More stockpiling ammunition: Fear of potential Obama laws causing mass sales

Every day, Darren Newsom's three Bitterroot Valley Ammunition facilities crank out 300,000 rounds of ammunition.

It's not nearly enough.

“I'm going about 100,000 rounds in the wrong direction every day,” Newsom said. “We probably have about six months of back orders right now.”

Newsom has been in the ammunition manufacturing business for more than 20 years and he's never seen demand this high.

Fearful of the Obama administration's potential to tighten gun control laws, people from all over the country are stocking up on guns and ammunition.

“I went through the Clinton years and there was a bit of a scare then,” Newsom said. “This is like the Clinton years on steroids. On the day of the election, our phones started going nuts. It hasn't stopped since.”

As a master distributor for ATK - the world's largest ammunition business - Bitterroot Valley Ammunition supplies other ammunition manufacturers around the country with the components needed to make bullets.

“I get a million primers in every other day and most are shipped out the very next day,” he said. “I have 100 million primers on back order right now. We just can't get enough of them.”

At a recent gun show in Salt Lake City, Newsom sold somewhere between 300,000 and 400,000 rounds in the first two hours.

“It's just unreal,” he said. “Somewhere in lots of basements around the country, there are millions of rounds of ammunition being stored.”

Local businesses have felt the ammunition shortage.

At Bob Ward's in Hamilton, Mike Matteson said there has been quite a run on ammunition and reloading supplies like bullets and powder since the election.

“We are especially low right now with pistol ammunition,” Matteson said. “There are four or five calibers that we don't even have on our shelves.”

“If the people aren’t areaid of the govt, they why is it that while people are cutting back on everything else, they’re buying guns and ammo like it’s going out of style?”.
Because the American people are smarter than they look. And smarter than washington gives them credit for.

Thanks for the tip. The CZ-75 (9mm) is like a freaking target pistol it is so accurate. CZ’s new guns are not cheap either.

The Czechs even under communism made some pretty good stuff including beer, guns, crystal plus the women are hot.

worth noting, if my memory works, that the cz52 firing pin does NOT like being dry fired, and can break much more easily than is considered normal for a military weapon. (I do own one, quite a kick and rather loud..:)

But yeah, 7.62 Tokarev is still in easy supply from what I can tell. I assume there aren’t many PPSh’s around...

tHe MSM wants everyone tobelive that record ammo purchases are a result of fear of Obama's coming arns and ammo confiscation. That is not true.

Half of America is getting ready to defend its freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights of our constitution.

What we see is a social movement dedicated to liberty, especially he first and second amendments, and the protection of property from theft and confiscation by our "leftist government." Half of America knows what Obama and the present administration represents: America has no representation.

The president and Congress do not pass laws or executive orders that are the will of the people. The people DID NOT WANT the huge omnibus TARP bail out. The American people do not want illegal aliens in our nation. The American people do not want the war on terror ripped from the jaws of victory. The American people do not want to abandon Israel and leave her to the dogs of Islamofascism. The American people do not want the nationalization of its banks and its auto industry. The American people do not want the President so called, to dictate to corporations who shall and shall not form its boards of directors, or their management. The American people do not want individual wealth accumulation to be ended and subject to government fiat. The American people do not want unions given majority share holder status in corporations using our tax dollars to purchase it.That list goes on, and on, and on.

And when our government fails as it creates the political , social and economic conditions for its own demise, and turns on its own citizens, half of us will be ready.

Its a social movement, a phenom whose symptom is the current record purchase of ammunition and small arms. Half of America is arming itself to the teeth. Half of American , the half that funds the hope and change for the other have, do not accept the so called "Hope and Change!"

That is the truth that the MSM does not want to reveal to the OTHER half of our nation that support this putrid excuse for a presidency, and a completely ineffectual congress, and their joint application of a Hegelian Dialectic in order to traduce and change America into a nationalist socialist state.

This will NOT stand.

Change the gun laws, ban guns, ban ammunition. Such laws will not be obeyed, just as the government now refuses to enforce immigration law now iin effect. Since we are no longer a nation of the rule of law, we will be quite ready to disobey any law that removes our freedoms and liberty, and the force of arms is now prepared to be exercised in that endeavor. That is the truth the MSM does not want to reveal.

Since we are no loner a nation of laws, the American people are preparing to enforce the laws that the executive branch refuses to enforce, or that the legislative branch refuses to pass according to the will of the people, hell they don;t even read many of the laws that are passed before they vote.

America is not afraid of the potential anti gun legislation of the Zero administration. They are hoping for it.

It is not hoarding. It is stockpiling. Hoarding is something that technically cannot be done until AFTER something is rationed.

The normal price/demand relationship causes quantity demand for a good to fall when prices rise. Sometimes this relationship gets inverted, such that rising prices trigger increasing demand. This occurs in speculative bubbles, and in hoarding situations. Whether or not you want to call the present behavior "hoarding", it clearly represents an inversion of the price/demand curve.

I’m thinking that in a year, year and a half there will be a lot of great deals on slightly used, near new condition guns.

You can get lucky.

There is a C-A-L ranch store here in Pleasant Grove, Utah, and while I was standing looking at the bare shelves of ammo yesterday a salesman wheeled in a cart that had a case of .38 special bullets — $16.50 per box of 50 cartridges ( CCI Blazer Brass FMJ ) The catch — 2 boxes per customer per day. Between my daughter, my wife, myself and 2 days, I got ten of them. The salesman said that such shipments usually last on the shelves 3 hours when word gets out.

People are willing to pay far more than what the products are worth.

That statement is internally contradictory.

Not necessarily in case of price/demand inversion. That someone may believe other people will pay a certain price for something does not imply that the item is actually worth that much. In some cases, the value of something may fall even as the price is skyrocketing (most typically, when skyrocketing prices encourage the good to be produced in quantities exceeding the total amount people will want to actually use).

If you search around there’s been a bunch of buckshot tests done that say #1 is the best overall. The gelatin tests are pretty convincing. Ufortunately loaded #1 is darn near impossible to find nowadays. #4 is out there and if you live in a neighborhood like mine it’s probably a good choice.
