HOUSTON - Michael Garza's parents say they weren't sure who to believe, their 8-year-old son or his reading teacher Savonya Depland Haston.

After Michael calls the reading teacher "ma'am," Haston is heard on the tape replying "I'm not your ma'am. If I owned you, and you were my slave, I would beat you down."

On the tape, you hear her tell the class of 7 and 8-year-olds she could have charges filed against them and their parents for lying and violating her civil rights.
"When you lie on me, I have the right to an attorney, I have the right to file charges against you and your parents. I have the right to take you straight up to the top of the Grand Jury and the federal government and file charges against your parents and garnish whatever wages are in your houses; that's the law," the reading teacher is heard on the tape telling the classroom of second graders.
So what did the Houston Independent School District decide to do about Mrs.Haston?
She is an idiot and a racist. It looks like she has been around a while too!
Been there, received that too. Except it was St. Louis. I was abused (bullied) by a teacher in Houston too, but she was white.
I have said it for a while now, and I still say it.
We should shut our public education system down, fire everyone that ever had a hand it it, and hire new teachers and staff. Those who ever worked in the education system prior to the reboot, would be forever barred from participation again.
Sound harsh right? Every teacher that is associated with the education system today, participates in a quiet support for what is taking place. They value their jobs more than the sound education of our children. Well, that disqualifies them from working in the field as far as I am concerned.
Reopen the schools with a new curriculum that closely resembles that of the 1950s.
Get on with educating our children.
Put a sign out front, “Socialists will be shot on sight.”
She needs to be more than fired. That’s one nutty broad.
One of my sons had a teacher divide the class into animal killers, Anyone who hunted or their parents hunted, and animal right protectors.
It lasted a day and that teacher doesn't teach anymore.
You know what, the abuse I received in the second grade in HISD helped turn me into a high-strung, anxious kid. Seriously. Reading this is bringing back a lot of VERY painful, sickening memories. And it just happened to be Houston, and it just happened to be second grade.
What’s this business these days of finding the term “Ma’am” to be offensive? First Barbara Boxer and now this mess. What in the hell are you SUPPOSED to call a woman of higher caste than you if not Ma’am?

You need to deveope a post on this. Need statistics etc to support the case. Or ask for posters with such parents or grandparents to post their findings.
This was just a polite Southern boy (of Hispanic descent, btw) addressing an adult woman appropriately.
She’s obviously a nutcase, but she has has built her entire career on her suntan. She’s a very light-skinned black woman, although she has a heavy black accent which she has probably carefully cultivated. Remind you of anybody else we know?
