U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach might challenge Pat Toomey in the 2010 Republican Senate primary.
A spokesman for the four-term Chester County Republican today said Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, chairman of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, called Gerlach on to discuss a Senate campaign, in the wake of Sen. Arlen Specter's defection to the Democratic Party.
Cornyn, who had endorsed Specter over conservative challenger Toomey, could not be reached for comment.
Gerlach spokesman Mark Campbell, however, said party officials were "very interested," in a Gerlach Senate candidacy.
Campbell said Gerlach is considering it.
"The congressman's decision is not going to be based on political opportunity, but on what he believes is best for the party. He believes the Republican Party needs to go back to being the party of John Heinz and Ronald Reagan," Campbell said. He described Gerlach as a fiscally conservative centrist Republican.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee is recruiting Rep. Jim Gerlach (R-Pa.) to run for the Senate because it views Pat Toomey as unelectable against Sen. Arlen Specter, according to Gerlachs lead consultant.
According to Gerlach consultant Mark Campbell, Cornyn reached out to Gerlach this morning, and the two are expected to chat about the Senate race this afternoon.
They are interested in Jim running for the United States Senate, said Campbell. The senatorial committee has told me that Toomey is unelectable in a general election.
The Grand Old Stupid Party is at it again.
The national leaders of the GOP hate real conservatives.
Would this be the same committee that thought Mccain was electable as president??
Had not considered contributing money in the PA primary, but if this pans out to be true I will certainly send off a check to Toomey.
Not one penny to the NRSC. Not one.
OKAY...checkbooks out...send money to TOOMEY!!! And then email the NRSC and tell them....
Cornyn, is another one that’s got to go! He’s a backstabbing RINO too. He should be put on a shoprt leash, until it’s decided if he is trustworthy or not. *This* undermining of Toomey, ain’t winning him any gold stars, or showing him as being very trustworthy.
As far as i am concerned, both him and Graham are suspect, of being future Spectors, Collins, and Snowes.
Another reason the GOP is attempting this is to clear the Governor’s race for AG Tom Corbett. And while I’ve been critical of John Cornyn in the past, it’s worth noting that Jim Gerlach is not Lincoln Chafee.
Here in California we are in the process of recalling Assemblyman Anthony Adams(R) for voting for the biggest tax increase in CA history after he signed the no new taxes pledge.
KFI radio’s John & Ken call it heads on a stick.
$21,000.oo was raised in the first 24 hrs.
Cornyn needs to go, time for the squishes to take conservatives seriously.
Time to take back the party!
You are very well organized. You know exactly what local papers to post to keep us up on the RINO races, at AZ and PA (but you cant call Spector a RINO anymore LOL)
Guess I need to double my donation to Toomey!! Unelectable? Hogwash!
I do about the same, but it's easy for me, being in Maine. I won't feel guilt in the least watching the GOP chase the DEMs as they both go to the left, and take the country down the toilet in the process.
No surprise there, unfortunately.
putting an RMSP candidate up is an addiction with the GoP the last few years, no matter how badly they get beaten.. the RMSP’s have been getting culled at a pretty good rate, too bad the NRSC can’t or won’t acknowledge that and their wayward trend to oblivion.

We have to reestablish conservative principles in the GOP. By allowing the Republican party to drift so far to the left we've done a great disservice to ourselves and our country.
People Now Prefer Republicans (2010 here we come!)

Already sent one (even though I’m not a PA resident) and now I will probably end another.
I’ve had it with Cornyn, too! We’ve got to come up with a good conservative viable candidate here in TX to defeat him in the next election.
