The British university at the heart of a scandal over climate-change research announced a wide-ranging probe into allegations that its scientists manipulated data about global warming.
The independent review is part of efforts by the University of East Anglia to damp the furor over thousands of hacked private emails involving its researchers, which suggested efforts to squelch the views of climate-change skeptics.
The scandal blew up just days before world leaders are set to meet in Copenhagen for a United Nations-sponsored summit aimed at boosting international efforts to curb greenhouse-gas emissions and slow global warming.
Climate-change skeptics have seized on the emails, saying they prove that the case for man-made global warming wasn't as definitive as generally claimed.
The scientist in the eye of the storm, Phil Jones, said Tuesday he was stepping aside as the director of the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit pending the outcome of the investigation. CRU maintains one of the world's most important data sets on how global temperatures have changed.
In an interview, UEA's vice chancellor said Dr. Jones would take a lower profile in the aftermath of the scandal. "He'll continue his scientific work, though how much of it will be at UEA remains to be seen," Edward Acton said. He added that the university isn't "hounding him out."
Prof. Acton, however, also said Dr. Jones "may have to take a rest." He didn't elaborate.

Having the University investigate this is like having the wolf investigating the hens’ slaughter. The University has a HUGE conflict of interest as they get a ton of government grants to conduct research. The fact that this Jones hack will still be conducting “research” is an outrage.
If the publication of these emails doesn’t change anything, why is Phil Jones resigning? Why is Mann next for the chop?
For god's sake why do these limp-wristed journalists keep dancing around the obvious?!
If you actually READ these emails, they don't suggest that "global warming wasn't as definitive as generally claimed." They PROVE that man-made global warming ISN'T happening at all, and that a cabal of grant whores and Leftist idealogues are LYING through their teeth to "prove" otherwise.
I swear, I hate these apologists almost as much as I despise the actual perpetrators of this fraud.
These people need to be legally judged and forfeit what they chose to willingly and collusively diminish for untold millions on this planet. There is no punishment severe enough as far as I am concerned.

The next shoe to fall will be NASA. According to Christopher Monckton (page 17 of his brilliant blow-by-blow expose) NASA calibrated its orbital temp readings using the CRU's discredited garbage data.
Christopher Horner has a Freedom of Information request for this data. When he gets the data, watch for the you-know-what to hit the fan.
It is extremely difficult to explain logical mathematical programmatic expressions which 'include' values that agree with the hypothesis and null-out those which do not.

As for Christopher Monckton, I wish I could link you to his expose but I don't know how. Here's one way to find it, though. Google "monckton" and "caught green-handed." That should bring you to his very lengthy expose, which details how NASA acquired its calibration technique. (Page 17 of the expose)
