Prez Obama closing Gitmo: 9/11 families object; terrorist attacks likely
911FamiliesForAmerica.org ^ | September 22, 2009 | Tim Sumner

Over the objections of a large majority of 9/11 family members, President Barack Obama is expected to sign an Executive Order today directing that the detention facilities at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base be closed:

Relatives of victims of the September 11 attacks, who were at the base this week to observe pretrial hearings, told reporters they oppose any halt to the trials. "The safest place to have these trials is Guantanamo Bay. If they were to move to the homeland it would endanger all of us," said Lorraine Arias Believeau of Barnegat, New Jersey, whose brother, Adam, was killed in the attacks.

In addition, President Obama has directed a 120-day suspension of detainee trials so that, "...his administration [can] review the military commissions process..." and will order the closure of all overseas "C.I.A. prisons." On January 14, 2009, the Washington Times reported, "The Pentagon is looking at several military bases in the U.S. as possible sites to hold terrorist suspects now at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, including Camp Pendleton in San Diego and Fort Leavenworth in Kansas."

Debra Burlingame is skeptical about President Obama's stated intent and whether he believes Guantanamo can be safely closed within one year. She offers that the detainees are far more dangerous than Obama imagined prior to being read-in on their classified files. Yesterday, she discussed this with Neil Cavuto [video report].

But how dangerous is the average detainee at Guantanamo? Listen to Gordon Gucullu. Beginning in 2005, he made five trips to Guantanamo, spent 3 1/2 years researching the facility, and embedded with our troops there. He starts out by describing the frequent attacks made by the Islamic jihadist detainees there upon our troops:

The Wall Street Journal weighed in this morning:

One suggestion is moving the remaining prisoners to Kansas's Fort Leavenworth, but state politicians are already sounding a red alert. The military base is integrated into the community and, lacking Guantanamo's isolation and defense capacities, would instantly become a potential terror target. Expect similar protests from other states that are involuntarily entered in this sweepstakes.

The New York Times did its ritual dance of joy this morning. As expected, after it has once again endangered American lives through a successful propaganda campaign, it paraded the closing as the main headline this morning [Red Square emphasis added mine]. For the benefit of those non-Times readers, it also does this whenever it reveals America's classified secrets:

Lastly, Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) announced that he'd take the detainees:

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said he would take the detainees in his own district, which lies just a few miles from the field near Shanksville, Pa., where United Flight 93 crashed after it was hijacked by terrorists on Sept. 11, [murdering all 40] people aboard.

"Sure, I'd take them. They're no more dangerous in my district than in Guantanamo," Murtha said, calling the Guantanamo prison a "sore in the United States' moral standards."

"There's no reason not to put them in prisons in the United States and handle them the way they would handle any other prisoners."

Congressman Murtha offered no opinion on the morality of willfully endangering his constituents in Pennsylvania's 12th District.

The biggest success the terrorists have had in years was the election of Zero.

Close Gitmo, no waterboarding, or probably even harsh talk toward prisoners, decreased surveillance, closing foreign CIA prisons, and most likely prosecution of anti-terrorist interrogators.

It is Vince Flynn’s new book “Extreme Measures” in real life. How very sad.

Symbolism over substance...

What is the point of closing down ANY prison??? -NONE, except symbolism.
-”See? we’ve closed down dat bad ol’ nasty pwison of ours! We’re really good guys all you Muslim terrorist countries!”

The only result in closing a prison will be that more criminals will be out loose to commit CRIME and TERRORISM.

Along with the pre-9/11 Taliban-lovingm ‘More Peace Tomorrows’ crowd, they comprise a total of 31 family members who want due process and habeas corpus right for the Islamic terrorists that murdered their family members (and mine). And they joined the ACLU and Constitional Center for Rights in calling for Guantanamo’s closure.

And that's why I think they will be "Willie Horton-ed" by Zero The Magnificent.

Not to worry. John Murtha (D-PA) has volunteered to have the terrorists come to PA, where there is a “minimum security prison” for their incarceration.
Pennsylvanians must be so proud that they elected this genius to represent them in Congress.

IS MURTHA REALLY THAT STUPID???

And I think we could change the likely to a terrorist attack is CERTAIN to happen. When that chopper took off with W On it, these sickosnd all the groups that support terrorists were celebrating. Then they went back to planning the next attack on our soil.

So go ahead John. Accept the Gitmo prisoners. Then go ahead and figure out how much more dangerous things will be.....

If we bring them here, then they have a constitutional right to be released on bail.

I say push them out the gate right into Cuba.
Let them figure out what to do with them.

Close Gitmo and all such U.S. prisons world-wide, go handcuff the CIA, go completely soft on terrorism and wait for an attack, at which time martial law will be declared and the coup will have been completed.

I'll narrow that down a bit to Pennsylvanians from PA's 12th Congressional District. I couldn't legally vote for or against him.

Hillary might well remember a lesson that Obama was too stoned to notice. When Fidel Castro dumped out his prisons, and sent psychotic criminals to float north, the Mariel Boat Lift contained these dangerous individuals.

After committing crimes in the US, the worst of the worst wound up in a federal prison in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. There was a prison riot the likes of which had not been seen, and the ensuing bad press of the incident was one of the factors that led to Bill Clinton's only defeat in a general election.

I'm suspecting she still remembers it, and knows that it's fraught with danger. The current mealy-mouthed ramblings from Zero on the subject are his way of mollifying the moonbat fringe who wants the Gitmo detainees set free so they can testify in Congressional hearings that the libs hope will lead to the conviction and imprisonment of most of the Bush Administration that was connected with the war.

Why the hell would Zero care about what the victim’s families think?

He cares more about payback for his left-wing lunatic allies than he does for Americans who’ve suffered from terrorism.

Several lawyers from white shoe law firms have already said they would request bail for their “clients” should the detainees be brought to the United States.

One of the family members, a nice man from NJ who was a teen during WWII, was discussing this with Bill Hemmer this morning...he was heartbroken. I was screaming at the TV.

And Al Queda has millions of dollars hidden here that can be accessed to get these terrorists out on the streets. Our streets.

These people are in Gitmo because they are willing to blow themselves up to kill Americans. Now we are going to bring them to America and release them to become Martyrs for Osama.

Bush spent the last 7 years doing everything in his power to keep this country safe from terrorism. Obama's first official act as President is to undo all that Bush has done.
