Dear FReepers and friends.
I am in need of prayers. I planned this trip to Chicago several weeks ago. A week ago Monday my mother became short of breath and was taken to the ER at her hospital. They kept her overnight and could find nothing wrong. She's 74 and has been smoking all her adult life.
They told us it was the onset of emphysema. Last Friday she had another episode and was taken to another hospital where she was diagnosed with double pneumonia. She has been in the hospital since.
I arrived with my two sons yesterday and I went to see her. She looked terrible to me but I sat with and held her and stroked her hair and told her I loved her.
Today they did an angiogram and found a 95% percent blockage in one of the arteries in her heart. They tried to put a stent in but for some reason could not. Now they have put her on a list for open heart surgery.
Yesterday after I left her I called my wife who had to stay in CT and told her the I felt that my mother would not survive this event. I don't know why but that's what I thought yesterday. She had been doing a lot better but to me, seeing her like that was heartbreaking.
I would like to ask for the help of the forum. I really need your prayers for the next few days. They have not scheduled the surgery and are thinking of putting it off till Friday.
I am staying at my sister's house and have limited access to the net. I will check back and keep everyone posted when I can.
Thanks in advance for the prayers.

Dear FRiends. The end is near. I spoke to my sister moments ago and my mom is now DNR. She has been suffering and struggling and it is the time to say goodbye. She is ready to move on to the Lord and find peace and happiness in the care of Jesus. It is so hard for me to sit here and wait. My sister, father and brother have been through so much and we are all ready for that time when she decides to let go of us and this earth and make her way to heaven. They now say she has lung cancer. On top of everything else we know that she is suffering. It is time. Thank you all for being here for me and my family. Here are some pics of my mother and father at their wedding. Pray for her peace and a new beginning in the arms of the Lord. Thank you all. Ray And, my dads favorite...
Prayers are continuing for your mom. Also praying for your dad; I’m sure he feels he needs to take care of her. God bless him.
I’m also saying a prayer for you and your sis.
Prayers still being said.
..very touching.
May God keep your mother in His protective and comforting embrace, and for your father, yourself and family. Dear Lord extend your Mercy and Grace to this good woman and her family.
More prayers to follow. Keep an eye out for the post-surgical infections.
Prayers continue....
May the good Lord wrap his arms around your parents and your family and ease any pain.
How your Mom must feel with all those tubes...my heart aches for her. I hate hospitals. Thank God she has all of you to watch out for her, and to care.
I do so hope that all turns out well.
One sentence of advice though...it's very important, too: Keep reminding your Mom of what she CAN do, not what she can't. People in hospitals or as they begin to recover, just can't see the positives/their accomplishments. Those that are helping them need to remind them of their progress---even the most TINY accomplishments. (Mom...that's great, remember...you couldn't do that yesterday--you're getting better. *** Remember three days ago, when you couldn't _____ - see how you can do that now? You ARE getting better...little by little...that's how you do it - I'm so proud of you.)
still praying for you all...
Thank you that is a beautiful summary of the love between you all. It has been exactly a year since my husband of 50 years had his double bypass. Your mother has a few more hurdles to overcome but I pray that she is able to do it. God Bless you all.
Prayers are being said.
Thank God you are there for your mom and dad! And thank you for keeping us informed. Prayers continue...
It’s really hard when you have to comfort your father who has always comforted you. You did so well! My Dad (older than your Mom and diabetic) under went a triple a little over a year ago. He feels and looks better now than he has in years. Have hope and faith. I’m still praying along with many others.
I've gone through two of those surgeries with loved ones...it's NOT easy on the family. My heartfelt prayers for ALL of you!!!!!!
Dear Ray... I am praying for your mother, your father, and your whole family at this hard time in your lives. God is on his throne ... all will be well.
Prayers for you and your family.
You and yours are in my Prayers.
Prayers up for your mother and for you.
...And prayers for your father and the rest of the family, too.
