There is some weird justification and denial going on in her mind to this day obviously. This wasn’t about ‘suicide’. If he had just offed himself, the world would have been better off. No, this is about mass murder.

It’s like if Ted Bundy’s parents were going on about how he had low self esteem or something. It’s retarded. She’s basically still thinking that in some way, he was a victim.

Dylan entered the school with the intention of dying there

No, Dylan entered the school with the intention of making other people die there!

What happened to Dylan is directly related to the lack of communication he had with his parents, IMO.

What happened to the old fashion idea that parents get up and make breakfast for their kids....

..go over homework, tests....check on after school activities.

That's what I did...

...This woman lost touch with her child a long time ago.

I’m not that familiar with the Columbine thing but isn’t this the kid who had a bunch of assault rifles in his room, was on the internet with a bunch of other bum kids and they all wore black trenchcoats?

Terrible tragedy.

The hero cops sat hiding, cowering actually, behind squad cars, lightposts and trees while people bled to death. Two high school kids, without military training, kept a thousand cops at bay.

Call 911 and die.

Arm yourself. Learn how to protect your family.

(No disrespect to Texas Rangers, Wyatt Earp, Sheriffs and cops who protected civilians.)

I guess i’m not going to judge her.

All I can think is “how would i feel if it were my son?”

Of course i don’t think my son would ever do anything like that but if he had I would feel despair over what he had done but I would also despair over the loss of my son. killer or not.

As I’ve read the replies, I’ve though to myself that I haven’t read the whole article so I cannot really judge all of Mrs. Klebold’s thoughts and comments on her son’s actions at Columbine. I don’t know all that she had to say. Unless I buy a copy of Oprah’s magazine, which I never do, I do not feel that I am in a position to judge.

But when I go to sleep tonight I will thank God for my two beautiful children and the very close relationship that I have with them. I’m blessed to be a stay at home mother. And I’m thankful that I have that opportunity.

I urge freepers to read the book Columbine that came out a few months ago. I think you will be sympathetic towards Dylan Klebold’s parents. They are horrified by the suffering their son inflicted on so many people and sent long, personal letters saying so to the families of the victims. Regarding the hair appointment story, as I recall reading about it in the book, Susan Klebold either had an appointment and didn't show or showed up in a state of dazed shock because she couldn't stay at her house and didn't know where to go.

I am usually very tough on parents of thugs and sadists, but I think there were actual satanic forces involved in the Columbine murders. Again, I urge everyone to read the book — it is superbly written — before judging the Klebolds. (Incidentally, Eric Harris’s parents were much less willing to work with the police than the Klebolds were.)

There are thousands, probably hundreds of thousands of moms in the US like this. She is trying to cope. She will be tormented for the rest of her days. Sad beyond words.

“Dylan changed everything I believed about myself, about God, about family, and about love.””

There’s an indication right there. NOTHING anyone could do would change anything I believe at this moment in the matters of God, family and love (what ever that last one means).

raise suicide awareness

What a con job.

She still refuses to see the truth of what her son was and what he did.

She is trying to make him a "victim." Why doesn't she say that Hitler shooting himself in the bunker should all make us ponder "suicide awareness?"

They only shot themselves when cornered by police (who took their damn sweet time because they were afraid themselves).

She should have stayed silent.

Moreover, these two were probably demon possessed.

And YES - these two DID target Christians, despite the crap the FBI said later.

Meanwhile, Harris went over to another table where two girls were hiding, bent down to look at them, and dismissed them as pathetic. The pair went over to an empty table and began to reload their weapons. Schnurr, who had been hurt badly, began to cry out at that point, "Oh, God help me!" Klebold went back to her and asked her if she believed in God.

Ah, so it’s about “inner turmoil”, “personal battles” and “suicide” now? This kid wanted to kill, the Mother needs to own up to it and we all need to figure out how she created him with society’s help.
