Tim Tebow meets his worst career fears in Senior Bowl debut (Saw it coming)
Yahoo News ^ | 01/26/10 | Matt Hinton

On top of the technical issues NFL scouts have with Tim Tebow as a prospective pro quarterback, there's also the standard next-level complaint about "the system" -- specifically, among other things, that Tebow spent the entirety of his college career at Florida taking snaps from the shotgun, never from under center, even in short-yardage situations. That seemingly minor qualm opens up an entirely new avenue of doubts about his ability to adjust to basic mechanics like footwork and turning his back to the defense, fundamentals most quarterbacks have converted to second nature long before they show up for NFL auditions (or, in most cases, before they ever set foot in an actual college game).

Lets see, he’s a heisman winner, winner of two national championships, holds many SEC records as do his team mates of the last 4 years.

I don't know about ratings, but there are a lot of similarities between Tebow and McCoy. Both are strong Christians. Both have been highly successful in college, and there are questions about both as pro prospects. With Tebow, it's mechanics and the offense he runs. With McCoy, there are concerns that he may have already filled his full potential. McCoy is already an overachiever in terms of the amount of production he gets from the potential of his genetic makeup. Both will end up getting a look from a pro team, but neither is currently seen as being a must have quarterback.

Both will be well positioned to work themselves into a starting NFL job. They'll get the chance, it depends on what they do with it.

I disagree. Most in the media fall all over themselves when talking about Tebow. The backlash is against the media love affair with him. Here is a bit about Tom Brenneman’s over-the-top praise for Tebow in the 2009 BCS Championship game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQ5SVMK3mOM

Tebow’s ability to excell as a pro quarterback has been routinely discussed this year. I’m not saying Tebow isn’t a good person or a good role model. I’m only saying he is, for the most part, loved by the media.

Is Colt McCoy rated higher, in your opinion? I’m really not that knowledgeable about football, esp. NFL.

Yes, and in most scouts' opinion. Bradford is rated higher than McCoy.

I suspect that Tim Tebow is the last person concerned whether he ultimately succeeds in the NFL. He is the type of person to give it his all and make the effort to accomplish what is most difficult. When he walks away from the league, it is assured the Lord will gave another job lined up for him.

Wouldn't be surprised that the NFL did everything they could to ensure that Tebow is a bust. The NFL has become anti-Christian and anti-American in its quest to appeal to liberal women and homosexuals. From refusing to let Rush Limbaugh own an NFL team to all the questionable calls giving the New Orleans Saints the NFC championship (New Orleans is a known center for Homosexual activism), it's easy to see that Roger Goodell is trying to appease the NFLPA leader DeMaurice Smith, a known Obama crony.

Wouldn't be surprised if the military color guard has pig's blood thown on them by NFL officials, and the air force flyover is shot at by NFL security.

Add in the shovel pass, the screen, and the quick draw, why not give your offense’s commander a few extra seconds in the pocket?

When ONE player holds as many SEC and NCAA records as Tebow...when ONE player affects so many games with his leadership and play, it is NOT “over the top” to see media praise..

It IS remarkable that he was the first sophmore Heisman winner...He has been a major force in colleg football on top of the fact that he is a solid citizen and an exemplary athelte.

Perhaps the media has been a little generous, but for once they are praising someone who hasn’t been arrested, suspended, or is one big tattoo from head to foot.

Just because one has a great college career does not mean he will excel in the NFL.

Take the example of Chris Weinke - he’s a Heisman winner, winner of one national championship, played in 3 national championship games, finished his Florida State career with a 32–3 record and held numerous FSU records including most passing yards in a career and most career touchdown passes.

Take a look at Heisman winners that played QB in the past 10 years - Troy Smith, Matt Leinart, Jason White, Carson Palmer, Eric Crouch, and Chris Weinke.

Not a terribly strong track record there.

“Tebow is not a top tier pro prospect, this has been known for some time and discussed throughout the year. His mechanics and accuracy are big questions.”
**********

Agreed. I’m a Cane so I have anti-Gator bias, but more importantly, I am a conservative and like watching him do well.

There are dozens of college QBs who excell in college but not at the next level. In fact, it occurs at every position, and often involves some big name players.

Many who excell in H.S. arent good enough for the next level, either.

Ken Dorsey was an EXCELLENT college QB who didnt make it at the next level, although I think he could be a fine assistant coach someday.

This is simple. The Jaguars have suffered at the gate, with all but one home game blacked out. Tim Tebow is a local hero.

The Jags will draft him in the 1st round to fill the stadium and then they can figure out where and when to play him

IMHO opinion he will do well at QB with the right coaching...and Mark Brunell,a former left-handed running Jaguars QB could fill that bill, after all he's 40 and his playing career ends after the Saints play the Super Bowl.

That's my take and I'm sticking with it.

“Take a look at Heisman winners that played QB in the past 10 years ‘

There are more examples of players who excelled in college who went on to excel in the NFL. There are no guarantees but this hatchet job on a good person and a good athlete are silly.

No it doesn’t — this was said last year and the year before that. He doesn’t have the fundamentals required of a quarterback in the NFL under the FL system. They never did anything to prepare him for the next level.

If you think a team wouldn’t draft him because of his comments, you are off base. If he was a good quarterback that will fit the pro system, there are a number of teams including the Denver Broncos whose owner is conservative that would draft him high.

Not everything is about politics — NFL is about MONEY!

“might be cynical but maybe, just maybe, this has more to do with his political stance than anything else...I don’t know you be the judge”

As a 7 yr high school coach I have to agree with you. How many other QBs with this kind of potential have gotten this much negative hype.

When Vick and V Young came into the league, all you heard was how they would revolutionize the game of football.

Yeah Tebow has to learn some basic fundamentals...taking a snap, handing the football off better....wow, that’s a real challenge. /sarc off

Give me a break, they are on this guy because he is a Christian.

Note: I’m not sure he will be a great NFL QB, he has to prove over the next 2-3 years he can do NFL type things like read defenses, which at the pro level are quite complicated.

But he has a legitimate shot. Some very good organization will steal him in the draft with all of this negative hype. I’ll be rooting for him.

I was completely prepared to see Tim Tebow drafted as a TE or a “wildcat” QB. Now that I’ve seen the injuries sustained by Sam Bradford & Colt McCoy I’m re-evaluating. Tebow’s size is starting to look like his best asset — if they can ever teach him to avoid the hit that is...

Tony Dungy, Jim Kelly, and a few others have said Tebow is worthy of a 1st round selection. I’ll take the word of those who actually participated in the NFL over those who observe it from a desk and TV.

Easy for them to say when they won't be the ones shelling out first round money for a guy with questionable mechanics
