago- The Barack Obama Campaign” written Toni Foulkes, a Chicago ACORN Leader.

As for McCain going after ACORN further, not sure that is going to happen. ACORN has a P.R. I just posted showing some of McCain’s history with them. McCain was suppose to do a live press conference this morning on ACORN. He didn’t do it. I’m wondering if the P.R. from ACORN was a shot across his bow.

You are soooo right, SOMEONE PLEASE CALL FRED THOMPSON, SEND HIM OUT THERE ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL TO RALLY THE CONSERVATIVES.... If there was EVER a time for us to come together it is NOW. We need to get EVERY CONSERVATIVE we know motivated to vote...we CANNOT LOOSE THIS ELECTION to Obama. I am baffled as to HOW people can be so blind as to the charachter of this man, he wont disclose medical records, school records, campaign donation records, he has associations to ACORN, Resco, Wright, Odinga,, Farrakan, Ayres, the list goes on, and on top of it, if he wins he will have to bow to Pelosi and Ried.....UGH...God Help Us !
I thought I read somewhere that Robert Blackwell worked with Obama on Project Vote; but I have to find that specific reference.
I might have heard that from Andy Martin too when we hosted him.
My recall is, Robert Blackwell and Obama were the people to go to to get into office. Blackwell had access to getting lists for votes.

McCain would probably never say “Barack, you lied” at the debate. But the facts are there. If he does not say 0bama was less than truthful, or disingenuous, or words to that effect, he will have lost the debate.

So being a volunteer makes it better? I figure hired folks don't have their hearts in the cause as much as those who volunteer. Volunteers really believe.
Tonight on Nightline expect a forum on the 1968 assassinations and how McCain-Palin are inciting violence against Barry.
