Recommended Gun List for Freepers (Vanity)
11/09/2008 | SoftwareEngineer

I would like to request that fellow Freepers help us non knowledgeable gun owners in recommending guns that we can buy before gun laws get changed. Many of us have only a basic semi automatic hand gun and have never given much thought to anything else.

However, before gun laws change I would like to complete my gun collection and even buy guns that I can leave to my children.

Maybe we can organize the recommendations as follows:

With all The Obamafuhrer has to do, I don’t think he’ll want to get in to a second amendment quagmire, it would stir the conservative base too much. And, it would take too long. I do think, however, he’ll just quietly put regulations on the manufacture, import, and sale of ammo of all kinds. Watch for that, and stock up on ammo. And keep your powder dry.

I personally just purchased, a P350 12 ga pump shotgun and the Cougar 8000f, both made by Stoeger (Bonnelli, Beretta), and are very dependable as well as affordable.

Both have received excellent reviews and come highly recommended.

I don’t have any clue about other states. However, here is Texas, we can get good choices in buying guns. We have good dealers and good gun shows. Once I have a good list, I am sure I will be able to get them within a month or two.

I have no idea what Mr. Obama’s administration will or will not do. However, I want to make sure, I have done all I can. Legally.

Thank you for that. Where did you read these reviews? A lot of the sites on the internet seem very unreliable when it comes to gun tests etc. It almost seems that they are fake review sites put up by the gun manufacturers or dealers.

I am not experienced enough to know which review sites are the genuine ones and which ones are not.

Greetings FrdmLvr, Did that last week and the ammo guy was swamped. Phones ringing, customers everywhere. Hey if Nobama makes it tough to get ammo, what good is an empty gun, right? Might as well carry a rock. From my cold dead hands...

At this point, anything that requires a magazine is probably too expensive. For handguns, I recommend a revolver and plenty of speedloaders. .38 is the minimum caliber, you want the most powerful cartridge you can fire accurately. I’m partial to Smith and Wesson, but some people still have grudges.

Shotguns: police like Remington 870s, the Marines prefer Mossberg 500 series. Both are good, but I’ve got a Mossberg.

And the SKS is the way to go for rifles. Cheap, reliable, and no magazines to get lost or damaged.

That’s what I’ve got, and what I recommend. Whatever you’ve got, PRACTICE.

You can’t beat a Remington 870 pump shotgun. Also—don’t underestimate the value of a good lever action rifle.

What do you want these for? Self-defense, target shooting, hunting? For example, a “high-end” target pistol might be a Smith&Wesson Model 41 .22, but you wouldn’t purchase that for self-defense. Knowing your intended use would make it easier for folks to give meaningful suggestions.

Not sure what you mean by “high end” necessarily, unless you just mean more expensive.

My personal picks are:

For the home - Winchester Model 1300 Defender 12 GA 2 3/4 / 3”. It’s a pump with an 18” barrel. I use 4shot ammo which tends to have a spread of about 8” at 20 feet with this setup. It was a gift but these are quite inexpensive and require little to no maintenance.

For the car - Full size Bersa Thunder 9mm semi-auto with hammer decock/safety combo easily accessible with the thumb. Can initiate firing with double action, after which it’s single, or chamber with the slide for starting single action. Ran me about $350 at Academy. I use regular Winchester hollowpoints.

I’m still looking for a good CHL semiauto in 9mm that doesn’t cost a fortune. Small frame guy needs a small frame gun.

I think it’s prudent to stock up on guns, and thank you for your list. Because that day will come when he bans guns. I just wanted to add my 2 cents that, with the cheating, slimey, calculating modus operendi favored by the Obamafurher, don’t be surprized if he does an end-run around the Constitution and bans ammo.
