G.I. Joe Director: This is Not a George Bush Movie
Federal Review ^ | 08/03/09

LOS ANGELES--The director of the new movie "G.I. Joe: the Rise of Cobra" thinks President Obama is "a Real American hero," but apparently wants Republicans to stay home.....

When it comes to selling "G.I. Joe" outside the U.S., the message is "this is not a George Bush movie -- it's an Obama world," director Stephen Sommers said. "Right from the writing stage we said to ourselves, this can't be about beefy guys on steroids who all met each other in the Vietnam War, but an elite organization that's made up of the best of the best from around the world."

Sommers, the director of such genre films as "the Mummy Returns" and "Van Helsing," is hoping that the film will appeal to international markets, where action films "often earn 60% or more of their ticket sales [but] rah-rah American sentiment doesn't play well,"....

As a result, overseas advertising is playing up scenes from other countries and downplaying anything that could be seen as American patriotism.

Well, remember that those things were usually aimed at kids, and a lot of people had no clue about the gay subtext of the Village People...hence the mainstream success.

Which means the bad guys are actually the good guys. Got it.

I’ve seen it, too. I’m not gay, but damn it, I still love disco.

Disco and freestyle are THE music for a TRUE party! Thank the ghost of Neil Bogart for WKTU on Sundays for keeping the music alive (it has become a rather boring Pop-40 station during the week.

Thank you mr. sommers for exposing your bias.

Now I know another movie to avoid this year.

I greatly appreciate the warning.

Freestyle, absolutely! The only reason I’d listen to KTU. Used to catch Judy Torres’ Freestyle Free for All whenever I was up by the City; reminds me of my yout’.

That girl on the right was the reason I was cheering for Cobra when I was a young teen ;)

Destro had all the luck.

And Sienna Miller as Baroness may be the only reason to watch this movie.

That’s a good one, too. I don’t know what it is, only Black artists can do disco justice. Whites simply... can’t. It’d be like them covering Motown. Just isn’t done.

Ironically, the president is played by Brit Jonathan Pryce.

What’s an ocean between friends? At least he is a pretty good actor which should count for something in a movie.

It’s the new America where anyone can be President!

There’s probably some kid born in China today, who will run for office 45 years from now.

Apparently it was going to be a “un based” rather than “real american hero” themed. However they apparently focus grouped it and when GI Joe was not an american organization, the movie was DOA.

Apparently ONE 40% market is still important in contrast to 60% scattered over a myriad of little markets.

besides the real money is in DVDs.

at least until it hits the internet 15 minutes after the first viewing...

The evil white guy infiltrator could also be an Israeli, who obviously dislikes the peaceful Muslim female. This would be a Secret clue that he is truly evil. Of course, the left will take delight in a cartoon that proves that all world evils are secretly caused by the jooos! </sarc>
