Tea Party Total Head Count Thread (Post Your Attendance Numbers Here)
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/15/2009 3:08:47 PM PDT by kristinn

I'm hoping to be able to ascertain an overall national figure of attendance at the tea parties today by asking Freepers to post their crowd estimates on this thread.

I'm also asking that the thread be kept to just the numbers, no photos, etc., but if you want to link back to photos in your crowd estimate that's fine.

Please give the location and number of participants.

I'll go first:

Melbourne, FL - 1000.

Yeah...
About 1,000, and I was in the middle of it.
If I can get these cell phone pictures transfered, I got some cool shots!

BTW: I've met the organizer and he seems like a great guy.

If the weather had been better, I think we could have a least doubled turnout. Beautiful setting...just a bit nippy and damp. We can do it again. My sense, it was a subdued crowd...but they were ready to get rowdy if need be. However, I would tell the organizer.... I did not come to be told to call my congress critter about this and about that....I want them GONE. Time to clean house, and the Senate too.

Just back from Indianapolis. Another poster said 1,000 but lots more there than that. The organizer and one of the speakers said 10,000. Pajamas Media is reporting 8,000. Local news WRTV says ‘over 2,000’ - WTHR says ‘thousands’. Fox News said ‘over 5,000’.

So exact numbers are anybody’s guess but having been there I’d say it was at least 5,000.

Chattanooga, TN.

800 - 1000.

My guess was around 1000 or so. Good crowd, and very enthusiastic. It was a great experience. I was impressed by the number of people that were like-minded!

Oklahoma City, one said 8000, news had it at 7000 another 5000. So split the diff. say 6500.

It was a great day and so energized.

Fort Worth, Texas: over 5500. Lagrave Field seats 5100 and there had to be at least 300-400 people standing!

We drove to the Tea Party in Paducah, KY. A police officer right behind me said 2000 to someone who asked him. On stage they said they had well over 1500 signatures on their “scrolls”, and that was before quite a few people, including myself, got up front to sign one. Not bad for a town of 26,307 (2000 Census). The local talk radio show did promote it pretty heavily, and the local Congressman (Ed Whitfield) spoke. He took those scrolls back to DC with him. :-)

Dean Heller - You guys got good representation! John Ensign sent word today that he was proud of the tea party, etc. With two good guys, maybe we can get rid of the POS grungy Harry?

Keep up the good works!

I would add, as others have noted, that the Paducah Police Dept. didn’t even really need to show up, as the crowd was perfectly behaved. But I suppose there’s always the “precautionary” aspect to consider, such as if contrary
troublemakers showed up. (None did.)

Shoot, I don’t even think I saw one piece of litter.
