History's oldest hatred
Boston Globe ^ | 3/11/09 | Jeff Jacoby

ANTI-SEMITISM is an ancient derangement, the oldest of hatreds, so it is strange that it lacks a more meaningful name. The misnomer "anti-Semitism" - a term coined in 1879 by the German agitator Wilhelm Marr, who wanted a scientific-sounding euphemism for Judenhass, or Jew-hatred - is particularly inane, since hostility to Jews has never had anything to do with Semites or being Semitic.

Perhaps there is no good name for a virus as mutable as anti-Semitism. "The Jews have been objects of hatred in pagan, religious, and secular societies," write Joseph Telushkin and Dennis Prager in "Why the Jews?," their classic study of anti-Semitism. "Fascists have accused them of being Communists, and Communists have branded them capitalists. Jews who live in non-Jewish societies have been accused of having dual loyalties, while Jews who live in the Jewish state have been condemned as 'racists.' Poor Jews are bullied, and rich Jews are resented. Jews have been branded as both rootless cosmopolitans and ethnic chauvinists. Jews who assimilate have been called a 'fifth column,' while those who stay together spark hatred for remaining separate."

There was Jew-hatred before there was Christianity or Islam, before Nazism or Communism, before Zionism or the Middle East conflict. This week Jews celebrate the festival of Purim, gathering in synagogues to read the biblical book of Esther. Set in ancient Persia, it tells of Haman, a powerful royal adviser who is insulted when the Jewish sage Mordechai refuses to bow down to him.

Ah, that explains why the Muslims are so exercised about what they think is the image of Queen Esther on the Starbucks cups.

I mean, it's completely demented, but if your brain is doused in Islam then an image redolent of Purim would be objectionable.

‘The first wave of anti-Semitism in the east was spread much later in the Persian Empire by the vizier, Haman, “the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.” Haman, who was the seed of Agog, the Amalekite, conspired to destroy the Jewish population in Persia and Media.’

I used to wonder about the term “anti-Semitism” as related to Jews. “Semites” include not only Jews but Arabs and Palestinians.

Why do the heathen rage? The Jews are Gods Chosen People and when they harm/kill the Jews, they are killing God. It is a great controversy from the time Lucifer declared “I will make myself like the Most High”.

Anti-Semitism, or Jew-hatred, like hatred for anyone due to their heritage or religion is a terrible thing, and should be condemned wherever it is found. However the superstician that an individual, just by virtue of his ancestry, is chosen, and therefore special--is just that, a superstician.

The Church universal--that is from all denominations, languages, nations, and peoples are God's Chosen people, not those who happen to have a certain genetic inheritance.

"For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham's children. On the contrary, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned. In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring." (Romans 9:6-8)

"Consider Abraham: 'He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.' Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: 'All nations will be blessed through you.' So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. (Galatians 3:6-9)

"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." ; (Galatians 3:26-29)

"And do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham." (Jesus Christ in Luke 3:8)

It’s a hatred of G-d.

Jewish people are just tangible proxies.

German journalist Wilhelm Marr coined the word Antisemitism in the last quarter of XIX century and he also founded the “League of Antisemites”, an organization committed specifically to combating the alleged threat to Germany and German culture posed by the Jews and their influence, and advocating their forced removal from the country. The word was enthusiastically used as a kind of enlighten substitution to more crude “Jew-hating”.

Arabs were never in the picture. Its true that they are semites and Arabic language is a semitic language.

It does not change the fact that the term anti-Semitism was created and used against Jews. To bring Arabs as “other semites” is one of the favorite ploys of anti-semites with a specific goal to obfuscate the picture and confuse people who only begin to read on the subject.

Yes to the first part. No to the second. The oldest hatred is of the guy that got a better result then you did.

“French Jesuit, the Abbé Barruel, who in 1797 wrote the five-volume Memoire pou servir á l’histoire du Jacobinisme received a copy of a letter in 1806 from J. B. Simonini, an army officer in Florence. In it was a statement that the Jews “promised themselves that in less than a century, they would be the masters of the world.” This letter had been widely circulated in France. It was later revealed that the letter had been fabricated by the French police to turn Napoleon against the Jews.”

Per Fox News this morning, new Muslim textbooks are claiming Jesus was a Palestinian, not born a Jew.

Very often, Jews are the Conscience of a Society.

Sociopaths who have no conscience, like Hitler or Stalin, resented them. Sociopaths of Islam still do.
