You ought to consider keeping some of your random thoughts to yourself.

The article doesn’t say what kind of Subaru it is, but Subaru does make Foresters and Tribecas which would both qualify as SUVs I imagine. And all except the smallest of their line get 5 star crash ratings.

If that was in Florida, the driver of the Bimmer used to belong to a BMW website I used to go to. He was bragging about his M5 (actually his father) and how he drove, and a poster straight up warned him to watch out or he'll end up in the news. That weekend he, and his friends, passed on.
Bottom line, no matter the car, at certain speeds you are simply meat-ware strapped onto a missile. The head of that extreme rightwing Austrian party died in a VW Phaeton ...an extremely safe car. Princess Di died in a Mercedes S Class, a veritable tank. At certain speeds, even a Range Rover Vogue will be scrapped. Drive safe.

It’s an old Subaru, 1992 vehicle year before all the safety features in the newer ones. I’ve owned both early and recent models with the new ones having airbags and such.

Same thing happened down in Las Cruces. Except there the runway was on a mesa top and they flew off the end.

Do they still have drive-thru windows at bars in NM? (They did in '91 when my family did our USA driving tour.)

I hope I don't turn the thread away from its main point.
We were coming back from Carlsbad to Roswell, sunday night around 6:30, topped a hill outside of Artesia and saw a roadblock.
There must have been 20 to 30 Officers from various agencies setting up.
Now I'm not a fan of these checkpoints, I was amazed at the amount of man power that was concentrated in 50 yards of road and not out on patrol.
What I do want to make clear,is that the Officers at that checkpoint were polite and professional, I just find this type of deployment detrimental, to over all enforcement and of unconstitutional.

No, drive thru’s are all gone. However, just about every convenience store sells gas and booze. Here in the oil patch, not uncommon to see people carrying two cases of beer out the door.

It’s a shame the drunk driver was not a Mexican illegal.
At least their deaths could have had meaning in that they would have helped stop the illegal flood. (/sarcasm)

There are pros and cons to DWI checkpoints. They do stop everyone and no profiling so they are legal. On the other hand it is definitely guilty until proven innocent. And if you have an opportunity to exit the highway before reaching the checkpoint, you used to be stopped though recently they have ruled that police can not stop you if you turn before reaching the area. My personal policy is to avoid large concentrations of flashing red lights. I suggest that one turn far enough in advance so as not to arouse suspicion.

A lot that are arrested are illegals, but in Santa Fe the cops can’t ask them that question; it’s a “sanctuary” city.

Sound advice.
I think if one thing came out of it, it let the community know they are going to be out over the holiday.
I recently moved from Indiana, I really am happy with how the Officers here work, they are understaffed here in Roswell, but those I've met have been very good, a pleasant change.

Kids these days think that when you slam on the brakes the car stops like magic. I like movies with special effects about as much as the next guy, but I wonder if these contribute to the problem. The hero on TV and in movies is always defying the laws of physics. It's the cool thing to do -- why shouldn't every 16-year-old give it a whirl?
I know it's not completely new, but if James Bond does it while wearing a tuxedo, or of Burt Reynolds does it why trading wisecracks with Dom DeLuise, I think people can see it as a fantasy. But some of the stuff I see on youtube (kids trying to jump over moving cars, for instance) makes me think that kids no longer see a line between fantasy physics and reality physics.

Roswell has a problem with all the aliens, the kind from south of the border not from outer space. They cause the largest part of the drug and domestic violence problems the city sees.

I did some digging on that 2008 story...you weren't kidding!!! Kid had a deathwish! Flew off the same runway at 150MPH SIDEWAYS and went 200 feet into a 300 year old tree. He had four (4) of his friends in the car with him......Here is the result of his youthful indiscretion:
