Believe it or not, Obama has done us a favor!
self | 3/22/09 | LS

In just over two months, President Barack Obama has done what the Conservative movement for the past 40 years has been unable to do: expose the single, deadly fact that when you take government money, the government owns your soul.

Oh, there was some "outrage" (mostly on the Left) about the AIG bonuses---which, we now know, the Obama administration not only knew about but which the Dem Senators and Congressmen actually put in the legislation.

But in his knee-jerk and predictably socialistic threat to cap ALL executive salaries if the companies are somehow involved with the financial system, Obama has laid bare the inconvenient truth that whenever it wanted to, government ALWAYS had the power to boss around not only the banks, but many other companies too.

How about higher education? How long until the salary cap hits university presidents and administrators in the interest of "keeping tuition down and ensuring that all kiddies get to go to college?" That wouldn't apply to private schools, you say. To quote Robert Byrd, WRONG! Virtually every educational institution in America, save a handful of Hillsdales and Grove City Colleges, take federal bucks. If bank CEOs can be told what to do because they are "in the system," so, too, can university presidents.

Hollywood will escape, right? While Hollywood doesn't take much money directly, you can't shoot a film on public lands, use the military as a prop, or even get the streets of Washington, D.C. cleared for a chase scene without the compliance of the Feds. While it's likely these bozos will be the LAST ones targeted, they will eventually be targeted, nonetheless.

In short, Obama has quickly and effectively demonstrated the principles of allowing government into the free market. GM has to make crap battery-powered windup cars; mortgage lenders have to give a house to the local crack dealer; and colleges have to admit blazingly incompetent students to fill diversity quotas. And this is just the beginning.

To quote Dr. Phil, "America, how's Obama workin' out for ya?"

“I tried to tell you freepers last Fall”

ALL HAIL the NEW Messiah!

You prognosticated nothing that wasn’t plainly obvious to anyone with a few operational conservative neurons.

“But I still dont trust CURRENT Republicans”

Again- since they aren’t generally conservative - and weren’t when the big-gov’t GWB was in office - this is a no-brainer.

I presume you have a point - but I admit it eludes me at the moment.

when did you ever believe al-reuters?
seriously, the poll is significantly flawed. Who was polled and what were the questions?
There are some leftists at the AMA who I am sure would like nationalized health care, but those of us who actually provide the care will be retiring when (if) it is finally initiated.

I don’t agree that the skulls of 30-40 years-ago college age voters were any less full of mush than today’s young idealistic Obama voter. Great Society, anti-war riots, 68 Chicago convention antics, had plenty of mush brains working out.

The real world has a way of teaching the facts of life. What the schools don’t teach, the reality of work and making sense of things on a personal basis, finally do, and most people mature.

Taxes and government control of individual lives, will be the issues that turn things against Obama.

I like where LS is going with this line of thinking but I would say there is only a POTENTIAL for a silver lining. Our prosperity as a nation has allowed two generations to get fat, dumb and oblivious. Maybe a cold shower and a bread line for all the "humanities" majors will shake a few of them back to reality. But I doubt it.

We have a fight on our hands and we have to step up and fight it where we can: local govt! Talk to your local pols and let them know what you expect out of them. And if you find one that is eager to climb on the Obama bus ride to Hell then make sure everyone in your town knows about it. Shine the light of truth on these guys and we have a chance.

Your forecasting prowess is acknowledged. And I’m pleasantly surprised at the speed and forcefulness of the pushback.

It is no secret that this administration is clearly looking to redistribute the wealth - taking from the rich and giving to to poor. The fault of this entire plan lies in the fact that if wealth accumulation is eliminated, there are fewer wealthy to steal from to give to the poor.

As some folks say, if you are looking for a job and had the choice of asking someone in a limo for a job versus asking someone picking through a dumpster for a job, the limo-occupant would be the first to be asked.

We are, in a monetary way, seeing the assasination of those who produce wealth. Capitalism works every time. Conservatism works every time. Lower taxes to increase access to wealth works every time. Lowering of rates brings more money to the treasury every time - but if it comes in it will be spent, and then some - no spending discipline.

Historically, Barry's type of strategy has failed every time, often with tragic consequences to the economy.

I most certainly will. Good luck finding a doctor who speaks English and was trained in this country under national health care.
Having said that, unless something changes drastically, I am sure it will pass soon. My husband and I can take care of each other until we are too demented to do so. I don’t know who the rest of the country will find to take care of them - but I do know they will not like national health care once it arrives. “free” stuff is worth what you pay for it.

Well, I’se jis a dum ol’ cuntry boy what ain’t got no Ivory leeg edukashun but I speck U dun hit da nale on da hed dere.

I do indeed believe that a majority of Americans are incapable of logical reasoning at this point. I don’t know any other way to explain the voting patterns in the last election. It isn’t just the younger ones either, I have had some short conversations recently that left my head spinning and my stomach queasy.

RE “I presume you have a point - but I admit it eludes me at the moment.

I was hoping you would ask:

Most freepers and republicans told me the MSM would NEVER go after Obama, NEVER. But the one time they will is when democrats have all the power, ala 1993. Clinton and Gore were Messiah like to MSM in 1992 and crashed within a few months in 1993. The difference is that in 1993 GOOD elected republicans rose and took control of party.

1) by 2006 Republicans were in power for too long, the goods one got out long ago, the remaining ones are like the dems they replaced in 1995.
2) As long as Bush was in WH republicans would get blame for everything bad, and GWB was dangerous after 2006 loss cutting deals with Pelosi WE would get blamed for. Bush may have salvaged Iraq, but by staying in power after 2006 he made 2008 certain. So 2008 was the price we paid for 2 more years of GWB. Like the economic crash, there was no way out at that point.
3) If a republican ever gets in the WH again, he will most likely follow the irresistible call to do big things, run up huge deficits again, big government. If he doesnt he will be attacked like Bush SR for doing nothing and not caring. Assuming we still have a country after Obama.

The enemies of our nation have spent the last 50 years reeducating, revising, and obscuring the truth in our news media and public education (indoctrination) system. The price we are paying is astounding. I hope that the excesses of this dictator, wanna be, will be seen for what they are.

There is precious little time left to stop this decline of freedom. Our congress can be made to hear, but it will take an avalanche of protest. If we wake up real soon, loud voices and clear election results will be all that is required to throw off the yolk of tyranny that is being thrust on our shoulders.

Will salary caps come to a university near you ?

Imagine the outrage when the government exercises its ‘right’ to restrict professors’ salaries, considering how much federal funding goes into academia. The govt already has universities effect quotas in admissions, in sports, in campus organizations, and in what can and cannot be said and done. The government has essentially owned and run colleges since the 60s. Now it may choose to hit where it really hurts.

An interesting phenomenon is how quickly Obama has been tagged with “ownership” of the economy and its problems. I think the Obamacons were planning to be able to blame Bush for many months and years for the economic problems we face.

Hasn’t happened. I’m spit balling here, but perhaps Obama’s push for and passage of the Porkulus bill convinced the electorate he owns the issue.

Big, big tactical mistake, if true.

it's looking like Orwell in Animal Farm had it exactly right. At first, the changes are so benign and non-disruptive that they are seen as a blessing and given wide support ( may even be traced back to start-up of Medicare or even the idea of employer provided care with pre-tax dollars); then, as that becomes non-sustainable , the benefits are ratcheted down and restricted to the few on a politicized basis. Hopeful that there is an American mind that will ultimately reject this.
