Why does Sarah Palin continue to receive so much media coverage? Peggy Noonan has a theory. The Wall Street Journal columnist believes the MSM is up to what she considers "mischief": attempting to make Sarah Palin the face of the Republican party.
Noonan propounded her premise during an appearance today on Morning Joe.

No, Peggy, the mischief is in giving you and Kathleen Whatsherface a soap box to criticize Sarah Palin.
I'm perfectly serious about this. It is a blatant attempt to dictate the boundaries of their political opposition, with the result, if successful, that anyone outside that little circle of approval may safely be dismissed as some sort of extremist without the MSM being forced seriously to consider his or her views. It is an attempt to control the norm.
This sort of thing very rarely succeeds in the face of a large enough popular movement a la Ronald Reagan but it can be successful in nipping such a movement in the bud before it becomes unstoppable. That is precisely what is going on here. Noonan is, wittingly or otherwise, a part of it. It is her face that is acceptable to the liberals in the MSM as representative of the GOP because they know they own her. For whatever her strengths or liabilities, they do not own Sarah Palin. That's why they're nervous, and for very good reason.
...and if this is the case, it will insure a second term for Obama!

Voters are not changing what they look at to conform with any of our wishes. Elected/running Republicans need to learn to sell ideas, and in many cases they need sellable ideas.
Palin is hard to judge fairly because she was second on a ticket where the top McCain was crappy, and he needed a boost from her. She still had to conform with his crappy campaign strategy and handlers, a campaign strategy that changed every few weeks. All while the media thought it critical to bring her down, she did challenge them to do so in her kickoff speech.
Palin 2012 is just as ridiculous a proposition as Quayle 1996 would have been. My Democrat friends are salivating at an Obama v. Palin matchup. It would be the final nail in the GOP’s coffin. We need to throw the net far and wide to find a viable candidate, but we also need to nominate someone who has not become a national laughing stock. And if you don’t think that she has become a laughing stock then you surely don’t live where the bulk of the votes are. She may play to the base, but she can’t bring the votes necessary to win.
In the beginning of his rise the only people who loved him were the hard core base. And we loved him because of the one salient point that we knew in our deep heart....he was "true" to his principles....the one politician who you knew what his stand would be BEFORE HE SPOKE....and that is what we feel about SP.....sure she needs a little seasoning....BUT WE KNOW WHERE SHE STANDS BEFORE SHE SPEAKS.....she embodies our principles and our deep love for this country, just as RR did......A leader connects with his people in a mysterious way that is hard to explain....all I know is that RR connected with me then the same way that SP connects with me now.
God could drop a great blessing on your door step, and you would reject it because it is raining outside.
Just how blind are you ? Palin is not a national laughing stock. This is a team and Sarah is our best player. We owe her the nomination. We better be loyal to her, or we do not deserve any future success.
and I will make sure to do my part to undermine anyother candidate that gets in her way. and any other RINO candidate that gets the nomination.

What issues are you in disagreement with Gov Palin? And can that "cult of Sarah" canard. Same thing was/is said about those admirers of Reagan.

Oh utter BS! I cast my very first vote for Ronald Reagan. No one I knew was so out of touch that they were promising to undermine any candidate who dared challenge the anointed one, as sparky just did in the post you replied to.
We were behind Reagan because we thought he could lead us out of the hall of shame that Carter had led us into, and we were right, he did. We did not worship the man as some sort of demigod who's primary opponents were the physical manifestation of blaspheme against our one man religion. There is ZERO similarity between the Palin phenomenon and Reagan's ascendancy.

And if Peg really thinks this is a bad thing...well, there’s clearly a reason the Reagan Administration paid her to do the speeches and other folks to do the deep political thinking.

The fact is — and I say this as a Palin fan and well-wisher, someone who looks forward with optimism towards her rise in the party — she was not as nimble in conversation as either McCain or Obama. The fact is, McCain was VERY good at coming up with direct responses to direct questions that were either base hits or home runs, and Obama was almost as good. As much as I liked Palin — and I do, and I did from the start — I found myself wincing when she tried to “field” a question. She’s got a long way to go before she’s ready for the big leagues but she’s got the time to get there.
By the way, when I praised McCain just now, I must temper that praise by saying that his ability to talk directly to the question at hand was crippled by his severe and debilitating case of BiPartisanshipism Uber Alles. This is what killed McCain. This is what made him an on-balance luke-lousy senator and this is what made him a disaster as a presidential candidate. But he could parry if he wanted to. As can Obama.
Palin, as yet, can’t.
