Race Card Losing its Effectiveness (updated)
American Thinker ^ | September 16, 2009 | Clarice Feldman

In the past the race card was in fact a potent play for the left. I wonder if it hasn't been played so often that it's now thin enough for people to see through.

The latest Rasmussen poll suggests that is the case:

Twelve percent (12%) of voters nationwide believe that most opponents of President Obama's health care reform plan are racist. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 67% of voters disagree, and 21% are not sure.[snip] Eighty-eight percent (88%) of Republicans reject the notion that most of the opponents are racist. So do 78% of voters not affiliated with either major party. However, just 39% of Democrats share that view.

I expect that 12% are diehard Democrats who still think they elected the Messiah.

Update from Rosslyn Smith

With eighty-eight percent of Republicans and 78% of Independents rejecting the position that opposition to Obamacare is based on racial animosity, the left would do better to find another line of argument to promote their agenda. Claiming those in opposition are merely in denial over America's election of Barack Obama to the presidency seems to be a monumental loser. Of course, like many an emotional crutch, yelling racist at one's opponents can be a hard habit to break.

A mid the detail at Rasmussen comes this tidbit about the composition of that 12%. Among Obama's strongest supporters, those who Strongly Approve of his job performance, 35% say most opponents are racists, 32% disagree and 33% are not sure.

Among African-American voters, 27% say most opponents are racist, 25% disagree, and 48% are not sure.

That 48% is interesting. I was surprised at how high it was. It suggests that while many black voters are not completely trusting of whites, they are also very cautious about attributing racial motives to others.

What makes the 48% number particularly significant is that many elected blacks show no such caution in attributing opposition to their agenda to racism. Could a segment of black voters be feeling as alienated from the likes of Congressmen Charles Rangel, Jim Clyburn and Hank Johnson as many of those who attended the Tea Parties are with their own Congressmen and women? With unemployment running very high among urban blacks, especially young black men, the tolerance for all this posturing by black Congressman may be wearing thin.

Race Card Losing its Effectiveness (updated)

Not a good sign. Coercion is usually followed by force.

The NeoComs throw out the race card to kowtow people with shame. If 0’s opponents were really racist, the race card wouldn’t work.

Are there any photos of the 9/12 March showing how all the Blacks were at the rear of the march?

How about the “Blacks Only” zone set up for the speeches?

The cooler of bottled-water labeled, “Whites Only”?

And, of course, the anecdotes of how the back of all the 45,000 busses were forceably populated by Blacks?

The libs have beaten the race-baiting to death. The above shows it. Things are finally moving in the right direction (no pun intended) -— even the kool-aid drinking deaf-and-blind libs are finally catching on. I always figured it would take a radical fanatic like O to wake these dregs up.

When I was in grad school we had a debate that centered on racial quotas in college admittance and I said that I thought that they should be abolished. I said that I thought student applications shouldn't have any reference to race on them and be evaluated solely on their accomplishments. I was called a racist by several class members.

Dang! I was going to apply for one of those! They’ve got some really great incentives like frequent bitching miles, perpetual victim status and it’s accepted in most places no one wants to be anyway.

Not a good sign - get it over with. Aka bring it on.

I will take full on conflict over living under tyranny. Sadly many sheep prefer to be slaves and watch their ball games on TV.

watch their ball games on TV.

I prefer to listen to games on the radio.

I was never big on TV. Or slavery.

The libs/Dems have played it nearly every day for the last 6 months.

Of course, it is overused.

And it has lost its former impact.

But they will continue to use it, because it does still work some, especially with politicians and media personalities.

[I heard a comment on a local radio this morning. They didn’t go into detail, but they said that ‘racist/racism’ is being raised in the Kanya West-Taylor Swift incident.]

Not a good sign. Coercion is usually followed by force.

That is why breaking up ACORN and SEIU at the start is imperative for a peaceful resolution of the Obama mess. Obama cannot resort to force if he has no forces. The military's long traditions will make it very hard for them to take sides in politics, and virtually impossible to attack Americans who are only protesting. Obama needed organized shock troops, who where loyal to him, not the constitution, to break up the conservatives. ACORN, SEIU and AFL-CIO were to provide these stormtroopers. But now ACORN is being hammered, the SEIU is looking like crooks and thugs and AFL-CIO has always had questionable ethics. Trying to arm these groups now, as part of his Civilian Defense Force equal in strength to the US army, would almost certainly set off a Civil War.

An armed mob is not an army. In order to use force Obama needs a group that (1) is loyal to him alone, (2) has an existing command and control structure, (3) can be armed, organized and transported without causing the exact sort of disruption he is trying to put down. ACORN was his best bet, but thanks to Glen Beck and those brave enough to show them for what they are, arming ACORN would no longer be possible without a fuss.
