Obama put Obama on the spot, not the military. Obama has had almost 10 months to decide the strategy after 4 years of claiming Bush's was wrong and yet all he has decided thus far is to strip the troops of any defense.

Maaann, them shore be some skinny shoulders too! According to what I have seen published he is nearly my height and weighs about the same as I weighed at my high school graduation. I was called a stringbean in boot camp and even when I was 21 I was told I had a bad case of the “goneass”. He doesn’t look that skinny in the pictures shown of him at a young age and sometimes the face looks different to me and I mean in ways other than just the changes that twenty or thirty years bring. Is this guy in the white house the same one in the pictures from way back when? I am just a tiny bit unsure myself.

Commentators on the left say the military ought to keep its advice private without trying to influence public debate, with New York Times columnist Frank Rich accusing the generals of an attempt to "try to lock him (Obama) in" on Afghanistan.

Gee. I wonder if these commentators on the left would have had this much concern about the military keeping its advice private if President Bush were still at the helm????

IIRC he abused Bush over Iraq but repeatedly supported a full court press in Afghanistan. It was an classic political straddle for a man who never managed more than a political campaign. For the first time in his life the buck stops w/him; anger his base or provide more fodder for pubbies to stomp rat congressmen next year.

Oh I remember. Afghanistan was the “good war” and Iraq was “taking the eye off the ball” but now that Iraq is on the road to victory and Afghanistan is the war now, Obama is clueless.
