Oregon’s unemployment rate increased to 10.8 percent in February from 9.8 percent in January, according to data released Monday by the Oregon Employment Department.

That’s more than 2 percent points higher than the national unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.

Oregon now has the second-highest unemployment rate in the country, behind only Michigan (11.6 percent).

California was in much better shape going into the early 80’s recession. Breaking 11% seems like a given, I just hoping it doesn’t break 15. California used to build things like cars and planes. For the last 5 years, it seems like most of the jobs revolved around churning out a bunch of crappy tract homes.

Geesh... Remeber those bad old days from 2002-2006 when Bush and a GOP congress were in power?

4-5% unemployemnt, DOW at 12-14,000...

Then Pelosi and Reid CHANGED it all in 2007. And it’s been so great since.

You bring up some good points.

Too bad when people like you and I present them around Portland.. your looked at as something that is a obstructive influence on Portland and the state.

Hope they are glad they voted for Obama’s change.

Nah, this cult dimwits don't even know they are in trouble. Just collect unemployment forever. King Obama's promise. Live of the rich. Kalifornia is doing it and they must love it.

The liberal mindset when confronted by someone willing to debate ,and who has command of facts, is to first impugn the intelligence of the opponent, next swear a lot, and finally run away. The number of overeducated morons in Portland is truly astonishing. I can’t figure out what most do to survive, and I can only assume they are living off their parents — who probably lived off their parents.

Shed no tears for the people of Oregon.

They have been pushing and fighting and clawing for socialism for decades.

They wanted to put their arms around a real Marxist and now they have him.

They are better than the rest of us because they know how government is supposed to work.

Reap what you sow.

You’re wrong about that. There is a strong, almost pioneer spirit still rife in Oregon. Until I moved to southern Oregon I never saw so many ‘get the U.S. out of the U.N.’ signs posted on peoples’ property. Unfortunately, in the population centers of Portland, Salem and Eugene there are many, many Democrats and they dilute the vote of eastern and southern Oregon which is mainly rural and remains a bastion of independence and conservative thinking. In fact there is still a strong contingent that believes southern Oregon and the northernmost parts of California should secede from their respective states and form a new state called Jefferson. It’s not a new idea, but it still has merit.

Maybe those radical Oregonians will finally learn that Communism serves only the government - NOT THE PEOPLE!

Yeah, that 4% unemployment under Bush must have been terrible now that everything there is so great.

Wait a few years...

No. I lived in Oregon for 50 years. We Oregonians pushed for no such thing. We were invaded, just like the rest of the country is being invaded by foreign socialists, by socialists from other states who now rule Oregon.

My old office buddy had a son who got into a relationship with some girl from Oregon. About six months into it...she was preg. He decided to marry her...luckily he was within twelve months of finishing college. She delivers the kid...they stay there in the San Fransisco area where he has a fairly good paying technical job. My buddy goes out to California and then goes on up to Oregon to meet the in-laws. They are all welfare cases...living in some town reminded him of eastern Kentucky. No one in the family makes more than $15k a year max. He begins to note (he’s an retired intel guy with the Air Force)...that the majority of family members have a mental disease of various types.

Two years pass...then the wife says to the husband...they got to move to Oregon...to get back with her family. He explains that jobs pay well in San Fransisco. Why leave? She demands that they leave. He tries looking around Portland...where he’d have to take a 50 percent pay cut but this would make the Oregon wife happy....but it doesn’t. She wants to be in the middle of nowhere...with her family. Two months later...she takes off with the kid and moves there on her own. He goes up and spends two weeks...trying to explain to the wife about their situation and asking how they can make it in the middle of nowhere...and her response was that he could take a job with local lumber company (remember...this is a technical geek).

At that point, he realized that she was totally nuts. He filed for divorce and settled for her keeping the kid...figuring that child services would eventually call him anyway (they did...eighteen months later). So he has the kid, and this ex-wife is sitting there in Oregon with the rest of them.

Its hard to judge why so many people have a far and unusual attitude in Oregon. It may be that most of them are potheads...doped up constantly...or just some kind of mental type...who knows.

The change they didn’t hope for has arrived. May the Oreglibs sink further into oblivion. They asked for it.

Your story reminds me of my last marriage out in the timber country of Washington. There are people who are satisfied to live that sort of lifestyle, and vote Demoncrat to keep at least a few benefits flowing.

Actually Oregon is a microcosm of what the Democrats want to do nationally.

1. Destroy the timber industry
2. Invest in expensive, alternative energy
3. Tax business into oblivion to drive them out of the state
4. Generous welfare benefits for Obama voters that don’t want to work
