WHO IS JIM THOMPSON?
He is everyone, and no one in particular.
He is strong-jawed, but smiling. He is iron-willed, but willing to listen. He is tough as steel, but putty in the hands of his daughters.
Jim Thompson believes in God. He is disciplined, but not a Puritan. He is pious, but not a Pharisee. He goes to church on Sunday because he likes it. He tries to love his neighbor as himself, and often succeeds.
Jim's the boy for work. As an employee, he gives the job everything he's got. As an entrepreneur, he works twice as hard as everyone else on the team. As a boss, he stays late, is loathe to fire anyone, and pays his crew as much as he can afford rather than as little as he can legally get away with. Jim Thompson works hard for his money and doesn't have much use for sponges, leeches, or parasites.
Jim Thompson respects women. He does not tolerate those who disrespect them in his presence. He opens their doors, pulls out their chairs, and lights their smokes. He flirts scandalously with older ladies. He winks with exaggerated flamboyace at young ladies. He has been known to whistle at pretty girls on rare occasions, and he's a good dancer. He only has eyes for his wife.
Jim Thompson is a fightin' man. He doesn't back down from a bully -- he throws out his chest and yells "Bring it on!" He doesn't believe in killing as a rule, but when killing is required, he does it cleanly, dispassionately, with regret -- but he does it. Jim Thompson would rather die than harm a noncombatant or otherwise betray his honor. When the fight is won and the enemy has surrendered, Jim Thompson is the first to help his former foe back to his feet.
Jim Thompson loves animals, nature, and the natural environment, but he does not worship them. He has no patience with those who are needlessly cruel to animals, nor with those who despoil and rape the air, water, and soil. He protects and preserves the land and water he owns, and the creatures that inhabit it. Jim Thompson knows that "conservation" and "conservative" have the same root word.
Jim Thompson is well read, but he doesn't brag about it. He can read music and play an instrument, but doesn't make it a big deal. He appreciates art that uplifts the human spirit, and ignores that which doesn't. He is cultured and erudite, but he isn't afraid to eat ribs off the bone or tie himself to a bull.
Jim Thompson is a Conservative. He believes in Truth, Justice, and the American Way. He tolerates lawyers, politicians, and cops, but he does not trust them. He sees the natural human family, not the alienated individual, as the basic unit of society. He believes that everybody ought to own a little private property and use it to support himself and his loved ones.
Jim Thompson is a REAL MAN. And he is a REAL WOMAN, too, in a sense. Because Jim Thompson isn't one of us. He is ALL of us -- every member of FreeRepublic.com. Just as Uncle Sam is the personification of the U.S.A., Jim Thompson is the personification of Free Republic.
