Tough Road Ahead for Dems After Vote Passes
National Review ^ | 11-08-09 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 11/07/2009 9:18:01 PM PST by truthandlife

Listening to the debate on the floor today, it was clear that Democrats considered it a moral and ideological obligation to pass this bill—consequences be damned. The leadership is congratulating itself now—Pelosi is already the greatest speaker of all time apparently—but there's a tough rough ahead in the Senate. Pelosi could lose 39 votes. Reid can't lose any. Passage in the House definitely creates more pressure on Reid to get it done, but the slender margin—despite the size of the Democratic majority in the House and all the arm-twisting and deal-making (what did Cao get?)—has to make Senate moderates even more nervous. There's a long string yet to be played out here, and it's still likely to stretch into next year, by which time Pelosi’s historic accomplishment of Nov. 7 may look foolish.

the only REAL question remaining is, how hard is this going to be to repeal in 2012...

We never repealed Social Security or Medicare; if Obamacare passes, it, like every other major entitlement, will only expand.

In my life, I have watched thousands of movies. I am quite the movie buff and can instantly recall the most minute details of movies I have seen. My own DVD collection numbers about 1700 movies. In all those movies, full of classic and not so classic moments, no single moment warms my heart like when the whole of Congress is set aflame by invaders in the otherwise less than memorable, Mars Attacks. There is never a death ray wielding Martian around when you need one.

When our own political system breaks down into violent war, its all lost. Civil war is anti-democratic.

Where do I start? We're not a democracy, we're a representative republic.

We survived a civil war 150 years ago, and were better for it.

The military is probably the best equipped to protect the Constitution. Then we can sort all this out.

Honestly, do you want to live like a Canadian (I did, for seven years) or worse, a European, when it comes to the health of your family? My son is 12. I'll fight physically to let him have at least half the life I've had. I was born in 1963. The '70s were very good to me, but my kid is facing a world of hurt. I'll do whatever it takes to prevent him from living under this kind of government control.

“The current Congress reminds me of a Power Puff Girls villain, “cockroach man” — a huge creature really composed of many tiny cockroaches. Each member who voted for this bill is a cockroach. Defeat them individually, then sanitize their breeding grounds — the schools — to prevent a reinfestation.”

The productive members of society need to go on strike and start demanding free shit. Free homes, free cars, free cable, whatever. Let’s act just like them and see how they pay for it all.

While we have to vote the Democrats out... the greater problem we face is that so few Republicans are actually against all the socialism we already have.

You can beat up the folks we have on our side or fight the ones we must defeat.

We can afford to be shut of a few really bad eggs but the vast majority of the Republicans in Congress have hung tough over and over and over again since the beginning of the year.

And, frankly, despite the loss in NY23, I really feel that the Republicans were buoyed by the ferocity and power of the Hoffman campaign. And that in spite of the fact that Hoffman was stiff as a board and looked like a doe in the head lights when it came to being on camera. A real Republican would have won this handily.

The fact is that Conservatives are going to have to raise hundreds of millions of dollars or more and target this for maximum effect. We have to convert backslapping Tea parties into sign planting, electioneering juggernauts that make even Nancy Pelosi's home district not be a safe bet.

And Senators like Dodd, and Reid should feel that running is a march into futility.

Even more so, we have to learn how to split the Democrat base. A loss of 10% of their current support from any segment will finish them.

The poor are going to suffer the most from all that Obama is doing. They think he cares about them, but ask the folks in Chicago who lived in the tenements he said he was going to fix, or the folks who Michelle sent packing to another hospital. Like the aliens in "V", this guy promises the moon but it turns out, the moon isn't a good place to live even for one second.

Impeach him?

That takes more votes than a simple veto override.

“I feel sick. All of us veterans swore an oath to defend the Constitution against enemies foreign and DOMESTIC. Pelosi is a domestic enemy.”

Indeed, but all rats along with Rinos, illegals demanding free bennies etc need to be included in the domestic enemy category. Pelosi isn’t the only one, she’s just the blood sucking vampire queen of the parasite class.

Hope you’re right.

But this wasn’t supposed to pass the House...and it did.

A conservative was leading in NY 23 in most polls before the election...he lost.

And there are many other examples of “it won’t happen” happening.

Numbers matter. That’s the country we live in. Majority rules.

After the next census, we won’t have a prayer.

Old folks better wake up. This bill is a repeal of both Social Security and Medicare.

If you don't understand ask Rahm Emanuele's brother.

You aren't going to live long enough to collect it.
