OPEN LETTER TO BILL O'REILLY
Vanity ^ | Saturday, November 15, 2008 | Gargantua

Posted on 11/15/2008 6:51:17 AM PST by Gargantua

Hi Bill,

In your recent Townhall piece you posit that there are Republicans who feel that

Governor Palin is too unqualified to lead, so it's better for them if they maginalize

her now so they won't have to deal with her again in 2012.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Her assailants, from the Right and the Left (and the media..., ahem) have seen

what she has done in Alaska as Governor. Huge Oil Company lobbies shut down.

Oil revenues going into the hands of the voters. Powerful, entrenched "old boy network"

mavens gone, castrated, or in jail... Democrats and Republicans.

Palin's attackers have no misgivings about her ability to lead. They see what she's done

in just two years in the Great White North, and they are justifiably terrified. They watch her

draw 30,000 screaming rally-goers in the same city where Biden drew 400, and their

bowels loosen.

For one as astute as you to imply that their concern, for good or ill, is over her

qualifications or ability to lead... ...really only speaks to your own candor and integrity. You can fool

some of us some of the time, but you don't fool me with your subtle innuendo. And as for

Palin's public detractors; their redeeming speck is that they at least don't masquerade as a

spin-free impartial observer who is "looking out for me."

Standing in for your conscience

while it's on vacation,

(Name redacted for FR)
Warren, MA

The fascinating thing about the latest round of Palin bashing is John McCain's reaction. A day after the election, Fox News political correspondent Carl Cameron reported on my TV program that some anonymous McCain staffers were frustrated because Palin didn't know much about the world. The now famous accusation is that the governor did not even know that Africa is a continent.

Palin immediately denied it, and you would think McCain would have stopped that kind of vicious garbage in its tracks. But it took the senator six days before he publicly stuck up for her. So let me ask you something. If a friend of yours was being humiliated, would it take you six days to lend support?

I think he is not questioning whether Sarah knows anything about Africa, but rather, whether McCain is LETTING Sarah sink for some inexplicable reason.

I, too, want to know why the entire McCain family let this happen.

"I think that might be the first time I’ve heard the phrase “subtle innuendo” attached to The Great Bloviator."

LOL.

Actually, his loudmouth bluster is the distraction, designed to focus your attention so that you tend to miss the subtle twisting of the truth hidden in his verbal shi*storm.

Like the shell game operator who draws your attention with a grand flourish of the right hand, while his left hand steals your wallet.

O’Reilly is too dumb to bother with on his best days. I haven’t turned his show on in years. I can just about hear him telling folks things like, “Well, if the Consitution (or the Bible) doesn’t say x,y,z, it SHOULD”. Expensive suits wrapped around the brain, soul and character of a gnat.

Look, I get very angry with O'Reilly, but I'm really not sure what you are criticizing in this article.

O'Reilly continues: As for McCain, my colleague Juan Williams believes he just didn't care enough to step up and defend his running mate. He lost, he's resigned, that's that. It's impossible to read anyone's mind, but McCain demonstrated the same lack of urgency in dealing with the Palin-bashers that he did throughout the campaign: There's an economic crisis in this country. Did you get the feeling McCain understood that?

He winds up the column by coming to Sarah's defense: It's impossible to ascertain exactly why Palin continues to get hammered, but fair-minded Americans surely know that it is unnecessary and mean-spirited. This time, enough really is enough.

I wonder if everyone else on this thread bothered to even read the column?

What in this column is supportive of Obama? He is supportive of Sarah here and bashing some Republican insiders.

I knew you lurked here, O'reilly, I just wasn't sure if you actually posted. Thanks for clearing that up, Billy. You Bold, Fresh Piece Of Sh!t.

Yet the people that complain about BOR are the ones that every night watch him and support his advertisers. He reminds me of a local talk show host (DFW) who talks down to his listeners instead of with them. They both believe in the superiority of their intellect. Answer: don't watch, don't listen.

Jeff Head,

Exactly what did O'Reilly say in this column that does not DEFEND Sarah? Was it the final paragraph?

O'Reilly: It's impossible to ascertain exactly why Palin continues to get hammered, but fair-minded Americans surely know that it is unnecessary and mean-spirited. This time, enough really is enough.

"She accomplished more in a few short weeks in that regard on the national stage than other politicians have in a life time..."

Ain't that the truth! Just think about it for a minute: Obama is virtually annointed by the media, shoved down our gullets for 2 YEARS by every tv station, magazine, newspaper and talking head political expert under the sun, is praised as the "hypnotic new messiah..."

...and then fresh off his acceptance speech at the DNC convention (which should have been his ultimate triumph at the time!), he gets BLASTED into oblivion for a month by the mere appearance of Sarah Palin.

Talk about putting the fear of God into the puppetmasters who like to feel in control!

Holy crap. I never even thought what she did was possible! She is AMAZING.

Have you noticed that no-one bashing O’Reilly on this thread actually refers to any specific sentence in the column?

I put little credibility into him anymore. He has an agenda.

Conservatives need to get over the "agenda" word. Everyone has an agenda. You have an agenda. I have an agenda. Bill O'R has an agenda.

Yeah, I hear you, but this guy’s letter and BOR’s premise was all about knockin’ her out before she even started. In my mind, she’s got four years to go through the process ;-)

I was commenting on O’Reilly’s support of Obama (which is what the post I responded to was about).

what?

Oreily is a first class idiot.

He has only RINOs on as if they are conservatives.

Oreily never left his “current affair” tv show media whoring.

I just pay he gets some SERIOUS competition from a real conservative.

Oreily’s milque tost MSM buffooner is useless for conveying real information.

You may well be right there. For me personally, I turned all these talk radio and TV guys off after my heart attack in March ‘07. I found all the endless, pointless blather to be about as useful as taking phone calls from my ex-wife. It can’t change a damned thing except my stress levels. With the ex, I figure if she’s seriously got some complaint, she can call a lawyer not me. With the talk radio, I figure I’ll find out soon enough when and if the shooting starts. Until then, I’ve got other things to do. I do turn on talk radio late at night if I’m coming home from a gig or something but that’s to see if I can catch an interview with someone who’s been abducted by aliens, but, even then, they sound so much like my ex-wife that I can’t listen for long.
