Well, if they don’t even know how to spell ‘duchess’ any more, maybe they should just give it up.

My sister and I were asked to be debutantes(not the one in the article) and we turned them down. Nothing against them; it’s just not our cup of tea.

Made my father a very happy man. He saved a lot of money and my mother didn’t really care either.

There was one daughter of a famous blogger: Christina Sophia Huffington, whose mother, Arianna Huffington, is co-founder of Huffingtonpost.com.

A debutante’s family pays $14,000 for a table plus thousands of dollars for couture gowns, hairdressers and other expenses.

“It used to be that if you weren’t at least engaged within the year following your debut you were embarrassed,” said Letitia Baldrige, the etiquette author who was Jacqueline Kennedy’s White House social secretary. “Your family sent you abroad to get rid of you for a while.”

At least this is a legit ‘debutante’ buy your way in with your old or new money. I was a Candy Striper in HS (volunteering at a local hospital as a pre-curser to going to nursing school). There was a ‘Medallion’ Ball same idea as this...but hitched (at least back in the 70/80s) to volunteering. It was kinda hurtful to learn that some ‘volunteers’ were more equal than others (those that got the Ball thing).

Anyway...I am not bitter or anything...Obama can’t ‘read me’...I mean I only turned bitter over the clinging, to my religion and guns...this election cycle, right? Did it start back then? Oh noes...I am going to need online help...Obama save me!

(PaMom collapses in a heap...sobbing over missed party dresses and upstyled hairdos. Oh, the hugh manatee!)

How “wealthy” does a family have to be to participate in these debuts? Just curious, since debuts are not something people do where we live.
