Dr. Obama’s Tonsillectomy
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 07-26-09 | Wall Street Journal Editorial Staff

Do Americans want a federal board deciding if their kids need surgery?

Those greedy doctors. “You come in and you’ve got a bad sore throat, or your child has a bad sore throat or has repeated sore throats,” President Obama explained at Wednesday’s press conference. “The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, ‘You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid’s tonsils out.’”

If that’s what he really thinks is wrong with U.S. health care—and with the medical profession—then ObamaCare is going to be even worse than we thought. The point Mr. Obama oversimplified is that the way the U.S. pays for medical services can encourage some physicians to prescribe unnecessary tests or treatments, especially in Medicare. But his implication is that doctors aren’t acting in the best interests of their patients in order, basically, to rob them.

He oversimplifies.

He particularly likes to dream up fictitious enemies that say things he can then appear to knock down. He loves straw man arguments. He never names anyone specific. “SOme say”, “There are those that say”, “A few naysayers complain that..”

Nobody in real life ever says what he says are the arguments against what he wants to do. That’s why he uses straw men, if he used someone real they could say “I never said that and Obama’s lying.”

Look how well it went for him to ad lib about Gates and the stupid officers. Can’t use real people. He screws up.

Straw men are the ultimate communist way of knocking down opposition. Watch “Animal Farm” or “1984” (ie Goldstein).

Me too.

When I was younger, every illness I ever got ended up in my tonsils. So swollen, I oft times needed a spit cup. Countless salt water gargles... yuk. The doctor wanted to remove them, numerous times. My mom said no. She said that if I did not need them, God would not have put them there and if I removed them, where would the illness go?

Hahaha. I am pushing 50, have four siblings and we all have our tonsils.

“The doctor may look at the reimbursement system and say to himself, ‘You know what? I make a lot more money if I take this kid’s tonsils out.’”

The President of the United States has now insulted the Police Officers, the CEO's of major institutions, and the Doctors of this country. Will there ever be an end to these insults? Is there a profession, anywhere, that is safe from the ridicule of this man?

And what a stupid comment that is. What about the bureaucrat that is making this decision? What is his motivation going to be? His motivation will be... "What if we deny this treatment, we can save the program lots of money, and I'll get my BONUS if I save money this month."

So if I'm choosing whether to trust my Doctor or to trust some Washington bureaucrats to have the right motivation, I'm going to pick my Doctor, a man who at the very least must look me in the eye when he tells me what the options are, and who knows me personally and is professionally educated to know what he is doing.

My daughter had to have tubes in her ears, since she had chronic ear infections.
My 3 year old granddaughter had to have her adenoids out.
Both by the recommendations very competent ENT doctors.
I guess King Obama knows more than they do.
My personal physician is scared of what's to come.
We all should be.

It’s even worse. Obama is suggesting that the kid’s pediatrician at the clinic is in cahoots with the surgeon at the local hospital to perform unnecessary surgeries. He is plaining stating that the pediatrician is referring the kid to the surgeon to perform an unnecessary surgery and kick some of the money back to the pediatrician, i.e., that there are two unethical doctors who do not care about the patient’s well-being.

I have NEVER KNOWN a doctor or surgeon like that and doubt that many are that crooked.

For him to blanketly condemn the entire medical profession like that is reprehensible — but so like a commie.

A patient with chronic strep throat and inflamed tonsils would be a candidate for a tonsillectomy. Sometimes the microbes actually hide out in the tonsils.

The absurd part of Obama's accusation is the singling out of pediatricians - perhaps the most caring of all physicians.

Twenty years in Jeremiah Wrights Trinity United Church of Christ taught Zer0 well the tactics of political agitation.

We can add Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Louis Farrakhan, Saul Alinsky, Frank Marshall Davis, Raila Odinga, Khalid Abdullah Tariq al-Mansour and others with similar radical backgrounds. There were many in this nation who tried to warn others who Zer0 was and what he would do to this nation. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.

One figure who seems to have touched the whole spectrum of left wing agitators is Saul Alinsky. At the heart of the Alinsky method is the concept of “agitation”— making someone angry enough about the rotten state of his life that he agrees to take action to change it; or, as Alinsky himself described the job, to “rub raw the sores of discontent.” I guess sore throats come into that category.

You know..I have no idea what this MADMAN is talking about. Tonsillectomies are DISCOURAGED and unless the parent is just overly insistent, they do not get performed. (when I was a child it was almost mandatory...although for some unknown reason my mom & dad chose not to have it done....my brother got his removed along with adenoids (sp).
When my own son was little he kept suffering from severe ear infections and sore throats and I took him to the local doctor and told him, it's time for his tonsils and adenoids to be removed. With very little resistance, it was done within a couple of weeks. But now.......unless you are just totally adamant about it, Doctors will not offer it.

Fact of the matter is, doctors do surgeries such as tonsilectomies to protect against lawsuits later on in the child’s life.

A Pediatrician or OB-Gyn can be on the hook, in some cases, until the kid turns...not 18, but two years beyond.

Think John Edwards and all the medical lawsuits pursued in Mississippi.

“I’m 51 and I still have mine. My doctor told my mom the same thing way back when.” Same here. I'm also in my 50’s. I would constantly get strp throats. My parents would not allow them to remove them. Later it turned out you NEED them.

Sometimes they need to come out. I don't miss mine which were yanked when I was 4. I am now 67. I don't miss all the strep throat I used to get either. The point is though, the doctors are slower today in taking them out, most people who do have them removed today have it done when they are in their teens and some adults. Most of the time they don't need to come out.

You know, I have run across some arrogant doctors. I have seen doctors that were so stupid it made me wonder if they got their degrees out of a magazine. I have seen some that should not have been practicing because they made stupid, stupid decisions, and patients died because of it.

But I have never seen a doctor that made decisions in order to try and make more money. Maybe they exist out there. But I’ve never seen one. And I don’t thnk King O has either.

What about my infected appendix that was removed before it burst? Should it have been left in?

Just goes to show what happens when we put lawyers in charge. They only see doctors as the next malpractice case.
