"Birthers" -- those who suspect that Barack Obama was not really born in the United States and is thus Constitutionally barred from serving as President -- have forced themselves into the limelight these past few days. In case you haven't seen it, there's a video making the rounds of GOP US Rep Mike Castle getting heckled on the issue, That video prompted gape-jawed coverage on the blogs and cable news shows (especially MSNBC). And that prompted conservative media titans (Limbaugh, Dobbs, etc.) to engage in serious discussions about why it's actually an important issue.
This is all a perfect example of how the conservative marketplace -- that I wrote about recently -- is driving the right, to the detriment of the Republican Party.
Birtherism is much, much more prevalent than most people realize. It comes up constantly on the right -- it did throughout the campaign, and never really slowed down after. And that's because from a marketing perspective, it sells.
In my conversation with Howard Phillips, head of the Conservative Caucus, I asked him what issues are driving good response rates among organizations on the right (his and others) that raise funds through direct-mail and telemarketing. He said that he expected opposition to Sonya Sotomayor's confirmation to become hot. (This was about two weeks ago, when it didn't seem that way. Indeed, GOP Senator John Thune had complained that Sotomayor opposition “doesn’t have the punch out there in terms of fundraising and recruiting, I think — at least so far.”

There is a MASSIVE COORDINATED PUSH today by the State run media (probably led by the Obama administration's and DNC's talking points) to try and reframe the entire argument regarding the legitimacy of Obama to serve because he is not an American citizen (Absolutely no proof that he is one; no legitimate birth certificate and the fact that Obama has spent OVER A MILLION DOLLARS in legal fees to an army of lawyers all fighting the release of a $10 birth certificate.).
Obama's new ploy is to reframe the entire argument and to denigrate all of those seeking simple proof that he is legitimately qualified under the guidelines of the U.S. Constitution to serve as president of the United States and Commander and Chief by calling everyone seeking the truth: RACISTS.
Sorry DNC and Obamessiah, you and your State run media can scream "RACISTS" all you want but it isn't going to wash HIS TIME, the Constitution says you MUST be a natural born citizen in order to hold this office, it has NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE and EVERYTHING TO DO WITH UPHOLDING THE RULE OF LAW AND THE COSTITUTION.

It's been getting harder and harder to ignore the rabid right, however, as this round of birther media coverage makes evident. And that's a very ominous problem for the GOP as it tries to gear up for 2010 — when it wants to be running against Obama’s economy, not his birth certificate.

I, for one, would love to see the proof of that. Having read most of the threads and stuff that has been posted here, I’m pretty amazed that nothing has happened in all these months. With everyone looking for proof of this, either Obama has covered it up so good that no one can find it, or else, it just doesn’t exist (i.e., the proof).
That’s why I prefer the sane approach to this issue (versus the ones who went “certifiable” and insane after the election), and get the various states to enact a law to *legally require* specific documentation in order for a candidate to be on the ballot.
This is the simplest and easiest way to solve this issue...
I’d like to see much more of a stand on the socialist policies that are being shoved down America’s collective throat.
Michael Steele is hedging on using the word “Socialism”. Michael Medved and Joe Scarborough use ugly rhetoric to say why Republicans should NOT call the policies socialist.
The only way to turn out these bad political plans for once and for all is to make it clear that Americans oppose SOCIALISM. It isn’t the messenger (Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Obama), it is the message.
I can produce my birth cert. in 5 minutes. All we on “the rabid right” are asking is that Obama do the same. Once he does this, this issue will be put to rest. Is that asking to much of “Dear Leader”?
Once again, NO ONE HERE opposes legislation going forward. Rather, we actively support it. Walk, chew gum.

They even pay to have billboards put up around the United States asking “Where is the Birth Certificate?”... I don’t know of any other news source anywhere that has paid to put up these kinds of billboards all over the country.
If you’re interested in the Obama Birth Certificate issue, you’ll find a lot of older articles from them on it, and they always have new articles coming up all the time. They are always hammering away at this issue and it’s a new source that is well worth supporting by going and clicking on their links...
If the birth certificate HAS been released, there would be no lawsuit and no challenges to the lawsuit to have it released.
