Tough Road Ahead for Dems After Vote Passes
National Review ^ | 11-08-09 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 11/07/2009 9:18:01 PM PST by truthandlife

Listening to the debate on the floor today, it was clear that Democrats considered it a moral and ideological obligation to pass this bill—consequences be damned. The leadership is congratulating itself now—Pelosi is already the greatest speaker of all time apparently—but there's a tough rough ahead in the Senate. Pelosi could lose 39 votes. Reid can't lose any. Passage in the House definitely creates more pressure on Reid to get it done, but the slender margin—despite the size of the Democratic majority in the House and all the arm-twisting and deal-making (what did Cao get?)—has to make Senate moderates even more nervous. There's a long string yet to be played out here, and it's still likely to stretch into next year, by which time Pelosi’s historic accomplishment of Nov. 7 may look foolish.

I feel sick. All of us veterans swore an oath to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. Pelosi is a domestic enemy. We would be arrested for trying to place her under citizen’s arrest if we saw her. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their graves right now. Where is the constitutional authority for this bill? God help us!

“Let America experience what it voted for”

Absolutely. When medications are not available, except for a limited amount of generics; when the elderly are told they’re going to be denied medical care because they’re no longer economically viable; when the quality of health care you receive will be based on your political ties; and when the best doctors flee to nations with freer environs, thus exacerbating a degradation of care availability... THEN the message will come through loud and clear.

But of course, the euphoria over getting “free” health care will need to wear off first.

NAnZI Pelosi (as a FReeper coined earlier) will NOT be the majority leader in 2010 if we stick to our guns and oust the dems from control of congress. I am clinging to that tonight.

While we have to vote the Democrats out... the greater problem we face is that so few Republicans are actually against all the socialism we already have. Yeah... they’re (the GOP) against any news bills to add more socialism... but when was the last time Republicans came to together to forcefully call for the abolition of all the socialism we already have... all the socialism created over the last century? Until the Republicans redefine themselves as the party of repealing socialism rather than the party of stemming the expansion of socialism we’re never going to save America because even when we “win” all we do with our majority is temporarily maintain the crappy and untenable status quo.

When our own political system breaks down into violent war, its all lost. Civil war is anti-democratic. I can’t picture myself preparing for war against americans for political reasons. I would feel like I am contributing to the problem.

CA-36 Harman, Jane [D]
CA-47 Sanchez, Loretta [D]

To think these two were ever “blue dogs” is laughable.

@ Post #3 - Look what happened to Cap and Trade though. I don't think Obamacare is going to pass the Senate, the votes aren't there.

Of course it'll pass the House because by tradition the House is the faster of the two deliberative bodies.

I’m a little confused. Will it need 60 votes in the Senate or merely a simple majority of 51?

The communists party will change the rules. It will pass with 50 and Biden.

“Listening to the debate on the floor today, it was clear that Democrats considered it a moral and ideological obligation to pass this bill—consequences be damned.”

The consequences need to be extremely painful. The government is out of control, passing this against the will of the majority of citizens as well as perpetrating an unconstitutional act has rendered them illegitimate. We should show them the respect they deserve which is none. Don't sign up, don't pay the fines, and get ready to rumble if it comes to it.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. My stomach just completely twisted when I saw the number reach 218.

Once this is passed into law, there will be no undoing it.

We are about to live in a new Amerika, and I don’t want to be a part of it.

Yep..either way, it matters not to me anymore. These collectivist, unconstitutional, godless, immoral, self important human stains need to go.

Pelosi is already the greatest speaker of all time apparently—but there's a tough rough ahead in the Senate...For sure - there was lots of excitement after the House passed the cap and tax bill last spring, but it was never heard from again once it got to the Senate - with Lieberman already saying he'll never vote for Healthcare Deform, I think the same fate awaits Nancy's Folly.......

You can’t veto anything after you’ve been impeached

##########

This makes my mouth water! I would love to make that a stipulation for voting in the new seats in 2010 - that those who get voted in MUST begin impeachment proceedings immediately!

...wishful thinking?

Who cares if it’s passed into law. Just refuse it. Don’t pay the fines, and kick their ass if they show up at your house. There’s 535 of them and two POS in the white house, there are millions of us.
