Palin to RESIGN as Alaska Governor

UPDATE: Palin To Resign As Alaska Governor UPDATE: KTUU-TV in Anchorage reports that Palin not only won't seek re-election, but will resign later this month.

ORIGINAL POST: Gov. Sarah Palin (R) has announced she will not run for re-election in 2010, CNN reports. She's scheduled to make an announcement shortly.

The decision frees Palin to travel in the Lower 48 as she considers a potential run for president in 2012. A re-election campaign could also have been tough on the former vice presidential nominee; her approval rating has dropped from stratospheric highs, and a number of candidates in both parties are said to be considering runs.

Even if she won, the race would have been dominated by the specter of a presidential bid, giving her adversaries an opportunity to wound her politically. She's still fending off ethics complaints, many spurred by the "Troopergate" scandal.

Why? Just curious and surprised at what you said.

It means she's fully in 2012 campaign mode and she did it early. She will campaign hard for 2010 Republican candidates and if they win, they will support her rather than Romney.

It’s speculation as of now. As everything else is on this thread. But it’s a good bet as any she’s planning to run for the presidency.

“Let’s fill the coffers folks.”

I believe she’s definitely in!

Email I received dated 06/29/09

Memorandum

From: Meghan Stapleton, SarahPAC
To: SarahPAC Supporters

Greetings from Alaska where the fish are running and the sun is shining late!

Not long ago, I had the opportunity to spend time with Governor Palin as we visited Central New York, Manhattan, Long Island, Washington, D.C. and Texas.

It never ceases to amaze me that every time we travel together, virtually every moment of her time is spent talking to and caring for others, while listening to and learning from them as well - like brave, young Robert whose life we celebrated at the Autism Speaks Walk or the historical voices of the strong men and women upon whose shoulders we stand, including Harriet Tubman, Susan B. Anthony and former Secretary William H. Seward.

Below, I attached a quick note from the Governor which she penned before leaving the country last week. I am attaching it to this memo because I am asking you to help Governor Palin and SarahPAC today!

You have been so incredibly supportive and generous, and now we ask you again for your help - and we ask that you please also encourage your friends and family to give.

SarahPAC needs to be in the position to help fund candidates who are going to fight for what we all believe - smaller government, less spending, and fewer taxes. With your help, we can take the Governor’s message and encourage others who also have hope and are firmly rooted in the conservative belief that you know how best to spend your money and not government.

SarahPAC can’t do that without your help. Please visit this link and give to SarahPAC today - and encourage others to do so as well.

Sincerely,
Meghan Stapleton
SarahPAC

P.S. Please give before June 30th. Your help is critical. Visit this link to give!

Dear SarahPAC Supporter:

I wanted to drop you a quick note about my trip earlier this month - a whirlwind tour and an opportunity to share a bit more about Alaska. (I am writing this before heading overseas to visit our Troops; I know that will be a most inspiring journey!)

It is such a treat to talk to everyone about Alaska and hear stories of fishing, hunting, and camping. And it thrills me to hear from those who wish to visit our beautiful state! Alaska has much to offer - from her magnificent glaciers to her abundant natural resources to fuel our homes and businesses.

When we travel outside Alaska, the hospitality is always overwhelming, and Todd and I so enjoyed meeting many new people on our recent trip to the Lower 48 - all emblematic of so many across this country who are willing to give of time, energy and effort to help one another.

It was thrilling to see the look on both young and old faces as I traveled to New York, Washington, D.C. and Texas. Words can never express the incredible spirit of all those who dedicate their lives to making even one life more comfortable.

Todd and I always recognize how grateful and proud we are to be citizens of the United States. We are so very blessed.

With an Alaska Heart,

Sarah Palin

So you leave over JULY 4th WEEKEND?

Right after the pathetic June job numbers came out?

You take away the newscycle from that over JULY 4th weekend?

She is going to run for the big job through the media of her choosing.

This is the future, and they know this.

Being a governor just puts a bulls-eye on her.

Not being in office will free her to be herself.

Remember “Let Reagan be Reagan”?

She will now be able to reach the American people without the filter of office and speak over the news media.

Sarah transcends the office she holds, that is why it doesn’t help her to be governor.

Neither Truman nor any other politician had to face the slander and attacks Palin did.

Oh please, just look at what we've said about Hillary over the years, she just chooses to ignore it. Say what you will about Hillary, and as much as I disagree with her on the issues, she has got some stones. This is politics, not a Tupperware party.

Still not voting for Romney.

which is how Obama can win reelection; I'm voting against Obama, at every opportunity. I don't care who runs against him.

She stupidly takes the news cycle away from the pitiful job numbers.

That's already old news with the 4th of July.

Tomorrow are the Tea Parties.

Sunday is Michael Jackson Funeral Day.

The job numbers are already old news.

That is my concern. Why not a reason? If she was not ready to say publicly why she is doing this, she should have waited until she was ready. This way it opens the doors for the PDS speculation to get some real traction.

If she intends to run she should just say “I'm going for it!” I think that would fire up the base and cause the rest of the field (who ever they are) to shiver.

If she has a health or family reason, I completely understand that. I can not imagine a scandal emerging after the scrutiny she has received this far.

I would like to see her in the race for 2012, if for no other reason than to keep the competition honest. But I believe she could do the job - certainly better than most.

I'm listening to her brother on FNC, and he's confirming my thought that the Left can now claim victory with a new tactic to bankrupt the winner of an election out of office.

Cedric, if you spend the time and effort to get elected to be a governor, you need to fulfill your term in office as a thanks for those who supported you. This is quitter type stuff, unless that can be mitigated by further information. I’m holding out hope, but this doesn’t look good.

If this is a political consideration, it’s going to severely impact my opinion of Palin.

Those numbers came out yesterday. If there was any leadership, we would ride them the entire weekend

Seriously, the symbolism in quitting over July 4th weekend will NOT be lost on anyone

“Resignation is a BIG mistake if she actually aspires to higher, national office.”

Why is that? Hussein never was Governor and he aspired to higher, national office. Although he had the title of “Senator”, it was for a very short time, and he was mostly absent.

I don’t think average Americans need to listen to the news to know that the economy is bad; they just have to look at their wallets. Americans are now living with bad-news-Obama every minute of the day.
