I Have Lost a Friend Over the Election

Posted on 10/29/2008 2:12:34 PM PDT by libertarian9

I have been an Independent for most of my life but this year I registered as a Republican.

A have a friend who I've known for 22 years. He is an Obama supporter.

He has ended our friendship because I am supporting McCain and not Obama.

He has gone so far as to say that I'm not the person he thought I was all these years. I am angry and sad and a little stunned.

Anyone else having similar experiences over the election?

More than likely its temporary. IF Obama wins they will be back, if he doesn’t will it might just take longer. It’s gotten go bad where I am that I refuse to talk politics with anyone I know. I have a friend that tell everyone he is undecided, even though he is voting for McCain.
The tolerant left is so intolerant of anyone that does not agree with them.

Us non-religious rightists in liberal areas are like the gays of old. We just need our own bars to hang out in.

Not this election. I lost all mine years ago, including some relatives. As I get older I chose not to waste my life on people who stand for nothing, which is usually liberals.

And no, I don’t miss them one bit.

Yup. However, a good friend of mine just registered with the GOP. She was a life-long Democrat when I met her. A High School Asst. Principal. It took chipping away at her daily for three years, for her to realize the Democrats left her, and another 3.5 to re-register. Her Daughter re-registered GOP at the same time— at a Dodgers game.

Both of them are being derided for their politics from family and friends.

He or she was not a friend to start with. I have a lot of acquaintances that are for Obama and I will treat them the same as always.I think Obama is the worse thing that could happen to America right now. I even think if he wins we will end up as a Communist country but until the time comes to fight I will treat them with respect as long as they treat me the same way.

I lost a good friend like that over the 1992 election. At first, I felt the same way you do now. But I suspect that soon you’ll come to find what I did — you really won’t miss him all that much.

For someone to end your friendship over Obama, well, he wasn’t much of a friend to begin with.

I have some friends/relatives who are all about Obama. One relative actually personally knows the Clintons well. I try to avoid talking politics at all costs and it usually works well. If the topic comes up, I change the topic of simply ignore it.

I was at a dinner last night with the Bible League, and there were a few tense moments when a relative of my daughter’s proudly proclaimed that she hoped Obama would win.

I informed her that he was a Marxist but that didn’t seem to phase her. Thankfully, another person at the table manages to listen to the same shows as me, and joined me in bringing all of the scary features of this smooth and deceitful character to light.

It was tense, and we’re Canadian! I imagine there have been many relationships affected by this. People really seem to have entered into some weird type of zealous religious mode when it comes to this guy. Very scary.

I would say that your friend has proven to you that he really wasn’t much of one...sorry to sound flippant.

My best man at my wedding hasn't spoke to me in 8 years because of the Bush/Kerry election and I have never been happier.

I will freaking disown family members over this election if I find out they vote for the 0bamanation. I am done assuming people who vote for Commies are stupid or uninformed.

So far the only family members or friends I know who will be voting 0bama don't live near me anyway and I never speak to them. I am prepared for my sister in law though and I will rip her lazy ass a new one if she wants to argue, and I will go nuclear.

My sister. She has Palin derangement syndrome and since I share her beliefs, I’m assuming she has as much dislike for me. She isn’t willing to hear anything other than what she believes to be true.

I am the laughing stock of my network of liberal friends and family in Michigan. I wear it with pride. Your friend is not a supporter of Obama but a follower. Hold your head high.

Sorry for your loss. But if this is his stance, you're better off.

As an aside, ask him what he truly wants out of life, what he wants for his family, then ask him how Obama can truly do that. I've had a few democrats tell me these things, then I point out that their views are more conservative than liberal. I also explain to them how today's democrat party is not what it used to be.

I still can't figure how union workers, not just the unions themselves, manage to vote dem all the time when they disagree on most positions from a personal stance.

He is just following his Messiah’s commandment to “get in the face” of his opponents.

Yeah, thats what I think, too.
