A 31-year-old man said he intended to fire only a warning shot when he accidentally killed a woman whod been part of a group who robbed him Tuesday night on the South Side.
Im trying to fire a warning shot like stay the hell back, the man said in an interview Wednesday. He did not want his name printed.
Police say the mans story appears to check out.
The dead woman was identified as Barbara McComb, 21, of the 4200 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiners office. She was pronounced dead early Wednesday at Stroger Hospital.
The man said he was robbed at gunpoint about 11 p.m. while he was walking to a corner store near 47th and South Prairie. He said he was then forced into a sedan with the gunman and four others, all of whom appeared to be in their teens.

No matter, she will still cast a vote for Obama in 2012.
True...True...
agreed, as a ChiTown FR want to add some background. Take the worst area of any city you live in and mutiply it by 5. Thats 47/State, 47/Michigan, 47/Prarie. This is Dorothy Tillman's former ward.
On 47/State a line of dangerous housing developments called the Robert Taylor were tore down the last 6 years and the residents scattered.
This guy was lucky, much worse could've happed walking around near midnight wearing a suit in that neighborhood.
One less thug breeding Ho.
I’ve read a few books by former FBI agents. THe only common thread is regardless of if they are concealing their identites or not, if you end up being transported from one place to another, 99.9% you end up dead.
This is fairly close to wear the gang of thugs wacked the kid with a two by four. And then proceeded to kill him.
Just stay outta the red (and brown)!
Every city needs a map like this (called the "Where not to get lost if you're white" map).
Actually, claiming that it was a "warning shot" could get you into a heap o' trouble. In essence, you are telling the nice officers that you discharged your firearm (i.e. used deadly force) before you felt you were in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm. In other words, if you had time to consider and then execute a "warning shot", then you had the time and the opportunity to do something else; like run or call 911. What you want to do is tell investigators that you shot with the intent to kill your attacker because you were in fear for your life and the use of deadly force was your only option.
(YMMV)
I wonder who she’s going to vote for in the 2010 primary.
Obama voters robbing Obama voters. Obama voters shooting Obama voters.
...which is why the county should be sued for not providing free body armor for miscreants..(/s, as if!)
In a practical sense, that’s true. However, if you claim that it was a “warning shot”, then you are telling the cops that in fact they weren’t close enough to be a threat. An anti-gun prosecutor would have no problem claiming that your recklessness lead to the “victim’s” death.
If you shoot at someone in self defense, you always tell the cops that you were shooting to kill because you were in fear for your own life. You never fire a “warning shot”. You never shoot to wound. “Honestly officer, it was him or me. I tried my best to kill him.”
Well, it was more of a joke, but a warning shot could be fired when you felt you were in imminent danger, but you attempted to make it non-leathal.
warning shot when he accidentally killed “
That is a warning shot! To others.
“She was just getting her life turned around”. “She was starting back to school Monday.”
I’d say that was a very effictive warning shot.
