Top evangelical scholar: Many evangelicals appalled McCain chose Palin (MORON ALert)

Top evangelical scholar: Many evangelicals appalled McCain chose Palin

I recently asked John Stackhouse, an influential scholar on faith and politics at evangelical Regent College in Vancouver, what evangelicals are thinking about Sarah Palin. John, an author of many books and frequent contributor to Christianity Today, replied:

"Some evangelicals will support Sarah Palin because they are Republican. Some will identify with her class-wise (against "intellectuals," "snobs," etc.). Some will like her persona. And some will like her because she's prolife," Stackhouse said.

"Some are racists, of course, and that'll be that. But many evangelicals will not support Obama because he is not even moderately pro-life (versus, say, the Clintons) and because he is, indeed, inexperienced versus Senator McCain. Many moderate evangelicals will prefer Obama's politics to McCain's. Some will be turned off by the racism at some GOP events - and upset by Governor Palin's refusal to denounce them. But many, many evangelicals, I expect, are appalled (as I am) that Senator McCain would put the United States and, indeed, the world in the perilous position of having the inexperienced and, it appears, morally and intellectually suspect Governor Palin one heartbeat away from the U.S. presidency. It shows a dreadful lack of judgment--precisely what he is supposed to offer instead of the callow Obama. And for many, that'll be that."

Decorated... decorated... ?!?!?!

I'd call the use of that word with regard to "ethics and spirituality" a clear indication that everything following it is pure BS... /grin

Yes I am appalled: At how stupid "intellectual" evangelicals can be when they mouth inanities like this.

What a pile of cold instant grits! All the Christians I know (across denominational lines) are thrilled with Governor Sarah Palin and feel they can relate to her. This “top evangelical scholar” is about as Evangelical as Pelosi is Catholic.

I’ve pondered this off and on since you posted it.

I think I’m more convinced than ever . . .

1. Folks—Christians—who vote for Obama . . . are likely willfully blind and at least not focused sufficiently on God and HIS priorities, Nature, Will, Values, LIFE FOCUS. Therefore, they are in danger of forfeiting their Salvation, if they ever were saved.

2. Christians who construe Sarah Palin to be anything less than the Queen Esther God has raised up for such a time as this are likewise not remotely in tune with God and either already securely in satan’s camp or on a very steep slippery slide ending up there.

What a clueless article. I don’t care how many awards the character won etc. . . . he’s clueless on a very crucial issue in a very crucial time. It’s obvious Palin is the REAL DEAL—GENUINE, GOD CENTERED, PRIORITIES STRAIGHT; COMMON SENSE; BRIGHT; RIGHTEOUSLY TOUGH.

Besides that, close friends in Wasilla Alaska affirm that she’s the real deal.

I’m beginning to think that a lot more “Christians” running around loose are like 2000 years ago . . . white-washed tombs, sons of the devil, evil doers in Christian costumes.

Sheesh.

Palin is what brought the evangelicals on board.

Its amazing how dim a guy can be and still be considered an “expert”. Its like evangelicals are some kind of obscure tribe, and this guy is an anthropologist doing field studies.

This guy is no Evangelical... he is a satan worshiper. Palin is the most PRO LIFE candidate in the HISTORY of the US and anyone saying different cannot be of GOD.

How can Palin, claiming to be a conservative christian, be working 20 hour days 7 days a week when she has a baby, and one with special needs no less?

I doubt she's working anywhere near that much, but as VP she would have to be prepared for a heavy schedule including a great deal of travelling. And the baby-as-baggage-to-be-dragged-along is bad enough, but she also clearly hasn't been spending enough time providing guidance and supervision to her 17 year old daughter, and she's got a 14 year old who's getting the same skimpy parenting (and is likely to get pretty much the same results).

She looks to me like an example of the worst sort of radical feminism, in which the pesky matter of children isn't allowed to interfere with a woman's climb up the career ladder. Needless to say, if she was a left-winger who'd been picked as Obama's running mate, and had the identical family situation, conservatives would be howling at her irresponsible approach to motherhood.

Just for the record, Rick Warren endorsed McCain, specifically on the issue of life.

Why be appalled? I would think they would welcome a pro life candidate with strong morals that walks the walk.
