South Bend, IN -- Bishop John M. D'Arcy who oversees the part of Indiana that includes the University of Notre Dame says he will not attend the Catholic college's commencement because it invited pro-abortion President Barack Obama. The president will be receiving an honorary doctorate and speaking to graduates.
The decision by Notre Dame to invite Obama and UNF president John Jenkins decision to defend the invitation has sparked national outrage within the pro-life Catholic community. . .

BRUSSELS, March 24, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A proposed new directive from the European Commission (EC) will drastically restrict the use of animals in laboratory testing, and certain toxicology tests on animals will be permitted only after alternative methods, including research on tissue taken from human embryos, has proved fruitless, reports the Catholic Herald.
In its coverage of the issue, the Herald quotes a report accompanying the EC directive that says, "The establishment of human embryonic stem cells in 1998 raised hopes in many research areas, including the development of alternatives to animal experiments." The report says that human embryonic research is a "powerful alternative to animal tests."
The directive instructs member states to adopt "the 3Rs principles: Replacement, Reduction and Refinement" to animal testing. If the directive is approved by MEPs next month it will be binding on all 27 EU member states.

A Turning Point in the Culture War
From March 25, 2005 (WorldNetDaily)

Terri Schiavo's medical condition is in dispute, she left no living will, we don't know her present wishes, and yet the courts are ordering that her husband has the right to kill her? This outrage simply couldn't happen in a culture that considered human life sacred.
"Objection," you say. "The courts are exhibiting their ultimate respect for life by carrying out the wishes of a person to terminate her own life and die with dignity."

Have you got the picture of the young boy being arrested for trying to take Terri a bottle of water? I can’t seem to locate it.

Today was Day 9 of Judge George W. Greer's court ordered slow death by starvation and dehydration of Terri Schindler Schiavo. Over the next two weeks we will post stories of the events that occurred on each of those days. We offer this not only in respect for Terri's memory, but a reminder that in this moment countless people are suffering slow, agonizing deaths in hospice, nursing homes, and hospitals in America and around the world.
From March 26, 2005 (FBW)
Standing with her family before reporters Good Friday evening, Terri Schiavo's mother sent a terse plea to Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (pictured) urging him to intervene to save her daughter's life.
"Gov. Bush, you have the power to save my daughter. It's been seven days, please do something," Mary said stoically in a very brief statement outside the Pinellas Park hospice where her daughter is now in her eighth day of being starved and dehydrated per a court order which was enacted March 18.

Abortion clinics are to be allowed to advertise on television and radio for the first time.
Condom manufacturers will also be permitted to broadcast advertisements at any time of the day or night.
At present they are banned from advertising before the 9pm watershed except on Channel 4, where the cut-off is 7.30pm.
The proposals by the Advertising Standards Authority will give Britain among the world's most liberal broadcasting regimes on sexual health services.
The watchdog claims it is responding to Government calls for action to combat rising teenage pregnancy. . .

In our youth, some of us may have been awarded honor roll car stickers that gave us great pride. Others might have marched in a St. Patricks Day parade proudly displaying our Irish heritage. One bioethicist, Jacob Appel, wants to take prideful behavior to a new level with his call for an Abortion Pride Movement.
Appel, an Ivy League-educated lawyer and medical historian, recently wrote that the moment is ripemore than ripefor an Abortion Pride Movement. He believes such a movement is necessary because women should feel comfortable expressing public pride in their brave and wise choices. Along with glorifying abortion, Appel has in the past contemplated a market for the fetal organs of abortion victims. With Appel having such radical beliefs, it is truly laughable that he is a bioethicist. . .
11 Blessed are ye when they shall revile you, and persecute you, and speak all that is evil against you, untruly, for my sake: 12 Be glad and rejoice, for your reward is very great in heaven. For so they persecuted the prophets that were before you. 13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt lose its savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is good for nothing any more but to be cast out, and to be trodden on by men. 14 You are the light of the world. A city seated on a mountain cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but upon a candlestick, that it may shine to all that are in the house.

If you think the pro-life movement has run out of energy and new ideas, you should meet Lila Rose. You may not know her name, but you very likely have seen the media coverage of her various sting operations at Planned Parenthood clinics around the country.
Rose is 20 years old, but she is already entering her fourth year of covert operation, as it were, exposing the underhanded -- and, in some cases, potentially illegal -- practices at abortion clinics run by Planned Parenthood. She has already made appearances on The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity's America.
Posing as an underage pregnant girl, Rose has taken concealed audio and video equipment into these clinics. First, she makes sure the clinic personnel know she is underage and that the baby's father is an older man, repeating his name clearly. By law, the clinic personnel must then notify the police that the alleged father has had sex with a minor.
But in every case, the counselors at Planned Parenthood have brushed aside the sexual abuse of a minor and failed to contact the police. The Arizona attorney general recently opened an investigation of a Tucson Planned Parenthood clinic based upon Rose's footage. . .

Wichita, KS (LifeNews.com) -- Attorneys for late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller finished questioning witnesses on Thursday as both sides prepare to present their closing arguments tomorrow. The case involves 19 charges against Tiller for allegedly violating the state's laws regulating law-term abortions.
~snip~
Tiller admitted that he profited financially by Neuhaus consulting with his patients. He estimated that he did 250-300 post-viability abortions in 2003 at an average cost of $6,000. He said that without Neuhaus' help, he would not have been able to do those abortions.
He told the court that his overhead is 62% of the fees generated by his clinic. His salary is 38% of the gross income of his clinic. Tiller never said how much money he made from abortions prior to viability.
"Doing the math, Tiller personally made at least $684,000 killing viable babies in 2003, and we don't know how much he made killing non-viable babies," said Newman. "But we do know it would be a huge blow to the Tiller income if he were unable to do the late-term abortions for lack of a second Kansas referring physician."

Missouri Choose Life License Plate Gets Favorable Appeals Court Ruling
Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) -- A federal appeals court has issued a decision agreeing with a lower district court ruling upholding the right of Missouri residents to purchase Choose Life license plates for their vehicles. The proceeds from the sales of the plates will fund pregnancy centers that help women avoid abortions.

Alliance Defense Fund senior legal counsel Joel Oster appeared before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit to argue for the plates. Pro-life organizations shouldn't be discriminated against for their beliefs, said Oster. Rejecting Choose Lifes participation in the specialty license plate program just because government officials in high places object to the message is simply unconstitutional.

Obamas first judicial nominee blocked Indiana abortion (consent) law
Washington D.C., Mar 27, 2009 / 04:04 am (CNA).- President Barack Obamas first judicial nominees record includes judicial decisions which obstructed the enforcement of Indianas informed consent law requiring women to be told the risks of abortion.
President Obama on March 17 nominated Judge David Hamilton to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal. He is presently U.S. District Chief Judge for the Southern District of Indiana.
Over his seven years as a district judge, Judge Hamilton ruled against the Indiana informed consent law which required abortionists to inform women about the risks of abortion. The Indiana law was identical to a Pennsylvania statute upheld by the Supreme Court.
Judge Hamilton claimed the law imposed an undue burden on a womans ability to obtain an abortion.
The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeal reversed Judge Hamiltons decision on appeal, and strongly criticized his decision as an abuse of discretion.
Critics have also reported that in 2005 Judge Hamilton ordered the Speaker of the Indiana House to stop the delivery of sectarian prayers at the opening of the legislation. The judge ordered that the prayers should refrain from using Christs name or title.
