Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 3, 2009

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

I can’t believe all the people who are underestimating this woman.

Yes, she has what it takes to take on the liberals and the media.

"Quitting to run for another office. This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the RINO’s"

I don't know if I understand what you're saying. She quitting her job for which she was elected to run in an election that won't happen for another three years? That doesn't make sense. Why would she quit a job that only had a year left and would still give her two years to campaign for the presidency. This won't be well received by most of America.

I have a feeling that there's more to the story than what's been revealed.

Just cause you keep repeating it does not make it true.

The Dems tried to make Limbaugh their target like they did Gingrich a few years back.

That didn't work so they've turned to Palin.

She is a target as long as she continues as Gov. Every move she makes is ridiculed and it's hurting Alaska.

I think Palin is removing herself from the bulls-eye for now to deny the Dems their target. She will likely be back when she decides how to approach national office.

No, the Mitt Romney Mafia is quite unhappy.

Why? Just curious and surprised at what you said.

I hope she’s just realizing family is more important than [likely] doomed republic. She deserves better with for life than the political cesspool.

Godspeed, in whatever you do, Sarah.

No the Obama mafia is happy.

She stupidly takes the news cycle away from the pitiful job numbers.

Anytime this President has a bad week, one of our so called “leaders” does something so dumb to take the heat off him.

Ms. Palin has just done it by re-signing over JULY 4th WEEKEND! Are you effing serious?

You leave office over July 4th weekend?

Imagine if over July 4th weekend 1776 the Founding Fathers just quit?

I am done with her

How sad and disappointing. I hope it's not for some sort of blackmail or some indiscretion on her or some member of her family's part. Regardless, this very likely finishes her politically. She ran for the job of Governor and got the job with the idea she would do that job. You need a very good reason to walk away from that responsibility.

If she has some more important issue(s), like her health and/or the health and well being of her family to take care of, then may God bless her and I wish her well with those issues. I will certainly support her if she should return to the public arena when and if she is able.

If, on the other hand, she is quitting her job so she can devote her time and energies to run for another office, she will certainly not get my support or vote. If political ambition is her rational for quitting her Governorship, she is not trustworthy.

I wish her well and hope that all is well with her and her family and that the people of Alaska, especially those who supported and voted for her, are well served by the Lt. Governor.

She knows what she's doing and why.

It's pretty hard to spend the requisite time in the contiguous 48, building alliance and earning chits, if one lives in Alaska, let alone serving as a sitting governor.

Wasn’t the press conference supposed to be held and hour ago?

BTW, I tend to agree.

"Getting ready to run for presidency. After Obama screws everything up, the rats will be done in 2012."

Unless there is a revolution in America, by 2012, the national election will just be for show. Between the government supported activities of ACORN, corruption in the 2010 census, and the high likelihood, that the GOP will be vulnerable to cross over primary manipulation by the Democrats, I am not optimistic that 2012 is retrievable. The 2010 House and Senate races may be the last chance to stop the Marxist leadership in this country.

This is a “faith” move, if I ever saw one. She has been Called.

Let us hope so.
