Gonna have to agree with you on this. All N Korea would have to do is build another one of these "tiny" 20 KT bombs(I can't believe some of the statements I have seen today on FR concerning the size of this nuke)on a ship, send it into NY harbor and Blam, part of NYC and many people vaporized, not to mention the radiation and the fire deaths. With all the evidence turned to powder who would be retaliate against?

I was assuming so last night from the way the S Koreans and Japanese reacted. They didn’t go into a tail spin with the one in 2006, so I decided they knew something we didn’t. Thanks for the graph!
Yeah, the 4.7 is old, the last one I read said they upgraded it to a 5.5, which would put the blast in the 20 kt range, 1945 technology but enough to blow a sizable city to he** if they desired.

Agree with you there. Americans have always went about their business as if no one would ever do them harm and wake up shocked one day when they find out they were fooling themselves. This time though there may not, probably won’t, be time to recover and win the day.
There are different schools of thought.
It is our national characteristic. The Japanese would say 米国の国民性。 They can see it. I can see it. A lot of Freepers can see it. But many Americans can not or will not.
You come to appreciate it from afar.
We sleep at dawn, then they move on us. It is the way it has almost always been. We even the score alright, but only after suffering a horrendous bloody nose ourselves first.
Having become indentured to China, the range of responses available to address the transgressions of its lapdog atate are limited.
It reminds me of how selectively the “Bush Doctrine” was applied. Invade Iraq? Sure. Bomb Iran or N. Korea? Whoa there, tiger.
Japan and S. Korea might want to float the idea of a trade ban with China to see how serious they are about protecting their lapdog.
Beyond that, the USA should walk away from the “six party summits” and reserve all options in protecting its allies. More importantly, it should impress upon Japan and S. Korea their right of self-defense.
The powder is the evidence. The signature of the device can be analyzed and the origin can be determined in hours. At least, the point of construction could be determined.
If nuclear weapons go up for sale the way that MiGs and Blackhawk helicopters are, then where it was built matters a whole lot less than who set it off. That's the real danger of when nuclear arms become so common they're 'just another weapon'.
