Well, as the Pythons would say,"That's British Rail For You."
If only guns were banned . . .
yup... the UK is pretty violent, just like the US.
just imagine what would happen if we were pissed off.
don’t mess with us, if you value your future generations.
That is as certain and beyond debate as anthropogenic global warming.
Just saying.
Let’s see, would that have any correlation to the fact that the name Mohammed is the 17th favorite baby boy name for 2007 up from 22nd in 2006? Hmmmmm?
They need more gun and knife laws!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, England is so stuck in the liberal, environmental, animal rights, hippie utopia, that they live in the La La Land of denial. Just look at the way they put the US down, this is good ammo to use against the liberals who just love to tell me how civilized Europe is compared to the US.
The poor ignorant dear doesn't know what selection bias is.
If you are an average American who has lived your whole life in America, you have been exposed to the vast diversity of all Americans, from the most educated and sophisticated right down to the rap singers and Jerry Springer Show guests.
On the other hand, if you perchance should meet an Englishman with the means and motive and opportunity to travel to America, you are not very likely to be meeting an average member of British society. Slack jawed school leavers and multi-generational dole-dependent layabouts on sink estates do not jet off to Hollywood to meet up-and-coming young film stars.
And when the up-and-coming film star becomes the world famous and wealthy film star, and visits or moves house over to England, once again she will not be meeting anything like a representative cross-section of the English people. I could show her round a few council estates in the dodgier parts of greater London that would cure her of her ignorant, snobbish Anglophilia in one afternoon.
Well, they overlooked banning mean thoughts. But never fear, I'm sure they'll get around to doing so.
Fathers’ rights activists in Britain saw it coming and long ago predicted the high crime rate as a result of fatherlessness.
Austria placed second? more violent then south africa????sorry but this report is BS.
You drop that hat? ;-)
While I wouldn't want to belittle the disturbing trend shown by these figures, one should always treat with the greatest caution international comparisons of crime rates simply based on crude numbers, such as this. Widely different systems of classification, and cultural differences which cause more crime to be reported to the police in some countries than others, make these numerical comparisons a very unreliable guide to the reality on the ground. It's the trend within a single country, using internally consistent recording systems, which is a much more reliable indicator. The article does make this caveat, which for once (when excuses are made by a government minister) has substance.
Just remember this is reported crime.
A lot of crime is never reported. The murder rate is much lower.
921 murders versus 20,000.
Im happy with the gun laws as they are.
They do. Theres a lot of violence in Britain, but it very rarely becomes lethal violence.
This is not an inditement of the state of gun laws in the UK. It is an inditement of drink culture. Almost all crime in the UK is drink (or drug) related.
Its like everywhere else. Crime, particularly violent crime, tends to be concentrated in particular locations. Usually depressed urban areas.
Statistics can be misleading. We need to be able to talk back to them.
Firstly, what is the definiton of a “violent crime”? I dont know, but Im sure that it varies from country to country.
Secondly, this is “reported” crime. Crime is more likely to be reported these days.
Thirdly, there may be more violent crime about in the UK, but its much less likely to be lethal violent crime.
Just so. Im sure thats more to blame than the state of the nations gun laws.
And if you read Theodore Dalrymple, you will find the crime rate is even higher then the “official” crime rate because they don’t even count a large number of crimes.
