Question: Why Are We Not Impeaching Obama Now?
March 26, 2009 | abigail2

I am just wondering, can anyone tell me why are we not impeaching Obama now, before he does anymore damage?

I am no expert but what is needed to impeach a president. Can anyone here explain what is needed?

The GOP would have to win the House and Senate.

Has anyone heard of anyone working on impeachment? After we impeach the One, why don’t we impeach Pelosi, Frank etc.

When you don't have a majority in either house of Congress, there's not much chance of putting something through it which needs a supermajority. But as an academic exercise, what charge would you lay?

What we really need is a new electorate which would not sell its vote. Because the actual charge would have to be bribery - bribing the voters with government money. And self-dealing by sending billions of government money to his own political organization, ACORN.

Fat chance of indicting him on that charge! Your grand jury, the House of Representatives, voted for the bill without even looking at it!!

Well, I guess I asked and got the answer. What about checks and balances.

"high crimes and misdemeanors"

As someone else said, "a willing Congress". That means a House of Reps that will "impeach" (simple majority), mean "charge" Obama with "high crimes and misdemeanors" and then a Senate that will vote to convict (2/3 majority).

At this point, we're not even in the same universe of this being a possibility. The GOP suffered after attempting to oust Clinton, so the GOP will be very hesitant to go down that road again. It would have to be such a clear-cut case, that even democrats would vote for it, and if that be the case, it's likely Obama would resign.

With luck and pressure, the birth issue might be pushed to a ruling by the Supreme Court. If that ends up with a thumbs down for Obama (rather unlikely given the loosening modern standards for natural born citizenship) then we’d probably see him quit and Biden take the helm, and a flurry of clean-up legislation take place to grandfather in what Obama did. If Obama was a goof, Biden will be a goof squared.

To get impeachment, vote in whatever Republicans you can as soon as you can. Of course Obama might be voted out in 2012 too, making the point moot.

Since he acts like a king, we need to depose him.

Obama knows what he is doing, you can see it in his face. He is destroying the nation and he loves it. I can see how we could not have an election 2012. He could arrange it somehow. This is so crazy.

The next check comes from a challenge to a law enacted by congress and put into effect. You need to have a real controversy about how the law is actually applied to a real person before someone has standing to bring a suit claiming the law is unconstitutional. In other words, the process of checks and balances is slow. In a situation like this where Obama is shoving his agenda through with breakneck speed, it is really handicapped but it is nevertheless the system put in place by the Founding Fathers. A case might make it through the legal system before the next formal check, called national elections, but it is doubtful. Actually the public backlash is a check all by itself and will be the most effective move against Obama. Put him and his minions in fear of reelection and you can apply the brakes.

This system is the best we have and shouldn’t be rushed. One of the problems we have run into in the last several years is this tendency on the part of our elected representatives (who were supposed to be the cool head of the republic) to react on emotions alone. We should not do the same.

You need an impeachable offense and a Congress that agrees to impeach. It would be more practical to work toward a decent Congress in 2010. In CA, you can start by supporting Dana Walsh against Nancy Pelosi.

http://www.danawalshforcongress.com

At the federal level the process to impeach an official is spelled out in the Constitution. If treason, bribery or other high crimes or misdemeanors are committed by those we have elected to our federal government—the President, Vice President, federal judges and cabinet members—they can be impeached. You can’t impeach members of the House or Senate, since these bodies handle member misconduct.
