Tiahrt to Mayors: Stop Politicizing Fort Hood Deaths
U.S. House of Representatives ^ | November 24, 2009 | NA

Posted on 11/25/2009 10:00:36 AM PST by neverdem

WASHINGTON—U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt (pronounced TEE-hart), R-Kan., released the following statement in response to heinous accusations from Mayor Bloomberg’s political organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns. On Monday the Bloomberg organization paid for a full-page advertisement in the Washington Post assigning blame for the Fort Hood massacre, in part, to firearm policy authored by Tiahrt and approved by Congress since 2002.

“The mayors who politicized the tragic deaths of those whose lives were taken along with the dozens who sustained injuries at Fort Hood should immediately issue a public apology to the victims and their families,” said Tiahrt. “Their use of soldiers’ deaths, their smear campaign against me, and their attempt to deceitfully change public policy disgraces their reputations as public servants. Using the Fort Hood massacre to advance a devious ad campaign dishonors the freedoms our men and women in uniform have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect. Americans everywhere should be outraged and demand that each of these mayors be held accountable.

“The Tiahrt trace data amendment prevents the release of confidential law enforcement data to the public while making certain it is provided to local, state and federal law enforcement officials for use in criminal investigations. That’s why the Fraternal Order of Police, the world’s largest organization of sworn law enforcement officers, supports the Tiahrt trace data amendment.

“Contrary to what Mayors Against Illegal Guns have asserted, the Tiahrt amendment does not affect background check outcomes, does not affect who is permitted to own a firearm, and does not restrict law enforcement officials from accessing and effectively using all available firearm data for criminal investigations. Allowing the federal government to maintain a firearm registry of law-abiding American citizens who have passed a background test will do nothing to prevent terrorist attacks. Retaining a federal registry for 45 days or even 45 years will not make us any safer but will expose which citizens own guns and how many they own – something every violent criminal would like to access.

“Unfortunately, many opponents of the Tiahrt language, including Mayor Bloomberg, appear to be more interested in lawsuits against firearm manufacturers than about protecting law enforcement officers, the public, and privacy rights of law-abiding citizens who own firearms.”

Bloomberg is a PIG.
When he kicks the bucket, that bucket should be filled with PIG grease.

Mayor Bloomberg: What part of Nidal Hasan's alleged cry of "Allahu akbar!" did you not understand?

Geez, according to the National Socialist Democrats and their propaganda lapdogs the SCM, Hasan the psychotic Jihadist was in fine fettle to buy a gun.

What was there to stop him if he was A-okay?

Wouldn't he just have used another method in his lust for Jihad?

It's not like they've used explosives in suicide attacks, or SUV’s or Aircraft or ..

November 23 - The coalition is expanding its efforts to close the Terror Gap in federal law, which leaves the FBI powerless to block gun sales to terror suspects. In an ad in today's Washington Post and on the companion web site www.CloseTheTerrorGap.org, the coalition calls on Congress to learn from the tragedy at Fort Hood and close the Terror Gap once and for all.

Here's MAIG's link to the WaPo ad.

Can anyone transform this pdf ad into a jpg image or facsimile?

CLOSE THE TERROR GAP in the background check system. In 2007, the Bush Administration asked Congress to give the FBI the power to block gun and explosives sales to terror suspects.

Un leetle problemo, the sonofabitch Hasan was not on any Terror watch list. He was not a "terror suspect".As far as any official knew, he was, and is, a US Citizen and Major in the United States Army. He was also an Islamic extremist jihadii.

But, that said, since when do we deny Constitutional rights on the basis of someone being a "suspect"? Especially a "secret" suspect, on some list that individuals cannot even know they are on, and have no recourse to be removed in the case of mistaken identity or other errors.

When they form a “mayors against terrorist muslims” I will listen to them. This is just hysterics. The Nidal bought the guns legally from a regular gun store no loophole involved. If a major in the US army is not entitled to buy a gun, who is?

The problem with Nidal is his ROP murdering creed. He would have done the same deadly deed with a shovel or an airplane if he had the chance.

The RNC should sue Bloomburg and force him to remove the R from behind his name.

A Democrat’s FIRST inclination for every “crisis” is to pass more laws restricting the freedom of the law-abiding.

EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL.

(And yes, I know Bloomberg has an (R) behind his name now, but he is a lifelong Democrat who switched just before the last election, proving a.) that Democrats never change, and b.) that there isn’t a nickles worth of difference between the parties.)

Best suggestion I've seen in a while. This mayor ain't no 'R', that's for sure.

That was then........pretty soon, all of that's gonna change. Those Reps who can't claim solid conservative credentials will be shown the door in '010.

That cartoon pretty much sums up the problem with denying Constitutional rights to people on a government watch list. The government can put you on a "watch list" any time they want, for any reason they want. They don't have to inform you. You have no right to a trial and no way to refute or appeal it or be removed.

The real reason behind Hasan's success was that the Army and the FBI didn't do their jobs. The Army should have prosecuted Hasan for his anti-US statements under the UCMJ. The federal conviction would have gotten him out of the military and prevented him from purchasing firearms legally.

By the way - had the other military members in the Readiness Center been armed, Hasan would probably have not even tried to murder his fellow soldiers. If he had, he might have gotten one or two before being turned into swiss cheese.

Apparently, none of it. After all, he's all for the NYC show trial.

Hasan's attempt to correspond with Al Queda would have been enough to get him a conviction under Article 104 or the UCMJ.

§ 904. Art. 104. Aiding the enemy

Any person who— (1) aids, or attempts to aid, the enemy with arms, ammunition, supplies, money, or other things; or (2) without proper authority, knowingly harbors or protects or gives intelligence to, or communicates or corresponds with or holds any intercourse with the enemy, either directly or indirectly; shall suffer death or such other punishment as a court-martial or military commission may direct.

You could also make a good case for a violation of Article 106, Espionage.
