“.Don’t you think that alone is telling and why comparing the red and blue states does not work out exactly what people believe.”

The biggest problems with red and blue economic comparisons is that it ignores a definitive point. Many/most of the folk bringing whatever prosperity the blue state has are red voters, the minority. Most of the folk spending/wasting that money are blue voters.

This study is not a very good indicator in that it does not appear to address business taxation and consumer fees. Under Granholm, Michigan has increased business taxes substantially. Also, to increase revenue, but still be able to claim she did not raise personal taxes, she raised fees on everything. It costs twice as much to get plates on your car each year than it used too.

NV and FL are LOW tax states. This analysis HIDES the TRUE State Income Tax burdens in CA , Oregon, Ill, NY , WI , and other lefty states with huge state income tax.
This is a typical left wing analysis by the CNN lefties who own Money magazine.

—They surround themselves with NVA types who are nearly as bad as the elitists on the left.—

What is “NVA”? To me, NVA is the old American acronym for North Vietnamese Army (which I guess is now just Vietnamese Army), or the German acronym for East German Armed Forces (which don’t even exist anymore). Does it mean something like “RINO.”? Just wondering.

Your sales tax is quite high

Actually, that's not true.

Clark County has the highest rate in Nevada, 7.75% which is lower than several states. Other Counties are as low as 6.5%. I know because I have to collect sales tax.

There is no state income tax, you can even buy a car from a private party and there is no tax.

Nevada is still one of the more "friendlier" states to be in, even for business.

That was my conclusion, even if my facts were off.

California sales tax at 7.3%? Maybe in a low population county. Most counties are over 8%.

Maine is 5% for purchases but 7% for lodging and restaurants.

So far anyway...this state will probably turn into a rat hole soon as all of the "ingredients" are moving in :(

I don’t understand your post. Are you saying it is illegal to live in Washington and shop in Oregon?

—Yeah, but that is illegal.—

I guess all those people in MA who shop in NH are breaking the law, then? Even the shopping malls on the MA side of the RI/MA border do well, because of all the Rhode Islanders who save 2 percent on sales tax. Have I broken the law because of all the things I purchase from Amazon (NO sales tax)?

I wish the article listed the states in order from worst to best. I would like to know how my state fares.

Hey Now! I did fly through O’Hare this year and that $10 per take off and landing was paid without me knowing, until you told me that is.

Hidden taxes! They are everywhere. My guess is that 60 percent of my income goes to a tax of some kind. It might even be more. The gov’t is so good at hiding what we really pay them.

Well, Wisconsin is a tax hell, has been for a long time, but at least we are only ranked #7. Hard to believe it is worse in other states. I advise only visiting WI, not living here. The libs are intolerable. I can see why retirees bug outta here for low tax states. The older I get the more resentful I am of our high taxes, property taxes are very burdensome. It is robbery what they take from us just in property taxes.

“I don’t understand your post. Are you saying it is illegal to live in Washington and shop in Oregon?”

Yes, You make a major purchase, say a car, boat or plane, you have to register it and pay the sales tax of the county where you reside (King County it is 8.8%)

The law applies to all purchases in OR and is covered by Sales Tax in WA, even those from an Indian reservation.

On line is not covered yet.

However if you operate a business then any purchases you make that are resold or used in the manufacturing process in WA or anywhere else you have to pay Sales tax on(I think this is new in 2008. then there is the B&O tax on top of that.

Don't tell me your a crook tax evader :-/.

Presumptuous to assume that from my legitimate question. But thanks for the information.

How can Alaska have no income tax and no sales tax? Where do they get income to run things? From the oil companies?

New Hampshire is the same way, but they neglect to mention the toll roads, which can cost an average citizen upwards of $1000 per year, just for traveling to work. They get all of us...one way or another.

Alaska will stay with the Union - we fought hard to become a State 50 years ago.

If we could get rid of the Greenie law suits, we might even be able to work. THis laast week Shell closed all drilling efforts and laid off hundreds - thanks to the Center for Biological DIversity and Alasla Unemployment.

Even IF you belive the crap on GW, why should Alaska bear 100% of the downside? Calif produces far more pollution than AK - go after them....

Vermont is #1, Maine is #2, New Hampshire is #49.

See what I'm talking about?
